Played through it already and just doing the same. Its very very purdy! Also, its a lot of fun. I might pick this up its better than I thought.
Downloading atm. Glad to hear it's good ... the MoH series has kinda been downhill since the first, imo.

Actually, that isnt true at all. (for the PC anyway).
Here's the first game: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/9/95/Moha a2.jpg (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/9/95/Mohaa2.jpg)
Very crappy graphics.
And the second game: http://www.cdrinfo.com/Sections/Articles/Sources/P owercolor_X300/Images/mohpc/assault.jpg (http://www.cdrinfo.com/Sections/Articles/Sources/Powercolor_X300/Images/mohpc/assault.jpg)
It's a bad screenshot, isn't normally that blurry, but it has good graphics.
And here's Airborne: http://digitalbattle.com/wp-content/uploads/2006/1 0/moha.jpg (http://digitalbattle.com/wp-content/uploads/2006/10/moha.jpg)
That has to be the best graphics ever in an FPS (Bioshock has great graphics too, but it's too dark to see them most of the time.)

I wasn't much impressed with the idea of this MoH: Airborne. But a friend was playing the demo during a LAN I was at yesterday and I was awestruck. It is much better than the WWII shooters I've played in the past. Though the weapon accuracy is questionable :/ Fortunately there's melee to help compensate for that :D

Yup, I love charging at full speed and meleeing an enemy right in the head and send them across the street. The gravity for some reason is very low, and unrealistic, but funny.

It's a mod for the MoH: Airborne demo.
Converts all of the Italian Blackshirts in the demo to Elite German SS AI.
Trying it out right now, to see the difference.
Just overwrite the DefaultAI file under MOHAGame/Config.

wow a mod for a demo....
what the hell is this world coming to?
Didn't see all that much difference, tbh. Except for the fact that the SS throw A LOT more grenades than the Italians. I really like the active grenade HUD, it shows the direction of the nade, and how close you are (the closer you are, the more red the display). So as you move away from the inevitable boom, it becomes white, indicating that you're at safe distance. Cool.
Man, one of the most impressive parts of the demo is the few seconds you spend in the airplane before the jump. Some of the best facial expressions I've ever seen in any game.

Yep, I just pwned MoH: Airborne.
The effects of the mod - the soldiers are still represented as Blackshirts, but w/ "upgraded" abilities.
1. Enemies now use suppressing fire.
2. Enemies flank and move from cover to cover more often.
3. Enemies can now throw grenades!
4. Enemies work more as a team and react to your movements faster.
It's true, they do. I'm gonna try it on hard and see if they put up a fight.

I played the 360 version finally, wasn't dissapointed or impressed. It was ok. I think the weapon strength needs to be tuned a bit. With the rifle that has nearly full power, I shot a guy in the chest and he didn't die. It always took 2 shots.
Oh, and how do you land correctly? I got my first skill point in the tower and got beat down cuz I fucked up the landing.

The best most people have done is flared, which is when you press jump to flare before you land.

What do you do to get a better landing? Push jump or something before you land?
DJTricky
08-28-2007, 12:49 AM
Well did you botch it or flare it before? Flared takes about 5 seconds to get combat ready, botched takes about 12.
There's also a "greased" landing, that basically has you hit the ground running with your weapon drawn. You have to both flare (hit jump) and contact the ground at a certain angle ... I for one have not discovered the correct angle. But I flare 9 out of 10 times, I usually botch while kicking a German in the face.

I don't know why everyone keeps talking about jumping to get the good landing...when I played a few days ago after my first jump the next 5 or so before I stopped playing were perfect.....i'm pretty sure all I did was press forward on the left analog stick but I could be wrong....i know i didn't hit jump though, the controls for that game or different them I'm used to so i didn't know what jump was.....after playing bioshock for like 7 hours I felt like a retard trying to use the demo's controls.
Xerosnake90
08-28-2007, 10:32 AM
... I don't know wtf this botched or flared open thing means, so please fill me in.
There are three landings. Botched, flared and greased.
Even when you botch, you're still able to fight, but you take a little damage (I think), you're very disoriented, and it takes a long time to ready your weapon. In the meantime, you're being shot up and pistol whipped by pissed off Germans.
When you pull off a flared landing, you take no damage and ready your weapon a lot sooner, twice as fast, I believe. Flaring requires that you press jump before impact, and come in at a reasonable angle.
To "grease" a landing, you have to contact the ground at the mythical perfect angle of decent. Apparently, when you grease, you hit the ground running, no disorientation, and your weapon is ready immediately.
<div class="quote">As for landing the best landing is a greased landing. Do that by coming in fast and flat almost like you can see your guy running as he lands. Don't flare. Swoop in low and fast and you'll grease your landing.</div>
... add to this the fact that you can kick Germans in the head with melee while coming in, if you pull off a greased landing AND take out a kraut, you're a certified badass.
There's also a fourth landing, in which you DIE. It's usually accomplished by trying to land somewhere dangerous, like the top of that watch tower, only to miss your mark, stumble and fall four stories. Not cool, and decidedly un-badass.

