Hey there,

I was just wondering if my 8500gt graphics card is good enough for games such as css, l4d, cod4, cod5 etc, because I get around 70-110 FPS on css and a constant 70 FPS on L4D.

I have an Athlon X2 6000+ CPU (3.00GHz) with 1.5gb of ram, pretty sure that it's decent enough for games such as l4d and css.

I was thinking about saving up enough money for a 9800gt or maybe a 9800gtx, but i'm not really sure if my graphics card is the problem, i've looked around on sites and people say that the 8500 is the benchmark for games such as l4d and should run at medium graphics. My res is 1024 x 768 for css and 800 x 600 or something for L4D (recently changed it down, thought it may help with the lag, I obviously guessed wrong)

I don't really know if I should get a new graphics card, I badly need a new monitor (got one of those big mothers) I get this problem when my screen closes up with a thin line in the middle of the screen and have to hit the monitor it's self for it to return to it's normal state. Thinking of getting a decent 22" screen wholesale (I love MSY).

Yeah so can anyone help me out?
Thanks alot fellas

So you get 70fps, but only at 600x800 resolution? And even then you get stuttering?

you wont have a prob valve games are focus more in cpu rather than gpu.

All of your other specs except the 8500gt are just fine, I think you need to upgrade the gpu... and give yourself a treat and add some ram

Well I only got the CPU a couple of months ago but my brother has an intel dual core 2.2 ghz processor with an 8600gt and he can run cod5 fine with 1024 x 768 res, you think it's the graphics card?

I run L4D on my 8800GT at 1920 by 1080 at on average 50fps on all high settings.

your CPU is fine but the video card you have is not that great i would get a upgrade to a 9800GT/GTX+ for a better effect in newer games the 8500gt is a really old card like 3 years now you can find a good 9800gt for about 100$ on newegg.

YOu should be fine if you can play CS:S ok. Just turn down graphics settings , also enable console and increaste your rate etc.

rate 20000
cl_cmdrate 101
cl_updaterate 101

resolution 800x should be fine.

LCD monitors are pretty cheap now. save on cash and go for a 19" monitor and buy some more ram. upto 3gb if your XP

because I get around 70-110 FPS on css and a constant 70 FPS on L4D.

I'm curious wtf is wrong with 70fps in L4D?
Either way have you tried higher res?
You shouldn't notice much of a difference.

Anyways yes, your monitor is crap, get a new one.

I feel your pain LOL but running a 19" widescreen although by no means crap I still want a 24or26" 1900x1200...there was a kickass deal on buy.com for a 25.5" westinghouse for 260 with Free shipping!
