I have 650, and it's more than enough. If you plan on SLI, think big ... otherwise 600w should be fine.

Agreed, go with 600w for the mo. If ya need more POWER then by the time you need it the higher end PSU will have dropped in price.

Yee im getting a 8800 Gtx, but i need like 600 Watt or something, and atm ive got 250 (LoL!) got really chocked at the time i saw it...

Oh.. well thats a relief lol. Cause all the 700W are too high for my price range except for 1 by eagle tech that everyone said died the first month lol.

It's risky going with a 600W depending on the rest of your system specs.. if you get a 600W, make sure it's by a brand-name company. It's one of the items that you don't want to get a shit quality one. (I've seen some 500W+ actually run about 350W+ before.. it's not unusual to get ripped off like that.) If you want to make sure you have enough power for EVERYTHING, seriously, 700W+ isn't a bad idea at all.

I cant afford a 700W, im already gonna be broke pretty much after buying my new computer, an 8800 and this PSU 600W

What are some good companies/brands to look for PSUs from on Newegg?

Oh yeah and how long would a PSU probably last if i got a well made one from a well known brand?

You want to have a psu with multiple 12v rails. This is what I'm running atm:

Does me proud.

Was about to say it costs too much but after mail in rebate looks like pretty good deal.
How long have you had it? Any problems at all?

I've had it just over a year, no problems at all. Antec is a good name, and the TruePower line has been around for a long time.

Do you/anyone know if an 8600GTS could run CS:S and mabey Ep2 and Portal on High settings?

It has to man its a beast, as long as you have like a gig of ram to back it up. Those games arent INSANELY graphic intense

If you're currently running a 250w power supply, then i'm guessing the rest of your system is fairly low spec as well?

A slow system with a beastly graphics card just doesn't make sense personally, you're better off getting a lesser graphics card but improving the motherboard/RAM/CPU

Gotta agree with the man above. Not god obviously, I meant Teknobry. How is that God complex coming along anyway Tek? ;)

EDIT: Oh nvm. I see in your original post that you're getting an entirely new PC, which I assume means new mobo/RAM/etc. =)

No prob. I wasn't referring to your comment with the edit ... I had written something to A DUCK that no longer applied, but my statement was based off of your original comment. =) I probably should have edited out the quote, as well. So, yeah. No problem.

Not really, Ive got 2 Gig Ram, 2.41 Ghz Duel core processor and some Ati Graphics Card

Strange, was your system one of those bought of the shelf ready made ones?

Sometimes, to aid the selling point they'll throw a decent amount of RAM, HD and a good processor and then to keep it cheap pair it with poor motherboard, graphics and PSU.

Yup, i was going to buy each and every part from an excelent site that i really trust, But they didnt have the Processor that i wanted. So my dad suprised me by buying this Computer when he only went to buy Pizza :P

Teknobry(or anyone else) - Im getting new pc soon and was wondering if these are good specs (also note im on semi low budget cause i got no job right now):

Processor: Intel Core 2 Dueo E6600 4MB L2 Cache 2.4GHz 1066 FSB
OS: Vista Home
Memory: 2GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM 667MHz - 2 DIMMs
Hard drive: 320GB Serial ATA 3Gb/s (7200RPM) /w DataBurst Cache
Monitor: 20" Widescreen Digital Flat Panel
Video Card: 256 GeForce 8600GTS (8800 just too far out of my price range :\)

Would they be enough to play CS:S / Ep2 / Portal on high settings?

Teknobry
08-22-2007, 12:46 AM
Yep, it would blast them.

What motherboard are you going to be using?

The processor is good, i recommend that one.

As for the graphics card, personally I'd rather have a top of the range DX9 card, than a bottom of the range DX10 card. There just aren't enough dx10 titles to make buying the lowest spec dx10 card worth it, and when more games that are dx10 compatible come out, the 8600 will be struggling to run them. Pretty much a lose-lose scenario.

If you go for a good DX9 card, then I'd stick with windows XP as well, at least for the time being.

I have no idea what the motherboard will be lol.

Well i was thinking about getting an ati x1950XT or something like that but most ppl said its fan sucked ass so that i would have to get a heatsink for it plus make sure i have a good enough PSU, then install all of it lol. (I'm not building the computer myself btw) And my bro said i should just go ahead and get vista and a dx10 card now so i dont have to bother with getting them later.

Thanks :D

Problem with getting a dx10 card now, is that unless you get the 8800GTS/GTX, you'll be dissapointed.

The x1950xt seems a good card, pick it up cheap and it will do you well until next summer when you might think about upgrading to the next series of dx10 cards.
