New update just hit. They are fixing some of the Survival Mode exploits already.

Survival Mode Changes



Darkened the Lighthouse background movie and increased the contrast with the user interface elements
Chapter selection is now available when creating a Survival lobby
Single player coop now works correctly after playing Survival online
The correct game mode will be set when playing back a demo
Changed holdout server spew to be development only
Stats are no longer updated while viewing a demo
Correctly update the leaderboard based on the player's personal time, not the team best time
Show the player's best time in the scoreboard
Removed Survival exploits from The Terminal, Last Stand, The Crane, The Boathouse and The Warehouse
Fixed tanks sometimes not spawning after 15-20 minutes

Kudos to Valve for the fast fix. i thought i was gunna have to get used to cheaters on every game.

It's just for the PC version. The Xbox game gets patched independently. I'm going to add that to the title.

I didn't even know that this was a glitch. So everybody of the team will get different "best times"? So if I die at 9 minutes 58 seconds and my buddy at 10 minutes 2 seconds he will get gold and I won't?
:( But we need each other to get so far, don't we?

I agree, I think this is not really fair. Well, I guess it is fair in some ways but not fair in others.

But major kudos to Valve for getting right on the ball and fixing these problems right away.

I think it means the issue with new players joining a team who previously made a high-score
And the new players getting it just for joining the server even if it's a new round.

Yeah good point. If they kept it as it was you'd just have all these pubs joining multiple games until they found one where the team playing was doing well, getting a lot more acheivments than good players who put the time and skill in.

Yeah good point. If they kept it as it was you'd just have all these pubs joining multiple games until they found one where the team playing was doing well, getting a lot more acheivments than good players who put the time and skill in.

Ah, ok, didn't even notice that this was possible. Is only this affected by the patch?
So, if I start a round with friends and I die earlier than another, the time doesn't stop for me? Or does it? If not - great patch through and through! :)

No, if your team dies that will be your time, but if you go with another team with a different time you will try to beat other players scores, I think.

Well the good news is us xboxers will only have to wait 8 months to get this patch. Yeah for M$!!!! Keep it in my ass without lube, because thats what we pay $50 a year for right?

OT: Thank god they started patching these exploits. It was getting out of hand. One guy on the xbox leaderboard had like 900 minutes on The Crane I think it was.

how to update left 4 dead me newbie in this game...

I was on survival mode on the hospital map and was no clipping around investigating and seeing if the rest of the map was there and it ended up going over 10 minutes. It didn't give me the achievement (obviously, cheats were on) but it did register the time on the leaderboards, and now whenever I get over 10 minutes on that map it doesn't give me credit towards my achievement for gold on all levels...I hope they fix that soon

This is an update for the Steam version (PC). It will update automatically when you start the game or restart Steam.
