Ok, So I bought this computer a few weeks ago

HP Pavillion
with a nVidia MCP61 mother board
AMD Phenom(tm) 9150e Quad-Core Processor 1.81 GHz
7.00 GB RAM
630GB Hard drive
HP w2207 Wide LCD Monitor
NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE nForce 430
Realtek High Definition Audio

Now before you go of raving about how I need serious upgrades, no.
I am not going to spend any more money then I already have on this rig at the moment. So dont mention the top notch shit, please. I cant afford it right now.

So basically my problem is this random lag spike that hits me every time I am on the damned computer. I can be doing anything, watching videos, playing games, L4D, chatting. Or simply staring at the desktop and this strange lag would occur.
My mouse would drag and whatever I am doing will get choppy for a few seconds, video will lag, music will skip etc. And then after the usually 5 second lag everything will turn back to normal but then repeat itself 4-6 seconds later.

I cant do anything, because its repetitive.
I dont know what to do..
I seriosuly need help, I called up the HP people. There dumbfucks and didnt even know how to help.

Check your computer for any running processes at the time. Sounds like you have either some malware or possibly a virus scanner that routinely starves your computer of resources.

EDIT: The easiest way would be to toss up your task manager (CTRL+SHIFT+ESC) and sort the list by CPU usage. When the system chokes, see if any processes spike.

I had that a good while ago. Basically everything ran fine but the mouse trailed behind my actual movements and everything took seconds to respond. Afraid I had to re-install windows.

And 7GB of RAM? You even need that much? xD

You have 7 gigabytes of RAM? That makes absolutely no sense whatsoever, especially when considering the rest of your system.

Ya it seems like now retail computer makers think having a ton of cheap ram makes up for having cheap other parts but u can try making windows use all 4 cores in windows by running msconfig its in there somewhere idk where exactly.

Yeah, lol.

What i'm going to say is that you might need a serious upgrade if you want to play all the new games. But if you can't afford then to bad for you :P.

1. Sell 4 gigs of RAM.
2.Use the money to get upgrades.
3.If that doesn't work, get a job.
4.Use money from said job to buy upgrades.
5.???
6.PROFIT!!!

My friend had a system like that, but with a faster core speed. Like 2.5 Ghz or something. Then I gave him my old 8600GT. PROFIT!
I dunno, either a resource hogging program, or something more retarded.

Also might be a ram issue. Do you even have a 64bit OS?

Try removing RAM until you get down to one stick and see if your problem exists. If it does. Try a different stick. Repeat. I would assume it is not a bad stick if with 3 different sticks. The problem still exists.

RAM is weird. It can cause alot of random problems. Another problem is that if you don't have a 64 bit OS, maybe that much RAM is throwing your computer off somehow. So reduce total RAM to 4 max (even though 32bit OS can only use like 3.25)

Edit: But looking at your specs again I would be tempted to say that it is a problem that has already been diagnosed. Meaning it is problem some program deciding to run that isn't multicore ready so it sucks away your 1.8 ghz. Check ctrl+alt+del sorted by CPU usage for running process that spike.

Also, I dunno if it has been said. But check for viruses and spyware.

Edit2: Also look for things trying to connect to the internet for updates. Antivirus, Java, Windows, etc, etc. Disconnect from the internet and see if that helps.

stop antivirus, windows defender, defragmenter and indexing from running in the background (google should tell you how, if necessary).

LOL owned! ya I get a real weak version of what you got But always blame it on the server! + happens 2 my friends in unison

1. AMD Phenom(tm) 9150e Quad-Core Processor 1.81 GHz----FREE MHZ! overclock it!!! just a thought

2. NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE "might" be an issue have you turned off anti-aliasing in game or turned down settings?

3. Download ad-aware made by lavasoft it's on cnet for download (so no more crap viruses shit) and updates 4 free and i just ran it on a shitter laptop im fixing and really helped out
