17:30 Death Toll Boathouse... I'll be honost, I jumped on a rock and just kicked a bunch of smoker butt. They nerfed the rock near the rescue dock, but the rock on the other side of the house is still a go. (the smokers tend to only come from one spot, so you're pretty much good)

Last Stand is seriously the toughest of them all. I was at about the 3 minute mark with some buds and the third Tank spawned. I ran around the second level of the lighthouse a couple of times until I got grabbed by a Smoker and then the Tank punted my ass about 10 miles into the ocean. That bastard...

survival mode is "OK". I have asked all my friends that have L4D and they ALL said that the DLC should've had.. New guns, new character skins, and new campaigns. survival mode gets very repetative and i think thats what the DLC should've had as well anybody aggree??????

No survival is great if your playing with a group of friends. While all those things would be nice they would take forever to get. To add no replay value? That a lie. With a team you could easily try to beat the top record. Is hell of fun trying to do it.

On my thread it was closed and cheats were called. I assure you no cheats were used. We played in The Drain. If you go up on the area where the bridge is and the med packs and all 4 stay up there tanks eventually stop coming up and smokers cant get to you or boomers. So you only face hunters and hoards. We killed about 10 tanks but that is it. It is a glitch of sorts so try it out yourself. It was my first time trying that level so now I assume people could get 60 or more minutes if done right.

This is actually true if I remember what The Drain is (the second map in death toll?) We got our first gold on that map, just over 10 minutes i think. We stayed in that corner and a couple of us were right at the catwalk that comes down when you normally start the mission in campaign. Tanks kept getting stuck for some reason and we were in a regular area people normally walk around it! It was really weird.

I don't play survival mode to get leaderboard, that makes a game boring for me, I like finding extremely hard ways to play survival mode, moving around whenever there's a pause in zombeh activity, playing it more like it's a movie (Kinda y'know.. What left4deads about), the leader board for me is kinda something to look back and say "oh, that was a good run" and then go on to another. I'm not an achievement whore (like half my friends on l4d lol) and I just try to enjoy the new mode as much as possible without it too easy, if you find a cheap spot n get far, what's the point? You accomplished nothing, basically find an easy way out, there's no fun in that.

Anywho, I'm gone to play some survival in lighthouse, wish me luck!

Edit: A lot of people seem to get like, a crap load of hunter, with me I get like, 70 smokers lol.

Like someone else stated, we also came across a point in the map when the tanks stopped spawning. We then just held out as long as we could against never-ending waves of smokers,hunters, a few boomers and a new horde approximately every 0.5 seconds.

we just stayed on that same rock that you stay on when trying to survive that level on Expert. The only infected that can really mess anything up is the smokers.

They're easy at first, but once we hit about 18 minutes, there were about 4 or 5 smokers every 10 seconds and we couldn't keep track of which direction they were coming from. Eventually ONE hunter pounced one of us, sending the other 3 stumbling backwards off the rock into the water, and so then the 3 of us tried to get back on, but each were pulled in separate directions by smokers...it was so epic I was LMAO

Getting Gold was EASY.
Difficulty ramps up very quickly after that though.
There should be a 4th medal (platinum/steel) for getting 12 minutes...which is actually hard.

I can't believe times over 15 minutes... I heard tanks stop spawning? Was this the intent of Valve? That would be comlete nonsense. Every second you survive longer should exponentially increase your inescapable chance of dying!

If I "just have to make it over 15 minutes" to go on with a cakewalk, what's the purpose of best times over this mark? I'd like to see this fixed. It ruins every attempt of comparison and competition. Not that I would have made it past 9 minutes until now, but this system is kind of boring. (Not the survival mode itself! That's a shitload of fun!!!)

I recorded a demo of myself on DA Luggage from 16 minutes and on, and we got about 21 mins. Stuff just stops spawning and its only common and the occasional 1 smoker...

I don't get what's the point of playing survival if you don't need to "try to survive". Everybody knows that it's impossible to get such times without glitches...

I thought one wanted to see how long one can stand... Hopefully Valve's gonna fix this.

Today a friend and I got gold on two maps on the intended way and it was a great feeling! Why would you wanna miss that?

It's unfortunate that times beyond 15 minutes have no meaning because of the tank bug , the 10 minutes mark is when it really becomes nerve wrecking fun , even if you are well entrenched. For the time being , it's good enough to play on the harder maps (last stand , DT5) and use more challenging methods on the others.

