View Full Version : Always move forward

I was just wondering whether anybody gets bugged by other survivors running back to safe room or another place to hold up once they get puked on or hammered by special infected. The idea would be to just stay together with your back to the walls. Every inch lost is an inch you have to fight all over again. Any sensible reasons for back-tracking, not including tank and witch incidents?

Ammo, weapons, health kit, pills, molotov, pipe bombs, lol.

I would back-track for a health pack if it isnt too far.
As for going back to help a survivor...depends.

Given that there is none of the above lying around that hasn't already been grabbed, and everybody has shotguns with loads of ammo

I 'm talking generally when survivors are in a good condition, all together and fully loaded but then get boomered and high-tail it backwards in a panic

Someone forgets their kit, get ammo, relocate to get a better advantage over the infected, and of course to get away from tank\horde.

There are certain areas its best to back track slightly rather than standing out in the open fighting infected every which way.

Haha sorry I've never seen or heard of somebody doing that.

Sometimes though, if you get boomered and you back track, by the time the horde stops the boomer has respawned and gone back to exact spot for a deja-vu

No one ever realises...
But seriously back tracking to a safer location that only takes a couple of seconds to reach doesn't bother me.

Hiding in the safe room is a good idea.

Off topic - I think maybe the 'contract a special infection' is getting Funky Biscuits to post on your thread. Also will edit next time

ot - It just seems to happen to me a lot these days and nobody looks back either so I get chumped.

Steve Cloud is going to beat your ass.

But I agree with both sides of this. Backtracking or moving forward depends on the map and the specific scenario surrounding the incident.

The Bottle

I suppose there is a time and a place, just some players are unaware of such. I like to move forwards whenver I can since its hard enough to get anywhere sometimes.

Its bad when people do camp in a random room as it gives the infect too much time to organise the ambush

If the location you get swarmed at isn't a good defense point, then there's absolutely nothing wrong with getting back to a nearby closet or the saferoom, anywhere you can bottleneck and survive. Turns out surviving is an important thing for survivors, and better defenses are better than worse defenses when it comes to defense. Even if you have to backtrack a few steps to set them up.

Backing up doesn't bother me too much. If you clear the horde then the ground is typically easy to regain. What I don't like is when we set a tank on fire and some coward runs *all* the way back to the safehouse when it's 2 or 3 times farther than he needed to run. Now we're split up for far longer than we had to be.

Yeah I think we have covered it all here. Thanks people, i'll not mouth off so much to the others as they leave me to die before I even see their trails of urine leading back into the safe room.

If back tracking happens, I'm ususally the dude giving cover to someone who just got out of the jesus closet. I enjoy saving people from god and giving them guns. >.<

as for Aussie talk, dont ask about the true local lingo. it can get tricky.

Actually, a number of times people'll not move from the saferoom at all, possibly the most irritating that I have ever seen, they just sit about until everyone leaves the game. WHY!?!?!? Oh, my first post in the forums by the way, so hey guys.

You are puked on while out in the open. The horde is attacking from more than one direction. Do you:

A. Run around aimlessly, trying to melee in every direction
-or-
B. Run back 5 seconds to a choke point, where you can focus your fire and easily protect all your teammates

I leave the decision up to you.

That's generally what happens.

Even without the bile.

I didn't think this thread would make it back on topic. Good to see somebody join in order to post on here, obviously somebody else has suffered by this.

Hon3r, consider this; You are walking into an ambush spot, for example, in the Boathouse finale where you leave the house and farm around in the fenced garden for a bit. The infected will always ambush you coming out of the garden into the open. If you were to get boomered and run back into the garden as it is easier to defend, the boomer can usually respawn in that time and repeats. However, if you just either got your backs to a car and stay tight, or got to the little cabin, you can weather the horde and can start moving as soon as it dies down, and the boomer has to find another ambush spot ahead.

Hax!

Everyone has different tactics. I find it enjoyable when there is a team full of different tactics and they cant stick with one. Some people rush ahead while others dig in a corner somewhere to fight off infected. Whatever you do, if youre not with your team, youre going to die, its that simple.

Always moving forward is not always the best choice and you cant honestly sit there and tell me that you get puked on once and then let that same boomer get you from the same direction over and over again, simply because youre sitting in one spot. If thats the case then youve got more to worry about than people sitting in one place.

It varies from situation to situation.

Suppose you are at the start of Dead Air 3. You're leaving the alley and about the enter the open construction site (right before you shoot the gas tank). As you leave the alley you get puked on. Do you:
A) Rush out further into the open
B) Slink back to the alley for a brief period of time and cover your asses
C) Concede that it actually does depend on the situation you're in when you're puked on

Edit: Okay, bad example since DA isn't playable online yet... but you get the idea.
