View Full Version : Why the kick for no mic/being in a party?!

Seriously, I usually am in a party with my friends when I am on live, so I can't hear what the other team mates want to say. Anyway, if I am not in a party I just turn my mic off. Its so obvious when stuff is going to happen in the game due to the subtitles, music, or just listening to the sounds in general, that this game requires no communication. hell it shows up as neon red and plays "ooga booga" music when someone is in trouble. Mic are unnecessary in this game, yet i seem to get kicked from campaign or versus....

The reason people kick you is because they feel like your a so-called "noob" without a mic. They think that since you cant speak to other people about the game, they will suggest you know less about it. To fix this problem, start using your mic. I know you said about the ingame sounds and stuff but at least say "hello" when you enter. I hope this helps you and the other people who will read this.

Why would I leave a party of my friends to go and talk to some idiots for 50 minutes? L4D isn't that hard.

That attitude is probably not going to help you anyway. By chance, are you playing on Xbox Live? I have a friend who refuses to play with anyone without mics, and for good reason too. XBL doesn't even give the option for text chat, so without a mic, you're completely mute and thus can't strategize. You essentially become a bot that can't aim as well.
Your attitude of "I don't talk to morons." suggests to me that even if you used your mic, you'd simply berate your teammates instead of work with them. So why not try to use your mic and give pugs a chance? You might find yourself surprised. Most of my current friends are from pugs :)

I cannot stand mic-less people, I have had countless times, when I have been pounced, incapped, or anything else that makes me helpless, and the mic less person, just stands there and keeps shooting at stuff, and not helping the team what-so-ever. Last time I played with someone in a party, he did not notice that we jumped down the hole in NM3, and was strangled, and when we proceded to kick him, he yelled at us that he was in a party, and it was his fault his noob ass died because we were yelling at him to jump down for a good 30, but as you know he was in a party. So for reasons because of that, I kick mic less people.

No. That is not what I meant. You said when you weren't in parties when it also happened as well. That is what I was explaining. Why don't you play Left 4 Dead with your friends in the party instead of playing with random people?
I didn't mean to sound like whatever I did to you. Please, I don't take anything from unruly people. I was just giving advice.

Mics are a necessity for this game. Plain and simple.

Why play a team based game where strategy is necessary if you arent going to communicate with your teammates? Talk to your friends on the phone if you love them so much. What are you a woman?
Its so obvious when stuff is going to happen in the game due to the subtitles, music, or just listening to the sounds in general, that this game requires no communication.......
This is PARTIALLY true when you are a survivor. BUT, how are you suppose to work together and strategize as infected when you wont talk to the people you are playing with? You should just stick to campaign if you want to be a mute. I never thought I would hear anyone say this game requires no communication. You must be a halo-fag. You want to go 1v1 while were at it?
Ill kick anyone without a mic, without hesitation, as will most everyone else. This is a team based game that requires plenty of communication. I dont know how you cant see that. Put your damn mic in and maybe you will learn a thing or two and you might also have a little more fun and make some friends who actually play the game you want to play.

1st off, Halo does require some talking. Secondly there isn't anything i really don't know about left 4 dead. Ive had it since release. Communication isn't necessary when the game does it for you.

Lol... just go somewhere else Sir God who knows everything about l4d, but clearly you contradict yourself if you think you need more communication in halo than in l4d. Oops... guess you dont know everything after all...
You need communication for when you get pounced, so you can say "boomer on the roof" or "boomer behind this wall" or "im smoked" etc etc.

When you are playing team swat in Halo, or team tactical in COD5/COD4 you need to talk. L4D pretty much explains itself. Anyway, why say "boomer on the roof" why not just shoot it? Secondly, smokers become painstakingly obvious when they spawn and stalk you, just stay out of open areas and or shoot it if you can. If you get caught, 10/10 says your teammates will notice, you turn bright orange on screen and there is text which spawns in the middle of the screen.

