Well wanted to make a post about this but i Build a new computer for a friend like last week it all went well here is part list

Case: Antec 1200
PSU: Silverstone DA1000W PSU 12v rail at 80 amps

CPU: Q9400 Overclocked to 3.2ghz http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a209/goldkills/CPUtemptest.png (http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a209/goldkills/CPUtemptest.png)
dont look at the temps in the picture b/c i f'ed up on the CPU compound (did not take off the sticker... the temps are way lower after i took it off and fixed it)

Motherboard: Evga 780I FTW
Ram: Corsair Dominator DDR 1066 with fan
Heatsink :Xigmatek 1283 HDT cooler runs at 25c and about 50 at load lol
Video card: GTX 295 Will have some benchmarks later for this for L4D, TF2, Farcry 2, and CoD5

the computer took me about 7 hours to build and about 2 more to install windows Vista 64bit and drivers but i am going to be finishing the build today by installing the GTX295 (have a 8600GT in it right now lol) and running some tests also i hope to get some pictures later to show it off.
and so far the total for this build was about 1700$-1800$ not bad due to the GTX295 (527$) lol

70 C is not the boiling point for CPUs? I keep mine at 36 C.

Update ran tests on GTX295 here
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a209/goldkills/vanttest.png (http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a209/goldkills/vanttest.png) it gets about 140FPS in L4D all maxed out at 1680x1050 with 4xAA 16xAF and about 60 FPS on Farcry 2 maxed out 4xAA not bad if i say my self.

Wow, really that low? on my 4870 512mb, i get between 50 to 100+ fps on 1920x1080, 4xAA (or 8x or whatever max is) and 16x AF. Is the extra 300 bucks of card really worth it?

I can see what Darkness is saying, but just seeing those FPS makes me poop my pants anyway.

My compy gets 100-70 fps on All high, 8xAA, blah blah, but only 1024x768

Far Cry 2 Runs all max at about 30 fps, so 60 would be beautiful I bet.

well the Better CPU the better the FPS when it comes to a really high end card like the 295 the fact is i could not get a stable 3.8ghz OC on the CPU a higher overclock and better CPU would have helped, but my friend could not afford I7 at the time of when he started ordering parts if he had I7 i could have gotten it to 4ghz and gotten a easy 24k in vantage and about 160+fps in L4D and higher FPS in other games but good thing CoD5 got a 90FPS all the time could not get it to drop below that with anything i did lol. The GTX295 is not a push over card it is worth the 500$ it is the best card u can buy right now and playing a better SLI supported game will give better FPS but i did not have one handy at the time but, if u have a really good CPU and 500$ to get a video card get a GTX295

Good job on the build.

Protip: 160fps means nothing on an LCD monitor running at 60hz.

It's more fashion over function.

that is wrong u can see it its just you will have screen tearing but on most screens that are newish having a FPS over your Refresh rate is fine and wont have screen tearing. i did all the tests on a new Gateway 22in 60hz display and only had screen tearing when the FPS went over 200 when looking at a blank wall and moved a little.

Tearing is generally subjective. There are some mathematics involved that will produce more/less tearing depending on the make and refresh rates of the monitor and the FPS being generated by the graphics card. But otherwise it's mostly up to the viewer whether or not to perceive/tolerate the tearing.

The monitor is still running at 60hz. It does not decide to display half of the next image, somehow running at 90hz or something. Simply, the graphics card is churning out 120fps, is part way rendering the primary buffer (the tearing) when the monitor is done displaying it's frame (running at 60 FPS) so it retrieves that teared primary buffer. The 120 FPS, 160 FPS, or even 70 FPS are just being wasted in producing the half-teared frame. Maybe that half-teared frame is enough to fool your eyes, but all you will ever literally receive is 60 frames per second.

That said, there are some 120hz LCDs out there though it seems like most of them are televisions.

Ya the 120Hz LCD TV/displays are cool they also can use Nvidias 3d glasses.

Mine gets about 60-70 on maxed with 16xAF and 4xAA at 1280x1024, maybe Im doing something wrong...

On Far Cry 2 mine gets about 40 fps nearly maxed with no AA at 1280x1024 on DirectX 10, sometimes dipping 30 fps range.

My rig: Intel C2D E8400 3 GHz
Nvidia 9800GT
3 gigs of RAM

meh

Very nice specs. I don't know how many times I've said mine on this forum, the epitome of mid-class.

Build me one?
Haha :D
Looking cool, that my PC would be great with that graphics card, using a 9800 gt right now. Runs games max, but i'll keep it till I start slowin down on future game ;)
