Just here to discuss the series overall. If you need help, ask, and I will help or give you links. I have played every game, and own most of them. I have also beaten all in the main series (0,1,2,3,Codde Veronica X) under 2.5 hours or so. (SPEED RUNS) so, if you want help with a game, or just want to learn about the series because of the new release of RE 5, post it here!

Just, please. Keep it related. Every post should at least have SOMETHING related to the games. This includes the spin offs, Umbrella Chronicles, Dead Aim, Outbreak, Survivor, etc.

And here's a poll on which control/play scheme you like best in the series.

The OTS POV is REALLY immersive. Actually, I remember RE 4 for the G.C. as excellent for that reason.

Makes me want to pull it out and play it again on my Wii.

Oh, yeah, the RE2 remake is going to be for the Wii only? SWEET! (Well, for me.) Played "Obscure 2" on the Wii, I can only hope that the controls will be that cool. (Swing wiimote for golf club, point and shoot for the handgun/shotgun.)

BTW, they had better NOT f**k it up. RE2 is the BEST of the series.

I like the over the shoulder because I found the camera was crappy. it was always in one fixed spot and usually never where you want it to face. like there could be a zombie down the hall but you couldn't know till you get there. not to say I didn't like the games I loved them.... to an extent of course. I really just want a straight up zombie game. kill hordes of infected no special zombies or pyschos getting in you way and no mutated things...... however I doubt that will happen. I really enjoyed RE4 some of it was ok and kinda took away from the story but all together was pretty fun and cool.

Just bought 5 a few hours ago. I'm on Ch. 5-2 now, and so far, I really like it.
Makes me want to pull it out and play it again on my Wii.
I really hate the Wii version of 4. Way too complicated and maybe it's just me, but the graphics seemed to take a step backwards from the PS2 version. Probably because Wii wasn't meant for awesome graphics.

Gotta say I do love the OTS... it's where it all started.

I only played RE4 and 5.
I saw some videos of the older versions and I prefer the newer over-the-shoulder look because it seems to add to the environment.

but the graphics seemed to take a step backwards from the PS2 version
I own the Wii Version and I've played the PS2 version and I agree. The Wii was made for more cartoonish games. (Mario Kart Wii, Wii Sports, etc.)

Why does Lisa Trevor still scare the shit out of me to this day?

linkmelee1993
03-20-2009, 03:39 PM
because she's a bitch. with her mother's face plastered to hers. yech.

so was anyone else freaked when we learned about a month before 5 came out that Jill had a gravestone? (if you played it, you know my hunger is satisfied for the question.)

yeah... playing RE5 rit now... and who said anything about an RE2 remake? I know an RE 0 port is going to the wii... but a REMAKE 2? yeah right. It's called the "Darkside Chronicles" or something like that. It's basically an improved Umbrella Chronicles, only it takes mostly place in RE 2, Code Veronica, and 4. It follows Leon, Claire, and Sherry most of the way. Don't worry, more untold stories are to be told. Supposedly, and don't quote me on this (not literally, please), there is to be the ending story on Leon, Claire, and Sherry after they escaped Raccoon City. We already know Claire was told by Leon to leave them alone shortly after escaping, and Leon was hired for the government while asking if Sherry was being taken care of (epilogues in RE 3), but what happened between there? And where did Jill find Chris? We are supposed to find out about this and more. There's also supposed to be the ends of the stories of Hunk, Ada, Billy Coen, and Carlos... Among others...

Please don't ask me where I found this. I can't remember, and most of it may be bullshit. I really don't know WHAT to trust anymore... but if it's as good as UC was (I logged in 40 hours in 3 days by 'borrowing' my friends wii... while he was gone. :3), it should rock. look for it within a year or so. Yay!

If they'd just change the controls on the first three to something easier I'd gladly play them but right now RE4 is the only one I've actually finished.

I vored for the first ones. I fucking hate this new series. I don't mean to offend people that love the new Resident Evil but I liked the old ones way better.

linkmelee1993
03-20-2009, 03:53 PM
I have no preference. That's why I made this thread! I think they each have their trade offs and pros and cons, all that jazz. But, you know, shooters are quickly becoming the public's favorite type of game (see new game informer or gamepro, my friend showed me), and RE wasn't exactly that much of a shooter... much. it was "too slow" for today's standards. So, they evolved into a quicker paced "action game". Note quotes.

