I've been playing steam games for the last 4 years of my life and i have noticed the exact same problem with all the games i play. In game whether online or single player there are certian points where the game freezes up for maybe a second or two and lags and i will jump back to where i was a second ago. I have tried updating my graphics card drivers and have tried using overclocking to maybe increase the power of my graphics card but i dont believe thats the problem. This poblem not only happens with left 4 dead but Tf2 and Cs:S and CZ

Comp Specs Are:

Windows XP Home
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4600+ 2.41 GHz
2Gb of RAM
Raedon x850 graphics card with all drivers updated

This problem may have come up in the forums before and i will continue to search through to see if i can locate it in the mean time any help is greatly appriciated

Thank You

We've been hearing that a lot recently, I don't know if there are any fixes, but people with 8600 GTS's are also being affected.

8600 GTS

This is what I have, and I'm getting the issue too. It has decreased quite a bit from using a driver cleaner to remove old fragments of older drivers.

Sucks for them. But seriously, that does really suck.

A proper complete manual driver removal and installation might[u] help...

right click properties on my computer>advanced system settings>click HARDWARE tab>then device manager>click on display adapters and then click your card for example "gtx 260"

click uninstall....

even without the drivers installed of course your comp will still be do-able in windows...and remove\delete any old drivers...then go and get fresh amd\nvidia drivers

I had to do this on my 7800gt and on my 8800gt for shitty EA games bf2 (god I hate EA finding a F&*king patche for there games and crap, don't support you like valve) anyways...it fixed my problem when normal unistaller packages didn't work.

if maybe a new card is in order? could give this guy a look..... (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127399)

(+comes with rainbow 6 vegas 2)

It's a real budget card, but will do the job plus the 1gb of vram is good for higher resolutions, however it is only 128-bit...$60 bucks after mail in rebate doesn't require PCI-e hook-up but I worry about it cooking, heatsink looks a little weany, another option 8800gt\9800gt or 9800gts\x

(I have no idea of your computer skills so I am breaking it down as simple as possible, please don't take offense)

I would do a fresh uninstal and reinstal of your display drivers useing driver sweeper (google it) then try it but also in L4D turn off multi core rendering in the video setup that might help in L4D.
