View Full Version : Fortress Forever Release

This comes as a little surprise to some, as earlier in the week we had reported that the highly anticipated Team Fortress Classic conversion Fortress Forever would be releasing on Monday. Since the Team Fortress 2 Beta is being released that day, the FF team decided to move the launch date back to what was a previously undisclosed day. That day has come!
This is a FilePlanet an Planet Half-Life exclusive launch, so if you want to get your hands on the files, this is the place to come! You can get the hefty client-side installer right here, and for you Windows server administrators, this is the file you need. The Linux build is following shortly, and we'll post the download mirror for that once it arrives.

Yeah I'm d/l the file now. The torrent is here: http://www.legittorrents.info/details.php?id=076f4 cd2a29fd862e42da9b4991e11554cf13833 (http://www.legittorrents.info/details.php?id=076f4cd2a29fd862e42da9b4991e11554cf 13833)
You gotta click on the Torrent: FF though because there is no d/l button.

I think it's the best mod for hl2 since Minerva which is pretty much sad. Don't include that buggy, pos zombie mod either.

Team Fortress is bad, needs more then just run and gun. People think simplicity's better but when a billion games do it, it sucks... bad. (UT3)

The game is for the sole purpose of competitive play, if it had stupid barrels dotted about the place like counter-strike:source it would just be goddamn annoying continuously bumping into them and having them drop frame rate... its just not needed.

You are very much so becoming a Troll. I never see you post anything positive anymore. Team Fortress is good. Was one of the first online game to introduce class based team combat.
The game is "run and gun", yes. But just to spread the word.. that's mostly what it was going for when it came out. It is exactly what they wanted it to be. If you don't like it, don't play it. Play a more tactical game if you want, this game just not might be for you. That doesn't make it "bad".

Phew, been playing this all day. Really enjoying it so far. My only gripe is the HW guy seems a tad imbalanced and the Pyro is no longer the "anti-HW" class like he used to be. Other then that, it's a blast.

ive been waiting so long for a competitive game like this, and the stupid excuse for a tf game that is tf2 isnt very clan friendly or that competitive i really like this game, and its something to tide me over till l4d

TF2 looks to be nothing but competitive and screams for clan play.
This hostile one or the other that seems to come from the FF community is strange to me.

Now, I came to TFC late, squerl was a huge player. I know I felt that the game demanded a style like this, recently squerl and I had played using a graphic modification that stylized it in a much more cartoony way. Other people I've spoken too felt that this was just what the game needed for the unrealistic style.
Besides that, the new technology, style, and humor of the game is a great innovation and far from "butchers" anything. Differs yes.
Clearly there are many old players who are begging to get their hands on TF2 and instantly felt that the new art style fit perfectly. In all truth, the outcry against it seems to be coming from a vocal minority (as we can see in comments on videos and such from new and old players).
At least you plan on trying out TF2, so many FF players have taken to the philosophy that TF2 suxorz and is for noobs, FF is the only way to go. Personally I think that the reduction of nade spam (and therefore unintentional kills) and the greater separation of class skills enhances the competitiveness of the game.

You two should have a troll war.
Btw, TFC2? What kind of idiot are you?
Team Fortress CLASSIC 2
Idiot.
Can't wait to play every game mode except normal TFC.

knew that would wind someone up who cares about forums a little too much.
Unfortunately FF is 2 years too late else it might have received some valve love after release. Guess I'll return to css until Quake5 is here. Roll on 09!

I played this a little last night. Definitely one of the better HL1-to-HL2 community updates for a game/mod. There are a few things about it which annoy me, but that's probably just because they differ from how I'm used to things in TFC.
if you check the ff forums you will find a few mirrors
Thanks for that. Yay for the 400k/sec mirror on there. :D
I think it's the best mod for hl2 since Minerva which is pretty much sad. Don't include that buggy, pos zombie mod either.
Well zombiemod is a serverside mod, so it doesn't even count as a proper mod anyway. It's more of a script which changes largely depending on the server. Also, Minerva definitely = The pwn. Only HL2 SP mod I've seen which I prefer is Black Mesa, which isn't out yet.

Yeah, when I played the HW guy nothing could take me down unless I was in an open area and got sniped. I usually enjoy the oh shi- moments when I see a Pyro or in some cases, Demoman. :(

The original TF dev's work for Valve now. I think its kind of hard to butcher your own creation, especially if you're happy with how it turned out. They may have butchered some peoples view of TF/TFC but change is a constant and if they just made it another engine port, they would have been shunned for not being creative enough instead.
At least your going to give it a try though. Some people never even played TFC/TF and are just jumping on the bandwagon. (e.g. video comments like "Valve should stick to their own games instead of copying original mods like FF.")
This hostile one or the other that seems to come from the FF community is strange to me.
Me too. Another strange thing, the hostility is almost completely absent on the actual FF boards.
Clearly there are many old players who are begging to get their hands on TF2 and instantly felt that the new art style fit perfectly.
Hell yeah. As soon as I saw the trailer with ballet music and soldiers rocket jumping, I knew they'd gone in the right direction. TF was never about realism to me though, so for people who viewed it that way I see how they can think its been "butchered".
Know what I'm looking forward to the most in TF2? NO GRENADE SPAM.
Grenade spam's great because not only do they always throw them somewhere predictable so they're easy to avoid, but it also reduces the chance of you being killed by a properly used nade later on; with the added side effect of shocking them if they get killed by a properly used nade, e.g. "omfg noob, nades are for the start of the round". :D
Not that I'll miss it, at all.
(EDIT: oops, really loooong post because of all the quotes.)

this may sound very contradicting, but im not hostile to tf2, i want it to be good, i really do, but the more i see it, the more i don't like it. think my tf days are behind me(if ff flops), long live left4dead ;D
i just hope tf2 has some more ctf instead of command points, but time will tell

They could have made the game a bit more noob friendly, I dont mind because im fairly good at it, and I remember, or use common sense with the grenades. But there's nothing like seeing a scout trying to conc jump, use the little tack things, cripple himself and get headshotted :)
No1 is playing the other modes :(

Yeah I get that, otherwise you probably wouldn't even be trying TF2. It was more of a generalised comment and your words fitted more into it so you got the quote. :P
But there's nothing like seeing a scout trying to conc jump, use the little tack things, cripple himself and get headshotted :)Haha, you should post that as a comic idea in No Shelters thread.
No1 is playing the other modes :(I've seen a few servers doing it, but they always seem to be either compeltely full or empty. :(

It'll depend on the popularity of 2fort. If 2fort continues like it does in TFC, I think they'll release more CTF maps.

Forgot to say the dev team gets an A++++++++++++ for getting this to feel like TFC.