To evolve is to survive. That is the law of everything. Sorry, it's true. Personally, I could stay up all night playing RE 3 on Hard 10 times to unlock all of the epilogues... oh wait, I already did. Boy, Nemesis is really easy with a gatling gun and infinite launcher! :3

Bill_the_nonchalant
03-20-2009, 03:58 PM
We have to remember where Resident Evil started off and how it got so popular. I mean it used to be zombies for gods sake. zombies!
I just liked it back when you actually had to think outside the box to kill a boss. Rather than shoot the shit out of him like every other game.

And I miss the puzzle solving, I liked it back when it was horror and not action, that's why I hate the movies.

linkmelee1993
03-20-2009, 04:05 PM
yeah... those were the days...

I'm actually glad RE 5 had ONE really cool puzzle. The laser beam thing. That was pretty cool the first time I did it... Although Sheva really pisses me off when she gets stuck in a corner without me noticing, then when I turn it, the beam kills her... d'oh!

Bill_the_nonchalant

I heard the sixth may head back to the old days. God I hope so.

linkmelee1993
03-20-2009, 04:09 PM
Yeah. In an interview on G4 (... I think that's where it was...) They said that, and quote, "Resident Evil/ Biohazard 6 will reboot the entire series..."

So maybe that's back to the old school gaming... with zombies... and the OTS???

Let's hope it's not a Gears placeholder... o.o

Bill_the_nonchalant
03-20-2009, 04:16 PM
If Resident Evil goes Gears of War style I'll just pretend the series has been stoped due to bankruptsy.

linkmelee1993
03-20-2009, 04:18 PM
LOL... But I doubt that'll ever happen... Although, a Gears type version of the battles between the UBCS in Raccoon City with hordes of zombies and BOW's... Or an FPS...

You know, RE was originally going to be a FPS. But they decided it wouldn't be scary enough. Although, tight corridors with zombies popping out at you, giant snakes... Lickers' toungues... ?

Bill_the_nonchalant
03-20-2009, 04:21 PM
I like the camera veiw. Because it controls what you see, allowing for easier scare tactics. Just like the licker jumping through the window of the interigation room during the police station in, I think, Resident Evil 3, was it?

linkmelee1993
03-20-2009, 04:25 PM
Yeah. And before that, when you first entered the station, you saw one climbing around a window... In the next long corridor, there was blood dripping, and a decapped corpse... Then you had a movie where the licker jumped down and went all "aarrrrrrggggghhhhhhgggghhhh" and swept his tongue across the floor... that was cool.

Yeah. It broke through when you took the cord to start the lockdown procedure... never did it after the first time, needless to say...

And did you know RE2 was the only RE game (in US, anyway) to have an infinite ammo cheat???

Bill_the_nonchalant
03-20-2009, 04:30 PM
And did you know RE2 was the only RE game (in US, anyway) to have an infinite ammo cheat???

No, I didn't. That's an interesting fun fact.

Thaty's another thing I liked about the original. You had to find items and junk to get to the next part. Not just shoot a bunch of shit.

linkmelee1993
03-20-2009, 04:33 PM
Yeah... ALthough I will say RE 5 had me hurtin for ammo a lot more than RE 4... And they called it PERFECTION... No, Pac-Man and Galaga were perfection, my friends. Re 4... Damn good, but the fad of new action games sure beefed it up.

Bill_the_nonchalant
03-20-2009, 04:38 PM
Yea, they have competition with Gears of War and Halo.

Yeah. And before that, when you first entered the station, you saw one climbing around a window... I remember that window.

Lol. No, I wasn't talking about backwards compatibility.

I'm glad some people still appreciate the older games. Frankly, I think the new series is really lacking in puzzles. Those were my favorite parts of the older games. You had to think, not just run around shooting big monsters with rocket launchers.

Dre
03-20-2009, 09:09 PM
dude, if 5 was longer like 4 was and had a crap load of puzzles like 0,1,2,3 had, then, it would be my fav resident evil. but this game gets SUPER AWESOME scores from me for the simple fact that this game has the desert eagle in it, i loved RE 2 because it had a desert eagle in it.

linkmelee1993
03-21-2009, 02:27 PM
haha, desert eagles are overrated... and does anyone else remember how Wesker use to have that fucking HUGE magnum? in 5 it's the S&W 500, that huge thing? Well now he uses the Lightning Hawk (or what I call, the Pussy Magnum).

Yea, 4 was even shorter than 5... I beat 4 in 3 hours or so, and 5 has me take 4 hours, even on Amateur... I think. Oh wait, here: 2 hours and 57 minutes. I'll check on 4 for ya later...

