Wow, thats a pretty random spec!
You've thrown money away on crap in some places, and then skimped on vital parts in others!
Ok, with a budget of $1,000 I'd get this:
Motherboard:
GIGABYTE GA-P35C-DS3R LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Intel Motherboard
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N8 2E16813128048 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128048) -$160.00
Processor:
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Kentsfield 2.4GHz 2 x 4MB L2 Cache LGA 775 Processor $290.00
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N8 2E16819115017 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115017)
Can be overclocked to 3ghz stable (even if you're not into overclocking, hardly need it with 2.4ghz and quad core!)
RAM:
Crucial Ballistix 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - $110.00
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N8 2E16820146565 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820146565)
Graphics card:
XFX PVT80GGHF4 GeForce 8800GTS 320MB 320-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported HDCP Video Card - $280.00
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N8 2E16814150171 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150171)
Now, provided you won't be running a resolution higher than 1600x1200, this card is great. Any higher and I'd recommend the 640mb GTS version ($100 more)
Sound card: do you really need one? Personally, on board sound is fine, unless you have some amazing 5:1 dolby home cinema speaker setup going on.
Hard disk:
Western Digital Caviar RE WD1600YS 160GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive -$60 (personally, think about getting two of these) ($120)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N8 2E16822136062 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136062)
CD/DVD drive, something like this:
LITE-ON Black 20X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 8X DVD+R DL 20X DVD-R 6X DVD-RW 12X DVD-RAM 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-R 32X CD-RW 48X CD-ROM 2MB Cache SATA DVD Burner - Retail $32.00
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N8 2E16827106057 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827106057)
Total: $1001.00 including 2 hard discs! (probably work out very slightly less as I rounded all the prices UP)
As for a mouse, I'd recommend the mx518 (logitech gaming mouse) as thats the one I use :D but its entirely up to you really, read reviews of mice and see what gets good comments.
Keyboard... meh, do you really need an illuminated keyboard?
Monitor... Now there's a can of worms... get reading reviews of them, google 19" monitors and find out what to look for and what to avoid. The one you posted is using 'false' figures, its 2ms response time is measured differently compared to other ones, as is the 3000:1 contrast, but it may still be a good monitor.

Cooler Master Ammo 533 Black/Silver ATX Mid-Tower (LINK (http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1784272&Sku=C283-1112))
XFX MB-N590ASH9 Motherboard
AMD Athlon 64 FX-62 2.80GHz (like AMD more than Intel - past three comps i built were AMD)
Kingston Hyper X DDR2 PC6400 1024mb x4 (4gb total)
XFX GeForce 8600 GT Fatal1ty 256MB (x2 for SLI)
and 2 Seagate 250MB HDDs
Thats my new Project - I want to go with the 8600 more than the 8800s because A - Im on a budget and B - In about 6months the Next Gen DX10 cards will be out and I wont be so far in the hole from buying 8800GTS that I can buy a midgrade Gen2 and be good.
I'm also saving money by using my old CD-R, DVD, Monitor, Keyboard, etc.

It would have been MUCH more expensive if it was bought in Sweden, since the prices in Sweden is much higher. If I'd bought a certain graphics card in America, it would cost me about 3900 Swedish KR, and if I bought it in Sweden it would cost about 5600 swedish KR. Same thing applies to clothing, it's more expensive in Sweden. I really need to order stuff from American websites <.<

pretty much agree with tecnoby, some good recommendations there.
but.quad core ? no need imho...
duals not even implemented properly yet and wont be for a long time unless your doing cad,vid encoding it makes no sense to go quad unless your after enlarging your e-penis. save your money for some 1066 ram. or spend it on the PSU.
(i run a 6800 quad at work and a 6600 dual at home and i do cad,vid encoding and game as much as i can so i can compare the 2 side by side)
Now.....
OS ?
no need to go vista yet (not till sp1 is out anyway) its the lindsay lohan of operating systems at the moment, pretty but expensive to run and more than a little fucked up. xp does all you need and has loads of backup plus all the drivers you want and it works.do not go XP64 bit... seriously if you want that just put it in your sig but DONT PUT IT ON YOUR MACHINE.its got less support end even less implimentation in games/apps it not worth the hassle. people will try to turn your eye with 'better support for more mem' dont listen ... 2 gig is enough for games.
as for a backlit kb ive got the g15 and i fucking love it... get one...

Simple reasons really, the price is really good, games are now being written to make use of mulitple cores - crysis, bioshock, l4d etc. No harm in future proofing :D
Vista... mixed opinions... its more system intensive than xp, but thats not a problem on a decent spec'd system. You'll need vista to run dx10 games anyway.
I dual boot with xp & vista, my system is mainly used for gaming, and although i get slightly higher FPS with xp, I prefer vista overall. It does depend though what you'll be using the computer for though, as there are quite a few programs/software that have issues with it.

