So I'm buying a new processor and more RAM for my computer, and maybe a new video card. My mother board is socket 939 and I have my RAM sorted out. I've looked around, and I've found that AMD makes their AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ 2.2Ghz processor for 939's. I've also found them being sold for as low as $75, which makes me unsure as I bought my AMD Athlon 64 3500+ 2.2Ghz processor for $90 last year. Is it safe to buy this processor, or can anyone recommend a better dual core 939 for around $200? Also, anyone have a good PCI-E video card that won't break the bank but is better than my current ATI Radeon X1300 Pro by a significant amount? Thanks guys, sometime in the future my computer will be up to date yay huzah!

I`d look into the price of a Q6600 - quad core. They are not much dearer than a dual core now. I hope to get one soon, but Bioshock still runs fine on max with my E6600 dual core. May wait till Crysis before I get the quad.
This place is becoming like a tech support forum lately ! lol!

Well, I'm not sure if I want to blow more $ on a new Mobo for Quad, but if I buy a new Mobo I am getting an AM2 3.0Ghz one, because it's only $169 which is great

Whats your current motherboard & PSU?
How much you looking to spend altogether?
Will be able to give you more options with the above info.

Eh I'm actually nowhere near my computer right now, but my Mobo is a $50 BioStar with PCI-E and four PCI slots, 4 RAM slots, socket 939, and I'm pretty sure my PSU is a 450W not extremely high quality one, but it has run my current med/high end gaming comp fine for almost one year. I can buy a new one if needed. I'm thinking I want to spend maybe $300 dollars, but if I need $350 for your ideas, I can go that high.

I went from a A64 3500+ to a X2 3800+. It only set me back $79..and it was a worthy upgrade.
EDIT: X2 3800 939's go for only $58 on www.newegg.com (http://www.newegg.com)

For 939 cpus the 4200 is a really good deal. All the higher x2 athlons are fairly hard to find nowadays, and most of the other, faster, 939 cpus like the opterons are more geared towards overclocking. If you go AM2 there are some really good deals right now, especially the 6000, which is on pace with many of the core 2 duos.
For video cards the x1300 is kinda on the low end of gaming graphics so there's a lot of cards that will give you good performance increases. Some good ones are the 7600GT, 7900GS, and the x1950PRO/ 7950GT, in that order. If you want to compare and see what kind of performance increases you'll get, the Tom's Hardware benchmarks are really an essential tool when upgrading a cpu or video card(http://www23.tomshardware.com/graphics.html).

IS this an ok video card? Lower RAM but hey it's DX 10 and nVidia series 8...
So the 4200+ is a good 939 dual core? Reliable?
EDIT: So if I go from 2.2Ghz to 2.2Ghz Dual is the performance difference substantial and worth the $80?

Personally, I'd go for a high end dx9 card than a middle of the road dx10 card. You'll notice much better performance, plus hardly any games are dx10, and you'll need windows vista to use it as well. The ones miguel listed are good.

Idiot, I don't think it takes someone 10 days to do a quick Google, show some consideration.