Yeah, before I knew about the series, one of my friends told me how he was at a friend's playing it, and they saw it and thought it was a giant spider... and he hates spiders, so... he freaked out... LOL

Milenkov
03-21-2009, 06:39 PM
In the original RE, I enjoyed battling the giant effing plant, but the end really ruined it for me, mainly for the fact that I felt kind of spoiled getting that damn rocket launcher.

There needs to be a option where its both option 1 and 2 combined. I honestly think that would increase suspense ingame and drama by being able to see a massive horde walking slowly to you and your inescapable death.

Grieverlionhart
03-22-2009, 04:07 AM
Why the hell can't you freely walk around? I hate arcade shooters because you always find enemies that take truckloads of headshots and don't get stunned, which also find the power to drain half your health away. . .

Higgy531

I have beaten every RE game (even survivor, which you have to finish in one go because you can't save -.-), and I like the original viewpoint better. I miss the setting of Raccoon city, too.

Dre
03-22-2009, 05:23 AM
i havent beaten survivor, RE3, and outbreak two.

i could never finish three, dont know why, like i had it on the PS1, the disc got messed up, so i got another, my PSone broke, got it on PC for roms, just never got into it with sooo many games to pla, got it on the PSP and now the rom dont seem to work any more, its like teh game gods is keeping me from playing that game.

Yeah, Raccoon City is cool, but do we really need more of it? Other than UC, I thought Raccoon City was getting worn out. Remember that shaft with the walkways in 2? Yeah, it was used in 0 and Outbreak as well... The whole facility. Seriously, the same ROOM three times in a series... That's a bit outrageous.

My friend Regenerator would like a word with you.
If you didn't find those things creepy running around in that abandoned lab knowing you can run into one around a corner, props to you.

Want a stun? Shoot them in the knee. You'll find it very satisfying.

I prefer the OTS control scheme over the original (never really played the third option) but only by a small margin. But yeah the originals were definitely way more terrifying than 4 and 5.
5 so far being the least terrifying. Still, it's a lot of fun.
I don't mind puzzles if they're there or not. They're a cool defining feature for RE5 but mostly I want to blow the crap out of some zombies and look awesome doing (TREETRUNK ARMS!).

I miss the horror in the old games, though.

okay, but you needed to get the files somewhere. Did you do it from the game disk itself or download? I know a friend who got the ORIGINAL Super Mario Bros for his (the NES one), and he almost gave it to me, but said I need to "fix" it. It got stolen at a Scout Camp, (yes I'm a Boy Scout) and I never saw it again. Bastard. However, I have my original (the old "Tank" black one, I traded a friend for his slim) that I can get back, so... Yeah.

i have the original FFVII and RE3 disc, so i burn it to my COMP and then use a program to convert them games into PSP format, then, i just load it to my PSP and start playing, simple as that, that entire process would take less than twenty mins. literally.

also, i download some games ISO(playstation image file) and convert those to PSP format the same as i did with my disc, when i burn my disc to my computer, it makes a ISO file, you can use those same ISO files on emulators.

i dont know about cartridges though, you need special gadgets to get those games on your PC from the cartridge itself.

I am late in this thread!
I find Resident Evil 3 to be pretty amazing. The whole running from Nemesis made it all the better. I've played most of the games. I have not gotten a copy of the on-rails, except Umbrella Chronicles, and only played File one of Outbreak. Didn't play any of the GBA ones either, which is obvious why.

I don't see why everyone complains so much about the controls in the games, certainly the earlier games. Up moves forward, Down moves back, left turns you left, right turns you right. Hold a button for run, hold another button for aim, and press another for shooting. I think what the real problem is when people complain is that they go down a hallway and turn around by accident because they decide to press the opposite direction because of the fixed cinematic camera.

oroborous

It's because no matter what, people can never be satisfied with what they have. It's our nature, as sick as it is, lol.

But I agree with you. I think now that I've been exposed to easier controls, I get a little frustrated with the older ones, but once you get back into it, they're just as enjoyable.

Magnum ammo is hard to find though, but 9 mm is very easy.you know you can BUY ammo right???
you need LOTS of money though.

what you do is buy a weapon, and then sell it, you keep any ammo thats in the gun.

when i got the desert eagle for the first time, i bought a BUNCH of magnums(the first ones) and sold them, i had over 150 bullets for my eagle, boy, i was going GUN happy in next few level.

i do that for any gun i need ammo for.

I voted for old fashion because in the older RE games, you were actually fighting zombies. Not creatures that seem more fit in gears of war or halo. Its more of "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" now with little creatures being inside the humans.

linkmelee1993
03-26-2009, 09:36 AM
LOL great pic, Dre. Touche' with little Half-Squat, the killer crack selling toddler from tropic thunder... haha... You get a cookie.

