Fortress Forever mod > TF2

TF2 is a pubnoob friendly game. A shame to the name of TeamFortress

Fortress Forever mod > TF2

GTFO, TF2 > FF

FF is a bunny hopping nade spamming friendly game, a shame to any game that even claims to have 'graphics'

Sadly the only thing good about FF is the other game modes.

I found that hilarious because in actual fact, TF2 is a NON-bunny hopping nade spamming friendly game designed for noobs so that masses of people buy into it.

Yah its super not cool to like the mainstream, mainstream sucks.

Just curious, have you played either of these games? Not knocking your opinion, just want to know if your opinion is worth a damn.

I've played TFC but never properly in a competitive team and i haven't ever played TF2 but that shouldn't be a surprise, i have however close friends who have competed for National Teams in TFC who have 'educated' me on how much of a failure TF2 will be for competitive team play.

Fortress Forever mod is being made by old school TFC die hards and doesn't plan to take out any of the skill in the game for the sake of attracting more players. This story is abit like cs1.6, cs:source and cspromod and also similar events taken place in the Quake series.

Developers dumbing down games in the competitive and professional aspects for the sake of maximizing player interest isn't an uncommon event in game developing, in fact its becoming more frequent. Its now come to the point that major gaming tournaments are developing their own games specifically designed for competitive play.

Competitive gamers like your friend ruin games in some ways. All they want is balance, a level playing field, if Devs. cater to these people, it will limit the creativity of the game.

Here I was thinking games were supposed to be fun.

Shit. I've had it wrong for a long time.

So in other words, friends who have played a game have gone on about their opinion of two games they haven't played and now you're passing that on. I'm sure you're worried about nade jumping being removed, and these skills being streamlined into their respective classes to fix such failures as medics being the ideal flag runner. Be wary of changes, but don't assume they're for the worse. One can look forward to trying both or even enjoying both, otherwise you just sound like *gasp* fanboism (ugg I can't believe I said it)

Some people don't want their games to be only enjoyable by complete nerds. They are just trying to make a FUN game. Don't like it? Don't buy it. And why wouldn't this be good for competitive play? People can run around like idiots, kicking a ball into some goal and that's probably the biggest comptetitive game in the world. Only because the graphics are cartoony and they change a few things doesn't mean nerds can't have orgasms when they win their tournaments. Give the game a chance.

Every single time a competitive game experiences a new iteration, old skool players are whipped into a frenzy, predicting it will be the downfall of their "sport". It never fails. They rail against all things new and "improved", everything from minor map tweaks to major gameplay overhauls, long before anyone has had a chance to play. After all, their skills are ingrained, they know the game inside and out, and the thought of change is a terrifying prospect. It's always the same, it's the natural order of things.

There's actually an interesting article in the latest issue of Games for Windows, an interview with Paul Wedgewood (designer of Quake Wars), that touches on this very subject. He was a member of the #1 ranked TF clan in the UK. He relates his experience, when his clan attempted to make the move from TF to TFC:

""... I couldn't play TFC, because I was so used to the shape and size of Team Fortress ... we went into the TFC community saying we were the best TF clan ... we lost our fist game 6-nil, quit the server, and said Team Fortress Classic's a piece of s***! That wasn't what we thought ... it's just hard to make the move to the next generation."

I have formed my own views of the game based on what others have told me and my personal playing experience and Deek is right, changing games for the sake of attracting more players doesn't bode well in the competitive scene.

Everyone seems to think that I'm wrong for being open about my opinions and shared opinions through-out the entire competitive community.

Having said that i do believe TF2 will be a lot more competitive than TFC ever was mainly because of the amount of players it will attract, TFC died quite early due to the fact new players just couldn't catch up with the more senior players because of the way the game is designed.

Not to mention the fact that TFC tournament play was generally 8v8, getting a 5 man team to lan is hard enough let-alone an 8man. So that will probably change in TF2.

Well, I don't think change is bad. I simply think the competitive scene rarely reacts well to change.

The bottomline is, no one can accurately predict how change will effect the experience, without first experiencing the change.

Regardless of whether change is for the better, I guarantee, long after StarCraft2 is released, there will be people who continue to play the original StarCraft with righteous zeal, insisting that the Protoss Mothership has destroyed the franchise. It's unavoidable.
