View Full Version : one healthpack per person?
basic

i was watching the gameinformer videos again, and i noticed that at the end of the 2nd and beginning of the third videos, louis runs into the checkpoint room second. he grabs a healthpack, heals himself than grabs another healthpack before the fourth person gets to the table. so louis basically took half the healthpacks in the checkpoint, and to top it off, he didn't get a demerit or anything.
does anyone know if that's how it's supposed to be, or wouldn't it make more sense to allow each person only one healthpack per checkpoint?
i mean, if you could grab two of them, then its gonna be a mad dash to the table for medkits which kinda causes the whole co-op thing to disappear at that point in the game because once ppl know they are near the checkpoint, everyone's gonna ignore each other and race to the medkits.
thoughts?

they're supposed to work together. If one person dies, more will die. Otherwise they're just traitors. That gives you a good reason to earn a friendly fire demerit.

The Hog.
A demerit issued to a player who selfishly uses a medkit when another player is worse off. To avoid getting this demerit, compare your health to the health of your team members. If any teammate has lower health than you or has blue health (means he/she is slowly dying), make sure that he/she uses his/her own healthpack or, if they do not have one, you give him/her your health pack.

im aware of both of those points, and the hog demerit is when u use a medkit when someone else has lower hp, not when you grab two medkits in a checkpoint.

I know. But what you fail to realize is that who has the health kits does not matter as long as all the healthkits are in the teams possession or have been used.
If PlayerA uses one then keeps another and PlayerB gets hurt later but has no health kit, playerA can give his kit to PlayerB.

But will playerA actually do that? We can only hope so.

Well yeah that's just common sense. If your team is more concerned with grabbing medpacks and healing themselves than splitting them up evenly and giving an extra to whoever needs healing the most, then you aren't playing with very good teammates. Besides, you can really only heal yourself up to ~80 hp. If you use another, you're wasting it. Unless no one was going to use it. It also seemed like 80 was the 'slope' that most of the heals stopped at. Not too sure exactly how it works.

thats a good point, but why would someone grab two medkits when they only intend to use one?
guess it does show important it will be to play with non-moron teammates

You move slower and eventually limp depending on your health.

Until Player A actually decides what to do with the med pack he's done nothing wrong. If he then manages to take some damage and uses it on himself when he needs it the most then what's the problem?
If another player takes damage soon after and he gives the health pack to that player, he's a true team player.
If he doesn't and uses the health pack on himself, as stated above, he gets a demerit.
If he chooses not to give the health pack and just holds onto it then he's a liability.
Let's get one thing straight :) He's none of the above simply by picking up a second med pack after using one on himself.
Let's face it; we're all going to suffer bad players in this game and probably on more than one occasion. But forcing players to only pick up one med pack at every check point is counter intuitive and could potentially end up ensuring someone still hogs a med pack anyway.
It wouldn't stop anything; if player A truly wanted to be an arse he'd just keep his med pack in any given situation, refusing to pass it on to a player in need.

I won't. I'm only playing survivors with my friends. I'll only pub as infected.

What happens if someone forgets to pickup up a medkit? IMO, that is worse than someone being greddy.

I wouldn't mind if someone forgot to pick up a kit, it would be BETTER than a greedy person. Heres why: they don't have a medkit.

I don't know about anyone else.... But I get the distinct feeling that this game isn't really going to allow players to live very long if they must use this many healthpacks...

hahah true, it would be satisfying enough to see the "Greedy" bastard get 0wn3d by a tank.

My only solution........... Leeroy Jenkins.

That's lame. Leeroy was never funny, and we certainly isn't now either. Perhaps if you're the age of 10 (at least mentally). Can't people just let the whole Leery shit die out?! It's so old and overused.
On topic:
To solve the problem, just simply check of the person has many "The Hog" demerits or check how many "Give away medkit" merits he has compared to the amount of others merits and votekick him if you don't like him. Or you could just simply go to another server.

When I said it, it wasnt meant to be funny. I dont know if you know or not, but "Leeroy Jenkins" is the words for a Rush and kill strategy. Some use it as in, "Ok we are out of ammo so lets leeroy their asses." I didnt mean it to be funny, I used it in the term that some others use it now.

I think there are infinite health packs at check points, same with rifles. In another video it shows people using health packs, and when they're leaving everyone has a healthpack except one guy, and there was on on the table.
I think the idea is to have everyone ready, so there's no point in limiting health packs.
hooray for zombies

actually, there aren't. If you read the first part of the preview, it specifically mentions there being only 4 healthpacks and that they disappear when picked up.

Yeah, i thought that on the vids they show them keep picking up health packs. But if its not unlimited health packs..... then that would suck a bit

copy+pasting my BS scenario with medkit demerits
Well one thing that really.. well... got my attention was in one of the gameplay footages. When 3 of the players were low on health and only 1 had a med kit. He used his med kit and got a "Hog"(pig) demerit. Now that's fucked. I know generosity is nice 'n all, but that's just ridiculous.
I'm talking about CityStreets_Cam, @00:24. Zoey(12%) and Louis(none) are low, but don't have anymore medkits. Bill uses a medkit with about 25% health and brings him up to about 90%. He gets a demerit.
So what? You get a demerit if you use a medkit around people with lower health?(???!?... ???!!??!)
Not that I'm gonna flip my wig over it, it's just in the long run, it's just complete total BS. I can see it now;
A medkit hog, joins your game. He uses every medkit he can find and gets demerits up the ass. You and him are finally low on health, he has no medkits, you have yours. You use yours and get a demerit.
See?

Getting a hog demerit really isn't that big of a deal. Some Valve/TRS playtesters are huge hogs, others are great at giving away items.
L4D is a team based game. Medkits are best used when given to the person with the lowest health. The goal is to keep everyone a live and if one person is hogging medkits then he is not helping to keep everyone a live.
