I didn't put this in the resident evil 5 thread cause in the end it has to do with hardware failure (360).

IF YOU DON'T WANT TO READ MY STORY, JUST GO TO THE BOTTOM

ok so I got Resident evil 5 the Friday that it came out. I was originally gonna play all the way through it on co-op with my brother, but he was in Mexico for spring break and got really sick from the food (no humor intended)

so I played through the first 2 and a half chapters with a friend of mine on splitscreen, but now he doesn't want to play any further (I happen to have the only friends on earth that don't like Resident Evil).

So I try to invite any one of my live friends whenever one is on RE5, but it gives us BS about "the game has been cancelled" when every we try to join one another's game. (dre is one of them, he knows).

So whatever, I guess I'll just have to play single player with Sheva at my side. Right in the middle of a long chapter (3-1, where you drive the boat to all the different destinations to get the pieces that open a door) my xbox keeps freezing up on me, so at about the 7th try over a few days because of college finals (I never died, it would just keep freezing before I finished. O, and it's on Veteran so it is hard) I finally get to 3-2. I get past the execution ground until this part (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-qghz1lzo2U).

At this point one of my long time friends I haven't seen in a while comes over to play. He's BAD at video games, and also has two broken hands (casts) so he dies A LOT, and I mean A LOT! but I'm not gonna hurt his feelings and just say "you watch me play" lol. so anyway, after like 4 or 5 tries at this part (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-qghz1lzo2U)
we finally kill both chainsaw dudes and turned the valves, and are heading on the way out, when the horde of guys come around the corner (at about 6:50 in the video) I turn around cause I have to reload, and BAM! the last chainsaw guy is right there doin his craaazy swinging and I'm dead (didn't know they came back). So that was this last Friday night.

On saturday, we tried again, and FINALLY killed both chainsaw dudes, plus the people, and RIGHT as the screen was saying "saving...Saving...Saving..." my xbox fucking freezes" we try again. RED RINGS OF DEATH!!!!! O NOZE!

this has been happening for a while but I've just been using the towel trick (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=avWs4-wD15w) for the last month or so,and it's been fine, until now.

So I finally decided that I've had it, and I buy the tools (small screwdrivers, heatsink glue stuff, etc.) and research ways to fix the RROD. for about 2 or 3 hours Saturday we completely take apart my Xbox, every little peace, and use the "penny fix (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wsz0lNJ6JrQ&feature=related)". It worked the rest of Saturday night, as I was at a friend's Birthday party, my other brother happily played call of duty, and it worked fine.

I get home later that night, pop in RE5, and pick the memory as my Hard Drive (you know how it always asks before going to the main menu) but now, after that it says "failed to load files". I tried restarting my xbox, taking off the HD and putting it back on, but it can't find my saved games.

So I think I got fucked over when it froze in the middle of "saving..." on Friday, and lost my saved files. Also, now my xbox FOR SURE doesn't work (RROD), and I can't send it in/get a new one cause It has a cool looking mod on it.

SO IN SHORT, IF YOU DIDN'T READ ALL THAT

does anyone with an xbox have experience in fixing your 360? or know the most fullproof way that will fix it for GOOD

I'm sorry, I'm just a HUGE RE fan since the first, and it's killing me

it sounds like you messed up royally in your repair attempt, voiding your warranty and probably shitting static discharge all over your hard drive while you were at it.

protip: buy a new console from best buy, get their warranty. they'd still let you replace your console even if it was two bricks in a box.

my warranty was over with a while back back, plus it was modded a while ago so it would've been voided then anyway.

I can easily un-do what I did in my first repair attempt, just take out the pennies and put Microsoft's squishy pads back in.

I just need the REAL way to fix it (I just feel like the solution should be floating around on the internet somewhere)

I appreciate the tip, one of my friends has also got like 3 new consoles from BestBuy without a problem. I just don't really have $3-400 and mine is modded so I'm trying to stay with this one as much as I can.
thx though

Check out craigslist, in my area there are a ton of technicians that will repair it for you for about 40 TOPS. They do a good job too.

Generally RRoD is unfixable. And microsoft's "fix" is, RRoD, hmm... heres a refurb xbox for you. Ship back.

Ive gotten the RRoD on two different systems (im on my third, and I dont expect it to last much longer). Each time it went to MS for repair, the serial number changed somehow at each "fix". Hmm... microsoft certainly didnt just go "hmm... RRoD... hardware dead... heres a refurb xbox for you." Ship back. and then scavenge mine for working parts to build the next person's RRoD'd xbox.

Remember, the cause of the RRoD is hardware failure. And just like the mini-computer that it is. Once the hardware dies. Its dead. If you were interested in fixing it, just like a computer, it would be to replace that which is dead, which is probly just as expensive or more so than buying a refurb one from gamestop or bestbuy or whoever.

edit: Furthermore, even though your warranty expired, if it had not been voided by modding (why mod an xbox??), that only means the repair isnt free. They charge something like 2/3 the cost of a refurb to fix it.

1. Cover Xbox with Aluminum Foil
2. Cover Xbox with Dry, Warm Towels
3. Keep Xbox on for 3 days
4. ??????
5. Pretty sure it melts the insides SO MUCH that it fixes it.

Insted remove the fan(funny lookin box) and it will think it has over heated, which does the same thing as above, except the melting part. or...

google it! there is a few ways. You can turn it off with the visuals unplugged, wait a few seconds, turn it on and you'll get a few days untill it breaks again, or buy a new motherboard and replace the fried one, since that is the cause of rrod.
I've had three so far, finally bought a refurbished on on ebay with a third party warrenty. they willgive me back what I paid for it if it breaks in the next two years. Try buying a square trade warrenty when you get a new one. I only paid 20 bucks for the two year coverage.

Watch out if you're gonna get a 'professional' to fix it, check out their shop on google on websites other than there own for customer feedback; you would be astounded by how many of them just charge £40 (I guess about $70 - $80) for a 2 day fix, then refuse to give money back etc. The whole RRoD business is well known outside gaming circles, so just watch out for people trying to exploit your predicament for a quick buck.

If that doesn't work,

1. Cover Xbox with Aluminum Foil
2. Cover Xbox with Dry, Warm Towels
3. Keep Xbox on for 3 days
4. Put in microwave, set to 5 minutes on highest setting.
5. Add some peels at 2:30.
6. ??????
7. Pretty sure it melts the insides SO MUCH that it fixes it.

uh... do this, especially the bits I added.

Also, PRO TIP: next time don't mod it or try to fix it; just give it to microsoft and wait the 3 weeks. And unless you've had your 360 for over 3 years, the warrenty wouldn't have expired for RRoD (excluding all the horrible shit you did to it).

If the system gets shut off during a Save Time, the game files are corrupted and will not work. This happened to me with Guitar Hero a year or so back. I would ask if you are able to retrieve other game files but it sounds like you're still Rick Rrod..

If you get the system back up, delete the RE5 files and it should work

thanks for all the tips (real and fake *cough darkmessiah*)

but the funniest thing, it randomly works tonight! it's like in Scooby Doo when the painting's eyes move, but when someone comes to help, they go back to normal and it makes Scoob look like a lying douche....and I'm scoob.

well anyway, lets see how long it lasts this time...

My first Xbox did that. It RRoD'd me, then worked next day. I mine lasted somewhere between 1 day and 1 week, I dont remember. But best of luck to you.