Me and Grubster agreed that any time over 16 minutes was glitched and he removed it. He kept everything before 16 because 15:36 there could quite possibly still be a tank and you're just running for your life. at 16 that tank would be dead and at that point you're glitching.

I've never reached the 15 minute mark. But I've seen someone's demo where they had a tank at about 14:50 and they ran around surviving till about 15:25. So anything before 16 is perfectly legit IMO.

I was checking the leaderboards and we both had the record time of 17 minutes. I wanted to get gold on that map "legally" so to speak.

If you submit a demo, it would be proof that you earned the impossible scores people are submitting. And besides, it's only for Gold Medal times. And demos aren't a lot of work, you simply type "record <DemoNameHere>" before you play a game. Uploading it would be as easy as uploading a photo to a website, but you could use FileFront or something.
You would understand if you had an e-penis.

I agree. Bots are stupid, terminal is easy. We got gold yesterday on the first run without really trying... In other maps we have problems to get to silver!

And I know the bots are stupid since the very beginning of this game, but in survival mode it seems just ridiculously stupid. Example: Louis is trying to help me up, maybe half a second to go and NOOOO, there was ONE common infected to shoot, so dropped me again... -.-

I got over 8 minutes in the Hospital with 3 bots, and I'm no where near stellar. Playing XBox though...

Playing with a friend of mine and 2 others managed 12:59.03 (think that's the right time, within a second if not) the third time I played Terminal. We hung out near the reception counter (across from the escalators), and pretty much trashed anything in front of us. Eventually we went into last stand mode with all four of us black and white with temp helth under 10. Didn't take too long after that. Pity is that we could have made 13 minutes except for ONE common infected that survived the last few rounds out of our last guy's M-16, and got in a single punch.

The best time I had on survival was tonight, because I happened upon a server where the admin was playing and he had the barricade builder mod installed. It was a blast being able to cordon off areas and take out hordes of zombies without being immediately over-run.

That mod makes the game a thousand times more interesting.

I just wish it wasn't so much trouble trying to get it working on my own server, which is what I'm trying to do now lol.

Is everyone here playing on PC? I solely play on 360 so I dont know if there are drastic differences that affect gameplay and survival mode times.

with regards to the glitches, those guys do suck and it has totally defeated the purpose of those leaderboards. I hope Valve can do something about this in the near future as far as an update to fix the glitches and a resetting of the leaderboards. I feel cheated because last night me and 3 buddies went for 17:37 on the farmhouse and were ranked 180. probably 50-70 of the times in front of us were glitches. I have gold on 7 or 8 maps, but some of them seem impossible. the drains (5:37), lighthouse(8:12), the church (8:45) to name a few are brutal, the church though seems to be the one standing legit map where no one has been able to cheat it, as the best time is 32 min and 2nd is 22 I believe. If there was a glitch, it would be in the 600-1000 min range like the rest of them, so if there are any 360 users, the church is still a legit leaderboard if you want to compare yourself.

My best legit times are:

21:31 the construction site
17:37 the farmhouse ( we went through 21 tanks and almost 80 smokers!)
12:20ish on the terminal
12:41 on the hospital

Tanks do spawn after 15 mins, they are much farther apart though then when your at 8-12 mins and it is almost purely hordes, with a smaller amount of special infected.

The farmhouse was our best effort, staying in the barn loft where there is an ammo stash, and around 8-10 molotoves on a table, with a couple of pain pills there and below. the tanks have to climb to the loft, and you can murder them before they really get a chance to attack you. Health is a concern though, we have done several gold efforts on that map, but running back to the house is suicide, and you lose as much health on the way there and back as you gain with the health packs you pick up inside. Anyone here gone 20-30 mins on the farmhouse and have any insight on how to do it? we've tried pipe bombs on the way to and from the house, but it doesnt affect the hunters and smokers that are waiting to destroy you.

Is it just me or does it seem that when you first try a map you usually do better by quite a while. But when you try and put a plan into action often it fails, and people die. But then again I haven't played survival in about 3 weeks so it might just be me. On that note has anyone else got bored of it after about 3 or 4 days after it came out??

Last night I upped my hospital time to 14:44. I joined a group with 3 other random guys (which usually never works out) and we did it about 4 or 5 times, never getting under 11 min. Break ALL the doors open and move room to room until your out of supplies in each, and use the big double door room last where there is a good supply of molotoves.
