We did see flamethrowers used in 28WL. It is something that the military would probably use, when those people go down with them then guess who gets to grab one! =P Perfectly logical that they would be found in a L4D type setting, IMO at least.

And yes, VALVe is very good about keeping their games current and interesting.

A very valid point. I hadn't really considered that but I'm sure that Valve did consider it, and that is why there won't be one.

IMO that would be a reason to include it. You have to admit this would be awesome:

"STAND BACK FEEBLE BEINGS!!!"
Someone steps in front of them with a flamethrower and burns the horde to shit.

But the grievers would ruin it, just like they ruin everything else.

But it could be incorporated realistically if it was something like a lighter and can of deoderant.

Just because theres grievers doesn't mean you should not want any new guns. It's been a long time since ive last seen a griever and even if you get a griever the auto shotgun will still be worse then the flame thrower for team killing [as it usually happens in safe room or something [close range] and they'd probably had to have found a weapon pile for the flame thrower]

What would the flamethrower be set as? It cant be secondary or it will have to replace the pistols, making it harder for you to save teammates if there was smoker or a hunter farther than close range. It cant be primary since it will need a large ammo capacity. If the capacity is small it might discourage use when there's no ammo piles for a while. And besides, flame damage barely mounts on infected like witches and tanks, maybe even the other special infected.

tl;dr version: It's not gonna happen.

If there was a flamethrower, as Nuttz said, it would probably have to be an arisol can and some matches (My favorite!). Equally awesome, though, would be a mounted flamethrower, like the minigun, so the only person's fault for Friendly Fire would be the idiots who stand in the way, or go in front of the stream. A portable Thrower is probably not going to be seen.