That's a thing I don't understand. Why future proof something that drops in value so fast? That's just stupid. It's better to wait until you really need it and THEN buy it and save lots of money.

Yeah, and most of them are video / audio related. By this I mean things like Divx arent fully compatible yet. I had trouble ripping streaming audio from a website ( whereas I had no problem with XP ), I do some DVD converting too, and the software I use for that doesnt work with Vista.
I just havent got round to installing XP for dual booting yet, but every week that passes it becomes more apparent that is the only answer.
I like Vista, just wish it was more compatible.............

Because the price is cheap enough now to make it a good buy, its useful from the moment its bought and I can't see any reason why it can't be running games at max for the next two years.(this is purely in regard to the quad core processor in the link i posted, I do agree with your point though in most situations)

Most of the brands you mentioned teknobry I've never heard of. I like ATI more than NVidea. I guess I wouldn't really need a sound card so that would cut off some of the fat. I also won't need a lot of hard drive space. The one I have right now is really small I think. Properties says it's capacity is 37.5G. What I'm really stuck on is motherboard and processor. Right now my processor is 1.8GHz, and I can't really tell the difference from one motherboard to another except for its compatibility with other stuff.

Erm, mate pretty much all the brands I've mentioned are the dogs b0ll0cks mate. No sh*tty cheap crap, but quality hardware. The fact you've not heard of them could be due to your limited hardware knowledge possibly?
Motherboard choice is vital, buy a crappy one and you'll be limiting yourself alot. The one I've posted is compatible with the new p35 chipset, it can take DDR2 and the new DDR3 RAM, which isn't common yet but will be taking over in the next 12months. Its perfect for overclocking as the bios allows you to alter pretty much everything. In short its a great motherboard that will last years and support future hardware upgrades.
The processor I posted, its damn good, quad core, fast and overclockable.

imho (which btw issnt worth shite) im agreeing with tecknobry althoug i would consider the themaltake soprano for a case its under your 100 budget quiet as a mouse and a top case to boot.....myself ? ive got the antek 900, more fans than a cross channel hovercraft noisy as owt but by christ it keeps things cool
if you can pimp yourself round the local bars for a few quid aswell and as you have said your HD space requirements are no that large... spoil yourself... get a raptor. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N8 2E16822136011go (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136011go) duo and you could afford it i think ;) ... like Teknobry says its only a small price difference between dual and quad but that money could be spent on the extra rpm which is usable right now... not in the future.

Pretty much all you install on a 10k RPM HDD is your OS and your games. Anything you need kickass read speeds for. Things like Photoshop and MP3s go on your "normal" harddrive that should be close to 250GB. That is how my new computer is going to be - one 10k and 2 250s
Teknobry
08-30-2007, 10:55 AM
Personally, I'd rather wait an extra 30 seconds for bf2 to load up than spend $200 on one 150gb hard disk.
Not doubting that its great, but spending 1/5 of an entire pc build budget on one disk it OTT, especially as the money could be spent on CPU and/or GPU, and would have a much greater overall effect.

that may be true ive never had a hard drive fail on me once its up and running ive had 2 or 3 be faulty on delivery (one after the other unusually must have been a fualt in production) and they were all seagate ata'a and that was about 8 years ago. ive been using raptors for my work machines for longer than i can remember now...never had one fail.
but your right that you should look at failure rate when considering anything.
did i mention the have side window in so you can see the little bugger working ? pop em next to your side window and they look well nice.
as for you headphone comments ive got an 11 month old son and the only time i get to game is when he goes to bed and therefore headphones are the way to go to keep the noise down.... ive got a set of medusa'a and im very happy with them. no the best sound quality in the world but very comfy.

The link to the video card (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N 8 2E16814150171) doesn't work so should I look for another?

Maybe you should read the rest of the thread, rather than just the first post....

I hate bringing this topic back up again, but I'm just looking through all of the stuff to make sure everything works with everything and the mother board info says
"4 x 1.8V DDR2 DIMM sockets supporting up to 8 GB of system memory" and the memory I picked out isn't the right voltage, if it even matters because I don't know. I'm looking on newegg at 1.8v memory and all the prices seem too low to be any good.
I'm also a bit concerned about the case. It sounds pretty loud in this video which I looked up after reading some reviews complaining that it's loud. http://youtube.com/watch?v=eymU4mp9Fh4

Which RAM did you pick out? It seems you chose this one:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N8 2E16820134117 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820134117)
which is 1.8v. So no problem there.
Can't help you on the case I'm afraid, you're just gonna have to google search to find recommended ones. I'll have a quick scan myself though.

Doh. I did the guided search on newegg for 1.8V and it didn't come up.

I'm 90% sure it just means you cant use DX10, but will still work with DX9.

If I bought some of the stuff on eBay it would cost a bit less, is it reliable and worth it enough to get the stuff from eBay?
Like the 8800GTS