Dude, you are a failure on so many levels it isnt funny.
1. Saying halo requires talking but l4d doesnt is just flat out the dumbest thing I have ever heard.
2. Just because you can see outlines doesnt solve every problem. Take for example what darkness is trying to say for an example. Also, can you see the outlines when you are boomed on so you can attempt to help teammates when you cant see? Oh thats right, you cant. Also, you are acting like the game gives you "everything you need" just because it gives you small cues.
3. And this is the best reason for your absolute failure. Here goes.....
You thought you were going to start this thread and everyone was gonna be like "dude, you are so right. I hate people like that. There so lame. Your so awesome for pointing out all the people who are douches and dont want to play with no-mic'ers." Instead you were slapped in the face with the reality of the fact that people dont really want to play with no-mic'ers ( at least most people dont, others just tolerate it). So why dont you either get a grip on reality and plug your mic in OR stfu and dont post fail threads.

Ah... oops... thats what I get for skimming

then this is epic fail... if you have a mic why not use it? It cant hurt anything? If you hear a boomer, say boomer there and shoot at it. It doesnt take alot of extra effort or anything and it may just save you from being boomed on. It is a TEAM game. thus you should act like a TEAM and not an island. If you dont want to act like a team, then deal with being kicked by those who are looking for people who want to play as a team.

I don't use a mic in L4D (yet) and i haven't (yet) but I can't agree with what you're saying at all. For most games I've been pretty much against using a mic because coordination and teamwork were not that important, but in L4D you have to be able to communicate.
You are probably the same kind of person who doesn't stay with the team then gets mad when a hunter gets you and the team can't see you to save your ass.
I will be hooking up my mic soon because I know it would improve the game. You can be great at running backwards and keeping an eye on your whole team, but it just isn't always possible... and on PC typing isn't always an option.

No, I tend to lead the team. Do you know how many games there I ive played where they DONT hear the tank in the next room, try molitoving the witch rather than headshotting it, who don't use the garbage bags in No Mercy/ who don't use the Power Shot glitch if they didn't bring a shotgun on Witches...The list goes on and on. I usually take point and take care of things, turning around to assist when I need to, killing teammates if they are white screen so they respawn, simple stuff. I don't run off, i usually let people run off and let them die because of their idiocy.

Yup, thus why mics = good so you can say, Hey, tank ahead.
try molitoving the witch rather than headshotting it
Or try avoiding her. I rarely molotov witches.
who don't use the garbage bags in No Mercy
I used to, but I dont anymore. Too much risk for a teammate to get smoked and thus being unsavable or atleast greatly damaged from it. And you also could miss a healthkit or pills or ammo by avoiding downstair.
who don't use the Power Shot glitch if they didn't bring a shotgun on Witches...
I dont. I do not use exploits or glitches of any kind. And I find the use of them enough for an automatic perma-ban on my server.

With a mic you could call them back and make sure they dont run off and die because since its a team game, ANY damage to the TEAM is damage to you. Since you get points as a team.

Most definitely. It is a glitch. And I do not suffer glitchers at all. Although, I would probably warn first time, and if they did it again, theyd get ban hammer. That glitch is not meant to be the way the game is supposed to be played. The witch isnt supposed to be easy. She is supposed to rape your team if she is not dealt with properly.

Do what I did before I found out about the power shot yesterday. Shoot them in the head.
I do it because its fun and makes the game easier, just like super jumping on the turrets was fun, and beating down the No Mercy door made thing easier. Anyway I don't do it in Versus. i try to get the level done as fast as possible, but in campaign I do it all the time. Think of it this way, power shooting is hard, you don't do it right every time but you get better at it, its very similar to BXR or BXB from Halo 2. Were they glitches? Yeah, but did Bungie or MLG care, no. Why? Because only the people with skill could do it and do it effectively. Honestly if Vavle were to leave some glitches in the game, it would make it more enjoyable.
I was pissed when they fixed the Safe House glitch though....

Yes, by taking the lead that usually means you are in front. How can u lead if you are in the middle or bringing up the rear. I haven't had a game since the game came out where people didn't follow my lead.
Well once, and they were some clan douchebags who wanted to do a finale the hard way. They all died, i made it, and got the NM Expert achievement.