Actually, I've been thinking about it more and more- RE will never change, Capcom always pleases their fans, but NEVER listen to anyone else (ergh), but the BEST way to play a NEW RE game... Well, take the claustrophobic mansion and add the close OTS controls... Voila!

BAsically, you're in tight corridors, and can never see behind you. That's the problem: Both types had flaws: The original had the scary, slow moving enemies that wouldn't die, but you could see EVERYWHERE. The new ones have a huge wide open space, and you can only see in front of you.

Combine the two, and you'll never see the zombie coming up from behind you... or around the corner... It's perfect!

And for the rail shooters... The best will be the new Darkside Chronicles... If you guys HAVE a Wii, I absolutely suggest getting Umbrella Chronicles and, soon, the Darkside Chronicles: it stars Claire and Leon, and possibly tells hidden stories in the series. (It will likely cover 2, Code Veronica, and the in betweens, plus probably some more of Chris and Jill, possibly Sheva, and maybe more Ada, Wesker, and HUNK. And possibly Krauser...?)

And why does everyone think RE 4 and 5 are filled with aliens?! Really?!?!?! THEY'RE BOWs INSIDE HUMANS, DAMMIT!

(don't mean to flame, but I'm tired of everyone hating on the game even though L4D is ridiculously awesome, too.)

linkmelee1993

Resident Evil 4 and 5: BOWs. (Bio-Organic Weapons) Yes, NOT zombies.

Left 4 Dead: RABIES VICTIMS. Yes, NOT zombies.

I don't see anyone flaming L4D on the RE websites!

They're not aliens, but best comparable to aliens. Certainly they are not zombies though. Since a zombie has nothing living inside it controlling it. A zombie IS the creature.

Darkness

Left 4 Dead: RABIES VICTIMS. Yes, NOT zombies.

No... rabies is fatal. This is a mutant rabies virus that affects their brain in such a way that this occurs making them zombies. No, they are not the living dead.

Well I personally really liked RE4 (LEON!, seems longer than 5) but all this talk has made me remember what a BEAST RE2 was, you got two games in one plus minigames
(Hunk FTW, also why I liked RE4 with its mercenaries, also LEON!)

Still, the new version is really fun, but they should get rid of the partner and come back with the "eating your face" zombies instead of this las plagas bullcrap (Chainsaw guys piss me off - a bag deflects bullets?) that would make it MUCH better and feel like a close up of the original which sounds great

Otherwise, well done Capcom.

So yeah... Played RE3:Nemesis twice again today... Only one more epilogue to unlock... Wow. I beat it 9 times... huh. And 7 of those was in two weeks...

I have issues.

Plus, the cover system was needed with the guns, but kinda clunky. very useful from NOT DYING!!!

All right, no double posting, so here's something new: LIST YOUR LEAST FAVORITE/MOST HATED PUZZLES, LIST GAME, PART, ETC..

Mine, RE 3: Hospital. That "Sick Room" where Carlos must push that damn cart into one of the four corners where one will open a vault for the base for the cure for Jill. Not only does it take forever, but you only have a 25% chance of being right and NOT getting electrocuted... God, it sucks.

I liked having Sheva as a partner, she's good if you put her in attack mode (B+up). The final boss fight was pretty hard though since I played the game with a bot the whole way through the first time. I don't like how they made Jill blonde though. I wonder if this will be the last RE game now that (spoilers) is dead.

ya, poor (spoilers)

he seemed like such a blind mother on the ship though, shadows can defeat him when I sneak up on him with a shotgun? (maybe he shouldn't have those (spoilers) covering his eyes all the time)

I was all wow, just wow, what a NEWB!

I don't like how they made Jill blonde though.

agreed. When she was unmasked I didn't know who it was so I was like "was that supposed to be a twist?" Very poor choice (unless she was maybe blonde in the other games..... if so my eyes are broken)

still it's definatly not the last RE, Umbrella corporation may be gone but now that two timing _____ (three t's, if you've played the game you know the company) corp is still up and running, and they seem just as interested in BOW's

What do you mean by what happened to the horror? These zeds start off with axes, knives and blow darts. I was horrified once the zeds had guns. The gun is what separated the survivor from the zombies

I've never liked the idea of zombies with guns. Being on the same level as the zombies isn't very good, the point that they were dangerous without weapons such as guns is what creates horror. However, zombies are wielding guns now. So it turns into a bit of a shooter instead of survival horror.

When they had guns, I thought they were real people not Kijuju, so I ran in shooting shouting "I regret nothing!"

