Hey guys, I got L4D back when it first came out on PC and everything worked beautifully up until a few days ago that is. My voice chat just stopped working. I can no longer hear people speaking in game, but people can hear me however.

All the settings are fine in the audio options but I hear nothing when I click test mike. The voice transmit volume and microphone sensitivity are grayed out. Boost microphone gain is always set to disabled by default now also.

This happened 2 days after the survival update and I'm at my wits end here. I've been searching and searching but no one has the same problem as me. My microphone works in steam voice chat itself when I test it, I've even tested it on steam while in left 4 dead and it worked there, but still not in left 4 dead. It works in every other steam game I have, in Skype, in Vent. Everything but Left 4 Dead.

I really hope someone can help me solve this issue.

Is your mic enabled in L4D?

Yep. "Enable voice in this game" is set to "Enabled"

edit : I forgot to mention that I've already tried reinstalling Left 4 Dead. That didn't help any.

Does it work in other steam games?

Indeed it does. Just tested it in Counter Strike : Source and Half Life 2 : Death Match

Try typing "voice_enable 1" in console!

Have you tried a different mic all together to see if it is the mic or a different problem?

Maybe they're all messing with you and pretending to speak into their mics ;)

Nah in all honesty not heard of this one before. If your mic is transmitting fine there won't be any fault with the mic itself, and if sound is fine otherwise it has to be settings.

I think there is a slide for voice receive volume. Sounds opbvious but maybe it's just too low?

Try typing "voice_enable 1" in console!

Or something like this! Or "voice_input 1", I can't remember ^^ I'm gone check it later when I finished working!

Wow, this fixed it! Thanks everyone for your help. I'm not quite sure how this got turned off in the console, but I'll keep it in mind if it ever happens again.
