Dead Air and Death Toll Impressions

Original post with background: "I played Left 4 Dead today." by community member Dead Fish

Again, here are SPOILERS about the two campaigns Dead Air and Death Toll! Don't read if you want to look forward to a surprise on Nov, 18th!

Pictures first. Those are all of Dead Air. Unfortunately, I didn't get the chance to take any of Death Toll, while playing, sorry. Also, please excuse the bad quality. It was all I managed to get.

This is the entrance hall of the Metro International Airport.

Left 4 Dead Dead Air

Those two are of the finale on the runway with crashed planes all over the place.

This is the bird's view you get, when dieing during the finale of Dead Air.

Left 4 Dead Dead Air

Dead Air starts like Chet described it.

"In Dead Air, your team takes flight across the rooftops facing different challenges on your journey to safety."

It is much brighter than the other campaigns and plays during sunset. You almost don't need the flashlight outside.

Beginning with the third map, you come across the Metro International Airport. There is a plane crashed in front of it. Because all the front doors are locked, you enter through a short underground passage, I think. Once inside you make your way past baggage reclaims, airport security, large waiting halls and Duty Free shops. There is a crescendo event where you have to loosen a van's handbrake to let it crash through a closed gate.

The finale takes place outside, at the runway. As soon as you enter this area the single most brilliant thing possible happens. A huge plane drops from the sky and spectacularly (!) crashes about 200m in front of you. The physics are amazing, and it's truly a sight to behold. You even have to be careful to not run into a tumbling turbine, that's coming to a halt in front the Survivors.

The escape vehicle is a large military plane, that needs to be fueled by a fuel tanker. I'm guessing there is pilot in the cockpit but I didn't see him.

I had to play the finale three times, until I beat it. You see the survivors fly away to safety, then the credits roll. Only the credits are statistic from the whole campaign, like number of Infected killed, damage dealt / taken and so on.

Left 4 Dead Death Toll

Death Toll has a "rural" setting and reminded me of Blood Harvest. I only played one and a half maps, from the beginning of the campaign, so I cannot say much about it.

The Survivors start in front of a broken down car, in the middle of nowhere, basically. Infected come running from the woods. There is a river nearby and you make your way through a tunnel and to a waste-water treatment plant. You go underground for a while, wading through shallow, muddy water.

Thanks for reading.