I can't believe I've never played RE2, it's just so damn hard to find, I'll be getting Umbrella Chronicles soon and when I do I'll have plyed all the main story RE's, apart from 2. I had a ard enough time finding RE3 and CV on Gamecube, but now that I have the original PS3 I guess I could just get it for PS1, or download it for PC.

I hate sheeva so much it took me 1 and a half hrs to beat (spoilers) because she wasted all her ammo shooting his non-weak point. Then she stands behind me emptying clips into my back..... plus didnt any of you see that animated re movie?

They are not zombie just people with parasites :O

Hey, it's a series, cant blame yourself

Needs to be played from beginning to end to truly understand the story

If you cant, look it up on wikipedia at the very least if you KNOW you will not play it

I completely understand the story, it's just I really want to play the game, I prefer the old style to the new, and I've heard RE2 is the best of them. I recently started playing REMAKE on hardest difficulty, it's bloody good.

I think the hardest puzzles were in the original RE. That could also be because that was the first game I picked up in the series (naturally) and I was very new to gaming at that point.

Zombies with guns... I'm torn on the issue. It makes for a more challenging game, but it really throws aside all we know about zombies. What happened to the brainless zombies that could only shuffle around and rip your limbs off? Now they can effectively operate firearms? Sheesh.

Old school zombies, ftw!

Easton Dark

Old school zombies, ftw!

YES, with this new OTS perspective and being able to shoot well moving and an option to enable/disable the laser sight + play as hunk= Instant and utter WIN

BTW: your lucky it's not spelled the same (I guess) because your name could be a spoiler for this thread

Im split on RE5. I played the last few chapters at a friends place on coop. That was so epic it feels boring to do the rest of it. It was like a scene from the Matrix. On the other hand the question "How the fuck did I get there" comes up.

I actually joined this forum before the game was released. I'll admit I had myself a bit of a laugh when I started playing 5. Strange coincidence, I guess.

And just so you know, it's the same word and same meaning, it just has many different ways to spell it. If you know what the word means, you'll realize why they used it in the game. :)

Oh, and kudos to you for noticing it. No one else has yet.

How the fuck did I get there

It's the secret temple, screws with ya MIND! and makes the game way to short

Booyah!!! and yes I know the meaning.

It's a great one, probably my second favorite, aside from Code Veronica.

I liked RE1 the best. It had the best puzzles. And made you walk in circles for hours before you found what you were looking for. The NGC remake was amazing.

HM HM HM! DARKSIDE CHRONICLES WHAT?!?!?!?!

Yes, they are returning to the rail gun arcade shooters with a new beautiful rendition of RE 2, Code Veronica, and a new chapter with everyone's favorite rookie cop, Leon Kennedy in South America. The graphics are beautiful, it sounds like a greater Umbrella Chronicles...

Not only that, but Nintendo is also releasing remakes of what is definately the GC Remake of RE1 and RE0 for the Wii with Wiimote controls and everything... Look for both late summer, I believe.

AND YES! I AM NOT DEAD! :D

BTW, if anyone plays RE5: What's your highest rank in anything? I looked online, and found that I am within the top 1500 players in the scores for the Mercenaries on XBOX Live for the Experimental Facility level... BSAA Jill is the easiest (and best!!!) character to use... Why does everyone use tribal Sheva... ???

Resident Evil: Archives is the name of the RE1 and 0 remakes. Nintendo isn't making it, Capcom is.

I still hate how they treat Nintendo's community. Shitty ports like Dead Rising, on-rails shooters that are everywhere, and ports from the gamecube, that can still be played on a Wii.

Ummmm... I don't have great internet. I cannot. However, it is true: Look on G4.com for it, and I read it in two previous Nintendo Powers, soooooo... Yeah. Sorry, no linkage. :(

IE Frito: yeah, that's the name. And Capcom releases it, I know, but it comes out on the Wii... You know... It's midnight here, I'm tired... :)

port has every content that has ever been in RE 1 and im not sure what extra stuff is in RE0 bt the rumor of pointer controls might be false. The japaneese port of 0 is a straight port but thir were rumors of it being redown with the new controls as well as RE1. But G4 claims in their demo htat ther is not

linkmelee1993

They're probably new controls... On the wiimote. With the nunchuck and what not... I can see having plenty of difficulty with pointer controls. What's the point in the old RE games? I mean, you aim where you look... No pointing required.

IDK about the bad voice acting. lol. Try getting the old versions if you want that. They're also available on PSN for download (well, the original, anyways) and MGS will be toooooooo!!!! Yay!!!!!
