So, I've seen some videos of PC users moving their Hunters a great deal in the air. Am I missing something? Do hunters on xbox have the same flexibility while mid-pounce? If so do you use the left stick or right stick or both?

when you're in the air, its better to release crouch; this gives you a little more maneuverability.
Usually, people try to look where their final destination is (on top of a survivor) and strafe to aim, which works to an extent. It works a little better to actually look a little away from the survivor in the direction you want to correct (say you are too far left of a survivor... you look slightly to the right) and then use movement stick to nudge that way. Its a bit of a combo of looking and moving.

Oh! You have to uncrouch. I've been getting so pissed because I keep missing by a foot or so and I haven't had much luck in readjusting in the air.

the pc players can press a key in midair to allow them to steer a bit. We can't do this on the 360 to that extent. Compared to the 360, pc hunter jumps are a lot more user friendly
the mouse also makes trick jumps easier on the pc cos you can turn around very quickly
the thing with the pc is you can practice versus mode without having to be in a match. The only way i have found to get some hunter practice time is actually during a game, so pc players will have the edge when it comes to special infected shenanigans

oh, that makes sense why I never knew this... I don't HAVE an any key.
Seriously though, what key is he talking about?
We can steer just as much as they can to my knowledge.

Yeah I don't think there is a special crazy rape key of which he speaks about.

It is a secret key located under the keyboard, just under the space bar.. shhhh... :p
(I have yet to find it lol, but it is there!)

You can technically practice Versus on 360, but you have to do it in Splitscreen (Enable Splitscreen -> Create Versus System Link Lobby -> Make one person Survivor and the other Infected), so you'll lose framerate and have to use half the screen.

i believe if you press 'a' whilst airborne you can steer the hunter. I read it on this forum, someone with a pc was lamenting the fact they couldn't fly their hunter properly and a helpful sort replied, explaining that keeping the 'a' key pressed whilst in the air would etc etc..
of course, you can customise your keyboard layout on the pc for this game like so many others, so it's not necessarily the 'a' key. In fact, he might have even said the 'n' key, i'm not sure. It might even be the right mouse button for all i know
I play on the 360 so have only a very vague interest in pc matters as it is and the helpful sort might posting the info have been lying to a noob anyway. Who knows?
the special key is a nice idea though

a is our default left strafe. I haven't played 360 so IDK which thumb stick is the one that controls forward and back but the left direction on that thumb stick is essentially the same as our a.
Default config for a PC is using the WASD keys. W = forward, A = left, S = back, D = right.
I believe it should be the same steering for 360.

It may not be a single strategic key, but I assume (and please hold the comments on that one) that it is a bit easier to maneuver using the keyboard and mouse rather than a bulky controller.

I think I was the one that said "A" button, but I meant it as left strafe, its not a special aim button.

Now I'm not slamming the OP or anything, but it kinda irritates me when people ask about differences between the two versions like they're so different. I mean, to their credit, they do receive patches at different times, but the underlying game engine and mechanics are EXACTLY THE SAME. So (aside from occasional differences in patch versions and dev console access) anything that can be done in the PC version can be done in the 360 verison. This includes all advanced Hunter techniques such as vertical and horizontal wall climbs as well as airwalking. I realize that it's more difficult with thumbsticks (I've played both versions), but it's not impossible. Just keep practicing and follow the advice in the above posts.

I just brought up the difference because it seemed to me that most of the videos of pouncing was in 3rd person hence pc, and these hunters seemed to be able to move a little more in the air than I was able to move.
edit: I've been able to do limited wall-jumping but vertical climbing doesn't seem to work. I have no idea what airwalking is.

And that's perfectly fair. As has been mentioned, it is a tad more difficult to do advanced Hunter techs on thumbsticks, but it is still entirely possible. I always blow my friends minds when we do splitscreen on 360 and I start diagonal jumping across walls and airwalking onto survivors :D
The only thing that I wanted to make clear is that the two games are fundamentally equal and therefore have no differences in game mechanics (other than patch differences and console access). Though it's a legitimate concern...if I recall, UT3's movement speed was actually reduced on consoles in order to accommodate for the relative inaccuracy of thumbsticks.
EDIT: Airwalking is what you're referring to in your first post: basically, influencing the flight path of your pounce while in the air. For a tutorial on vertical wall climbing, watch this video that I made a while back (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3uy4R3sL6JI&fmt=18).

Actually, for the most part, those 3rd person views are not like that when they actually do the jump in game. PC can record entire games and then you can add commands such as thirdperson and go third person. Videos use thirdperson because it shows more of whats going on and looks better.

It does look better. It makes what may be an ordinary pounce look spectacular because you can see the other infected striking simultaneously.

Hi guys, newb here! Just wanted to say that some of the links in this thread were pretty helpful. It's funny, I always assumed that playing with a keyboard would be harder than a controller.

I doubt there is any real difference.
A lot of people don't realize that letting go of the crouch button allows you to move a little better though.

There is no difference between PC and XBOX besides the buttons themselves. Still same controls...
Also, I suggest holding down crouch the entire time, contrary to what someone else said. With holding crouch down, in the event that you do miss, you can immediately escape or pounce someone. Otherwise your standing there like a fool and have to crouch again to jump away. IMO, hold crouch the whole time.

useful videos
the only difference i've noticed in the controls is that even on max sensitivity the j pad cant turn you as quickly as the mouse. Which is why they have an 'about face' button for the 360, but this isn't that useful when youre hopping up walls with the hunter cos the angle isn't right

I' m pretty sure if you quickly hit crouch again, you don't have to charge it up.
Srsly, let go of crouch, it makes things a ton easier

I've never actually tried that. That's too much thinking involved haha. It would make sense that letting go lets you control easier though...

I've said it before... if you are having troubles controlling where you're going with your hunter jumps, close your eyes and channel whatever FPS you played before. Apply grenade physics and how you'd move your reticle up to gain distance. I get annoyed to see these hunters jumping at you from the floor and they only move about 2-3 feet per jump... I wonder how one can fail like that.
