So, in light of Valve's lucrative move to allow players access to Team Fortress Beta after pre-purchasing the orange box (which I gladly agreed to) , and bearing it mind previous comments that Turtle Rock was looking into many options upon the release of Left4Dead, is it just possible that a similar option may present itself for Left4Dead?

To recap: Pre-purchase Left4Dead for Beta Access? Or will you devise an even better idea.

Speaking of Mike, been wondering something about him. Usually people who undertake zombie-themed projects like this (whether games, books, or films), you find out, have an interest or love of the subject and tend to be fans themselves. Usually seems to go that way anyway.

So I wonder if Mike Booth is actually a fan at all of zombie and/or horror films, or really just sees this game as a unique one to tackle from a programming/business standpoint and not much else? Has he ever answered that question one way or the other and I just missed it? If not, I'd really be curious to know! Wouldn't dream of bothering him about it, but just something I'm wonderin' about is all. Wish an interviewer would ask him that one sometime!

Thanks. And yeah, I've heard him say that, too, about the team having watched many zombie movies and that 28 Days Later is an obvious influence, but those statements usually seemed to be more related to the subsequent development of the game after the whole "20 knife-bots vs. 2 CT's" thing he did when testing his CS bots (which Mike's said was actually the thing that gave them the idea to even do L4D). The next logical step for TRS, according to Mike Booth, was simply to decide what kind of game to build around that swarming bot group mechanic, and that the answer was very obvious right away: zombies.

So my guess is that they probably watched all those zombie movies as a dev team for research, more after they had decided to do the game, which is how early game research usually goes. So that doesn't necessarily have to mean he's actually a fan of the genre itself (or even horror movies), but once decided upon, the research for L4D then had to be done. So you gotta watch you some zombie movies--whether you want to or not, lol.

I was just saying that I'd be curious to know someday whether or not he was actually a horror/zombie fan to start with before the game was even on the table, that's all. As a fan myself, It'd just be that much cooler knowing he happens to really dig the genre, too, in addition to making such a great game. But no, his previous statements haven't really quite answered that question IMO. So still just wondering a little cuz it's fun. :)