The bottom line of this whole thread is pretty simple. L4D is a team based game which requires team based strategy. I don't give a good god damn how great you think you are or how long you have been playing the game. I also purchased the game the same day it came out and have been playing it since, but I still use my mic every time I get on. It's called a necessity.
If Jesus himself came down from the heaven's, and joined a Versus match on No Mercy without a mic, then Jesus himself would either immediately get booted, or he would be the first one dead after a Hunter pounce and rage quit.
Oh yeah, Jesus rage quits...

Well said. It does boil down to being a team based game, and working as a team in any situation, work, home, in games, whatever, it always requires good communication.
Oh and.. oddly enough.. someone playing by the name Jesus in a versus game I was playing last night actually DID rage quit! lol

I've had a few games where I've meshed with people who didn't have mics and did pretty well. However, those games are a lot fewer than the games where I did well with a group full of mics.
Conversely the games where my team does poorly with mics are still pretty close, with the rare blowout. Where the games where my team does poorly without mics tend to be huge blowouts.
Conclusion: Communication is good. Lack of communication is bad

I dont use a mic unless I'm with my clan. in a pub I have set my radial menu to give text commands like "smoker got me, behind" or "hunter on me, in front" thakes the same amount of time, but most times a tight knit team doesnt even need to say "hunter on me".
its more like "Hunt-" you saved playerx "Thanks".
also people whio continually talk into there mics about what they are going to do after the game, shouldnt use their mics in game. the built in voice features of l4d often drown out the noises of the special infected while someone is talking.

Okay, no, just no.
First off, you said Halo required more communication than L4D. I didn't have high hopes for this thread, but right there was when I knew this thread was going to go completely downhill.
Second off, letting your teammates run off and running off and abandoning your team? Essentially no difference, you are leaving them for dead either way. If you're the leader, how about you tell someone to go help them when they run off or tell them to slow down using the game? Wait, you can't. Those cues aren't in the game. This is where a mic comes in handy.
Third, you glitch and exploit. And the finale the "hard" way? Called the fair way, and I give the "clan d-bags" more respect than you, to be perfectly honest, as they were actually giving the team a fair shot to get them and not just a hopeless waiting period.
I kick most no-mics from my game, unless they're guests, because at least they will communicate with one person. You're getting kicked for a reason, and a legitimate one at that. I would rather communicate with complete idiots for an hour than just be a complete mute for half of one, also. This way, you can tell them their mistakes and find a way to work around that, right? This is why mics are essential. On XBL, there isn't a "auto-strategize" cue.
Also, don't exploit. It makes it easier, but it makes you an exploiter, and the game unfair and not played the way it was meant to be played. Also, true leaders need mics. I think they only follow you in this game because they find it hopeless to try negotiating with you.
That is all.

Lets see, if they don't know better then to run off, I'm not going to stop them.
By the hard way, i mean running around in the open, not cornering up and using explosives.
They will figure out their own mistakes by trying something again the next time/round.
Also, exploits are FUN. They make the game FUN. More FUN than what Valve has already made it.
Infest0125
04-18-2009, 11:22 PM
You could ask them to slow down, it's worth a try. These people aren't willing to learn if you, being the leader, aren't willing to teach. Isn't that what the leader is for anyway?
And cornering up is cheap, using explosives isn't. This game wasn't made so four survivors could just sit in a corner and melee away. It was to enforce actual teamwork.
And how will they know it is their mistake and not you just refusing to help them, unless you tell them that they made a mistake? More people think this than you may believe.
Oh, and exploits? Fun? Hahahah no. Not at all. They make it more stressful than it should be for the opposing team, and you have to be considerate of others too. Bashing the turret? That was fun, but using it to completely skip ahead? No, that was just annoying. Bashing down the door of NM3? No, that just aggrivated the other team and proved that you were too scared to take on the challenge of a crescendo with a few hordes.

Instead you were slapped in the face with the reality of the fact that people dont really want to play with no-mic'ers
Pretty much sums up the thread.