It's weird how you can grease a landing in BF2, because no matter how well you're chuting, the instant you touch the ground your feet are just flat on it, no running and theres that intermediate pause between chute and walking/running. It's like the opposite in Airborne, the chuting itself is impossible to do, but you can grease, in BF2 the chuting is easy but you cant?!
Etheallmighty
08-28-2007, 11:14 AM

I just greased my first jump. Then my second, and third.
Given the right circumstances, greasing is quite simple, as Etheal has pointed out. If you have a nice stretch of road, you can grease without flaring at all. Just line yourself up with the straightaway and keep pressing forward. So long as you have enough forward momentum and come in relatively level, you'll grease.
When you try to get tricky with your landings, however, such as taking out the German manning the MG on the mansion balcony, your only real choice is to flare. There's simply no room to grease.
Assuming you have the room to pull it off, greasing is a piece of cake. The majority of cool skill landings, on the other hand, require careful flaring and often a well timed melee kick to clear the drop zone. Greasing results in the smoothest landing ... but flaring and kicking tends to be far more difficult and ultimately cool.

Edit: Rofl, greased my first landing.
Yeah. It's easy once you know how. =)
My mistake, I kept flaring when attempting to grease. I googled it, and found that flaring actually works against you when greasing.
It's far more difficult to flare your way onto the skill drops, especially when there's a German to kick on the way in.

how do you kick?
You can also kick grenades. If a grenade gets close to you, it will say "Press Melee To Kick Grenades" or something, that's when you kick.
So, I've been thinking. What weapon do you think think should be upgraded first? I'm thinking the pistol because that hair trigger combined with magnum rounds is totally nuts! Besides, the pistol has unlimited ammo and it is you're last resort so it would be wise to upgrade it.

I don't think I've EVER seen the enemy throw grenades, im playing at expert level too :( I might go download the AI mod thats already out for the demo but it'll be a hassle. On expert difficulty the game is incredibly easy. You only die if you do something completely stupid like stand up when theres a machine gunner right infront of you.
Safe to say CoD is out of the WW2 shooters race, so its now between BiA:HH and MoH:A.
Personally, I like everything about BiA, it covers some of the same missions in Airborne, but the fact that you can actually parachute, puts MoH in a tiny lead.
They won't throw grenades unless you apply the improved AI patch.
Default Italian Blackshirt AI won't throw grenades. Elite SS Expert AI will rain grenades on you like confetti.
It's not a hassle at all. Tiny download, you overwrite one file and it's done. Totally worth it. Much more challenging.

It sucks, my game keeps on restarting my comp!, really really annoying, though I played it at my friends house. Amazing!
Restarting your comp?
I've had that happen to me twice in the past (not with MOH:A, just in general).
First time, it turned out to be my RAM. Bad stick, corrupt. The other time, my vid card was faulty (the much maligned Nvidia 7900). It worked for most games, I had it for almost a year, but as soon as I attempted to play GalCiv2 (of all things), BSoD and instant restart. There's actually a setting in Windows, where you tell your comp NOT to restart after a fatal error. That way, you'll know if it's actually a blue screen that's killing your system.
For the life of me, I can't remember where to change that setting ... anyone else know?

And DAMN the pistol is hella strong upgraded, two hits to kill if not a headshot + unlimited ammo + quick fire + quick draw = GUNSLINGER! Man dualies would kick ass! I went through a whole game just using the pistol and it was easy. I definately upgraded the pistol first.

If I'm thinking of the same skill drop, you actually have to land on top of steeple, right next to the cross. Way easier than landing next to the bell.

Do skill drops do anything? They seem fairly hard to do (as if landing flared or greased wasn't) so it must be worth the effort, right?
I think they unlock 360 achievements ... other than that, they often provide a really bitchin' angle on the battlefield, a vantage point you can really do some damage from.

They're not that hard. For a grease you just need to align yourself straight and imagine that when you hit the ground you need to immediately start running, so you want a good straight angle. Pretty much hold forward, and make sure your body is facing straight, it turns with the mouse and stuff, so if you move it a lot it might be off. I also find looking straight or even up helps, instead of staring at your feet.
As for the flare, I just smash the space key over and over again when im close to the groud :)

How the hell did you get your hands on that sniper rifle?

