So I KNOW I overclocked my q6600 quad to 3.6ghz however for some goofy reason cpu-z says im running at 2.4 ghz? wtf and when i first start cpu-z it flashes 3.6ghz but then comes back down to 2.4ghz? any ideas or im i just getting a big FAIL from cpu-z? (latest version 1.50)

comp specs:
Coolermaster gemin 2 heatsink (dual 120mm fans) (http://pan.fotovista.com/dev/6/3/00033436/l_00033436.jpg)
corsair VX550w Power supply
Q6600 quad(overclocked to 3.6ghz@1.4v)
ASUS p5q-E
4gb corsair xm2 ddr 800 ram
gtx 260 core 216
Western digital 7200rpm 250gb hard drive

turn off any intel speedstep or equivalents in bios, basically anything that clocks the cpu down when it's not in use. that or cpu-z is wrong, but that's unlikely.

The mobo is reducing the multiplier from 9 to 6 when the cpu is idle.

In the bios disable C1E and EIST and that should do it.

Just curious: what kind of temps are you getting at 3.4Ghz?

Thanks a lot ! im use to DFI boards! LOL normally they have the "cpu thermal throttle in big bold letters and on or off" I guess not on ASUS

I get roughly (last time i can remeber roughly in prime) near 48 ish or mid 40's I'll run a test and get back to you!

P.S. this overclock is "game stable" not prime stable I think 1 hour or so max with all 4 cores maxed (ya i know thats bad :)

not bad for a q6600. you always want to be prime stable though, for at least 12 hours. why not up the voltage a tad?

I voltaged my opteron 165 to hell and back lol 1.63 on air! (DUMB)..and to be honest I just don't feel like tinkering on it right not.....the huge downside to my heatsink is I literally can't remove my ram without removing my motherboard fliping it over and removing the retention screws that hold it in place....(i know stupid should get a new sink)

so if a "bad clock" comes up that I can't recover from comes up it's really going to suck!.......and even though this is the cpu clock were talking about it's OF COURSE going to lead to me upping my ram.....I had to pop out my ocz ram off and on luckily no such luck with corsair.
