Eurogamer.net has a new interview up with Valve's project manager Eric Johnson and marketing manager Doug Lombardi. (http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=74151) No specifics on the game - they mostly compare the creation of L4D with that of Counter-Strike. The most stand-out quote from the interview is from Eric Johnson:
"..there was this piece of Counter-Strike that people couldn't get away from. Over time it became a full-fledged product that continues to do well today. Left 4 Dead is way ahead of that. We feel pretty good about saying it's going to be the thing that finally beats Counter-Strike."
The article talks abut the hardships in trying to develop a successful and fun co-op game, which judging from the current industry offerings, is exactly right. Hearing these praises spoken is very encouraging indeed.