IT IS MY SECRET!!!! >:(
But I shall share.
Here's what you have to do.
• enable console
• use the ghost command to get to where the sniper rifle is located then get back to the action
Here's how.
1) Right-click the Airborne Demo desktop icon, select Properties
If you don't have a desktop icon then go to the demo install and create a shortcut ie. right click MOHADemo.exe - Send To - Desktop (create shortcut)
default location is...
C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\Medal of Honor Airborne Demo\UnrealEngine3\Binaries
2) Go to the Shortcut tab, look for the Target: line.
3) the line will end with: \MOHADemo.exe" (including the " mark). Add a single space after the " , then type in: -enableconsole
4) The line should now look something like this (first part may be different depending on where you installed it): "C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\Medal of Honor Airborne Demo\UnrealEngine3\Binaries\MOHADemo.exe" -enableconsole
5) Click Apply, and OK.
6) Start the demo.
7) Once in gameplay, press the tilde key ( ~ ) to bring up the console.
8) Upon landing, use the ghost command in the console (press tilde (~), type ghost, press ENTER) and goto the area where the demo ends (Which will be blocked by a wooden portcullis). Follow the road till you come to the dead end with the barbwire and in the building right beside it, there is aMG42 in the window of the first floor, you can go up the stairs and find a Springfield sniper rifle laying on the floor with a beam of light shining down upon it. Go back to the action and use the ghost command again to take part in the game.
ALL HAIL ME FOR SHOWING YOU THE SPRINGFIELD SNIPER RIFLE!
Upgrades:
Match Grade Bolt (i think)
+ Rate Of Fire
5 Round Stripper
+ Reload
Grenade Launcher
Ability to shoot grenades.
Coooooool. Thanks, DJ. I'm all over this.

Uhhhh.... that's really wierd.
Wow. The Springfield is awesome. The blur effect when zooming is wicked. Also, I'm impressed with the AI. They actually react to and hide from you when you attempt to snipe. And they come after you hard. The AI doesn't like a sniper. Mind you, I'm running the Elite SS mod, but it's still the first time I've really seen it in an FPS.

Wtf, is that a Mr. Fantastic as a Nazi?
Btw- The other rifle has a grenade shot too, its damn annoying how grenades back then dun explode on contact, even when fire from a rifle. I tried using it on a gun emplacement right when you get into the mayors house, it bounced back to me and killed me.
Thx... if it works. It worked, I get easier headshots with the other rifle.

Add this to your DefaultInput.ini in C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\Medal of Honor Airborne Demo\UnrealEngine3\MOHAGame\Config:
.Bindings=(Name="F1",Command="Slomo 0.2",Control=False,Shift=False,Alt=False,IsRebind a ble=False,BindPos2=False,MOHAConsoleBinding=False)
.Bindings=(Name="F2",Command="Slomo 1",Control=False,Shift=False,Alt=False,IsRebind abl e=False,BindPos2=False,MOHAConsoleBinding=False)
.Bindings=(Name="F3",Command="Slomo 4",Control=False,Shift=False,Alt=False,IsRebind abl e=False,BindPos2=False,MOHAConsoleBinding=False)
.Bindings=(Name="F4",Command="ghost",Control=False ,Shift=False,Alt=False,IsRebindable=False,BindPos2 =False,MOHAConsoleBinding=False)
Make sure you add this under [Engine.PlayerInput], not anywhere else, as doing so may give rise to instability.
Edit: to clarify the purpose of this script:
With this enabled, you can enable/disable slow-motion by depressing F1 and F2 respectively. F3 is, err, hectic.
F4 is ghost mode, or noclip. Useful if you want to get the sniper rifle.

Nice work there Quotidian, does the slomo include god mode too or something? And is slomo 4 super speed?

Nice work there Quotidian, does the slomo include god mode too or something? And is slomo 4 super speed?
Just to clarify, I did not create the script seen above. I downloaded it from FP. Seeing as it's just an .ini file, I thought it'd be appropriate to copy and paste the code so that everyone else could enjoy it.
Thanks, though :)
For god mode:
.Bindings=(Name="F5",Command="god",Control=False,S hift=False,Alt=False,IsRebindable=False,BindPos2=F alse,MOHAConsoleBinding=False)
Add it under [Engine.Playerinput], as before.
Edit: it seems like there are several spaces in the above that I cannot remove - make sure you manually remove these.
Example: "S hift".

Well, I'm playing the full game now. Finished the campaign, moving on to multiplayer. Damn those Nazi Storm Elites are BRUTAL... and I still got that scene from market garden in the head... poor guy :(

The game was incredible, all the way up to market garden was amazing, the overhead views where nearly photo realistic, market garden gave my eyes to much orgasms they're tired, but wtf is with the last two levels, the mg42 slinging Storm Elites, it killed itself as a realistic game, I loved it but it killed the realistic factor with the last two levels, and wtf was with the second last level, the one boss battle when you went inside to blow up the train was insane, no one even parachuted in to help me, the last mission wasn't that bad just confusing and took forever what to do.
I had a few problems with the install, as have others. I've since solved the problem, and things are running smooth.
If you're having issues trying to intall MoH:A, try any or all of the following:
1) Uninstall any Ageia PhysX drivers you might have on the system.
2) Ensure your Windows Firewall is ON. Disable any third party firewall.
3) Ensure your Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing service is active and running. Run ---> services.msc, scroll down to the bottom, right-click Windows Firewall/Internet ---> click "start" (if it's not grayed out, which indicates it is already running).
4) Be sure to shut down all processes running the the background, ad/spyware blockers, etc.
If your install dies at the very beginning, it's probably existing PhysX drivers that are screwing you. If the install rollsback at the end, it's likely because your Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing process needs to be initialized.
These seem to be the most common issues causing problems with MOH:A install. Hopefully the solutions sort you out.
