you only really need one AR to snare the tank while you bait him, the rest are shotties, but i usually just pick up wtv the fuck I want cause I win so hard with any gun on any team :p

I agree with awdrgy123, I always watch to see what the rest take and then choose accordingly. Obviously this is in public games where everybody does what they want.

General rule I go by is shotgun in buildings and M16's when on the trail.

Never go for hunting rifle on expert, to easy to get snuck up on when in sniper mode and even common infected pack a punch.

Versus mode needs mostly shotguns so deal with sneaky tanks

I don't look at what people pick up (this is most likely a fault). I always grab the shotgun because I freaking love crowning the witch. There have been a couple of times when I've looked around and I'm like "Oh great, we all have shotguns."

I prefer M16 cause you hit infected from pretty far away (good for smokers or hunters) or you can just spray an area with fire (good when a boomer gets you or a horde comes) Plus the accuracy helps me get head shots on the tank from a relatively safe distance, which helps take the tank down quicker. Its good to always have one guy with a shotgun for crowning or close corners crowd control.

I think it varies with each map though. Like say you're on a map with a lot of narrow corridors (such as No Mercy 4) then it would be good to have a hunting rifle when the hordes are forced into a fairly straight line (since the hunting rifle can kill two infected with one bullet due to penetration).

How about explosives? I prefer pipe bombs because it draws the hordes away from your team and theres a smaller chance of friendly fire. What type of explosives do people prefer?

Head shots on the Tank do not do more damage than body shots.

Guys, you do it all wrong. Just melee the whole time. When a tank comes throw a molotov and run. Don't even need to fire any shots.

supposedly 1 h. rifle 1 autoshotty and 2 assault rifles would be the best combo for boss sniping, close-range rush stopping, and balanced.

However, I say the Shock Combo is the best. Yes, Left 4 Dead needs the shock combo, I'd love to see zombies get pulled into the explosion XD

Depends on level. Is this is versus, usually just autoshotties, because by then your in the hospital or sewers. Running effortlessly through hordes and raping hunters mid-air with the shotty is amazing.

If we the guns early on NM3, I'll take the assault rifle because sometimes precision is needed outdoors. Same with BH. I don't trust other people's aim to shoot smokers and hunters from afar.

I beg to differ.

But a real man uses pills to beat the crap out of the living dead.... or neurologically infected.

yea how could u not use that combination? Anyone who doesnt use all autoshottys is probably not going to perform as well as the other team :/

I've found that autoshotty works well for VS, but mixing in the occasional HR or AR in bloodharvest VS maps can really be effective against smokers, and perched hunters trying to line up that big pounce. Also, because of the HR bullet penetration, you can quickly free a pinned/smoked teammate from very far away, even if you're trapped in a horde, just by firing a few shots or one good HS, saving precious health of your teammate that would have been lost during the time it might take you to run over and free them using melee. And as a bonus, the boss that had your teammate is dead and you don't have to worry about finishing them off before they can regroup and attack.

In expert campaign, more then 2 AS doesn't work very well. It is important to have a balance of weapon strengths so that your team spends less time fighting the infected up-close. Also, the more AS's you have, the more likely it is for teammates to collect collateral damage from the spray.

Doesn't matter, all you'll be doing is meleeing anyway.

Seriously, they did a bunch of tests; it doesn't matter where you hit him.

autoshotty would be best since it lets you rush. Shoot ahead, melee behind and power through entire hordes while still running ahead. If a boss requires more precision, use your pistols.
