I quick matched into a game of Dead Air in progress (The construction yard) and i look about me and see two Hunters, a Boomer and a smoker controlled by people that have yet to spawn. It looked like the Survivors had been camping out for awhile, so i go look for a good place to spawn and notice an extra blue outline. I run towards it and find out it's two spawned AI controlled hunters sitting around waiting for the survivors to come out. At first i thought it was the glitch where you see dead infected still standing if you've come into a game after they've been killed. So i whack em, and sure enough they start jumping up and down and move away from my melee. I lagged out a few minutes later so i never got too see what would happen with 6 Special infected, and if the AI would attack. Has anyone ever seen this before? Why would this happen?

Well, its 360 version so its no plugin or anything of that nature. And since I am unfamiliar with the ways of the 360 director, my guesses are limited. My only real guess is that the survivors recently killed a tank. So, first person with tank spawned his hunter and then got switched to tank. 1 ai hunter. That person sat and waited, so someone else got the tank. He switched from hunter to tank. you have your other AI hunter. they either then wait for tank to go AI or attack with him, and bam, you have 2 ai and 4 players.

You are right on the money man. That is exactly what can happen and if the survivors were camping out means the tank probably couldn't get to them for some reason so all the infected could do is let the ai take over. Hence more infected. Actually it happened to me today. We had an extra smoker and boomer.

I thought it had to do with the survivors camping in the beginning safe room area. I guess somehow the two player controlled hunters left after spawning in, so when i came in it gave me a blue outline hunter to spawn instead of the AI. The two AI hunters were around a building corner next to each other just waiting. My impression was that the Survivors had been camping around the same spot for a good while and i was surprised that the hunters both said "Hunter" over them instead of a gamertag.

Yer what you are saying is defiantly not unheard of. Just means you can really fuck them up when they out of hiding.

Another option is that because people were camping infected players dropped, causing the AI director to take over control of their infected if they were spawned

Hahahaha.
You can spawn up to 15 special infected as bots. I've done this many times, planted all kinds of hunters in the safe-room and just sat back and watched the fireworks, it's amazing. Four surviors in green health with medpacks make it safely to the safe room only to see a million hunters flying around, and they all get pounced, GOD the screeching is music to my ears.

I really think you may have been in my game, cause that is exactly what happened to me. What happened was the survivors were being really cheap and camping in the freezer, and we all spawned waiting for them to come out. One hunter became a tank leaving ahunter bot behind, but he got lost or something and it was passed on to another hunter standing right next to the bot, so there were two hunter bots standing right near the window you come out of to get to the crane. So there 3 hunters, a smoker, boomer, and tank. Eventually the tank died from being shot through the freezer...but these nubs sucked so bad we whooped them in the construction yard and they never even seen the 2 hunter bots. I smoked the last one over the fence, and when he incapped one of his teamates ragequit...then the bot teleported (ever see a bot do that?) back to the other side of the fence to revive the incapped player, one of the player hunters pounced before he could get up and I had smoked the bot that was trying to help. the other two started speeding up the ladder, to be met with a boomer and a hunter. Then the hunter helping me had finished with his kill and gone to help the other hunter kill the last two....at this point the remaining survivors ragequit.....losing one round is not the end of the freakin' world....I'd love to finish a campaign once in a while...

I meant to quote that in my last post...sorry

That is impossible to do in the 360 version. Thus as I said. 360 version = no plugins = no player spawning AI

I didn't think getting 15 infected sounded right. I understand 5 or 6 because the tank becomes two human controlled players before it goes to the AI tank.

It must've been the case that i was in your game. The Tank can spawn in unusual spots on that map where inexperienced SI players might get lost, and killing the tank through the freezer door sounds about right. I was only in the game long enough to see the aftermath of Six Special Infected though.
Edit: I made a mistake, I believe it was "the Crane" level where you lower the dumpster down. The only off thing was that the Survivors were camping on the safe room side of the fence. From what i know there's no way to cross back once you go over, and the usual first Tank spawn is once the survivors cross the fence. Unless the tank spawned immediately after they left the safe room, in that case i've never seen the Tank spawn that close on that map.
The only other option is this (which sounds like another plausible way it could happen):
Another option is that because people were camping infected players dropped, causing the AI director to take over control of their infected if they were spawned

They left the safe room and as soon as they set foot out of the building torwards the fence, the tank music started and they headed back into the freezer and I could see the tank outline going back and forth inside that hallway, so he had to have been lost, or just didn't want to be the tank. and the hunter bots were up near the crane standing just outside that window.

LOL. No it's not, you spawn in, leave the game, come back into SAME GAME, and you have either an AI Hunter, Boomer, or Smoker, depending on what you spawned. It stays idle until it spots a survivor, you can do it up to 15 times. I've had well over 8 hunters plus my 4 buddies camping a safe-room. You don't need plug-in's, after anyone spawns in and leaves, or gets kicked the AI takes over their infected until the infected dies.
You should try it, before making assumptions. It's cheap as hell but fun, especially if you want to see a lot of rage-quitting.

It's not well known, but it's common sense. As I said join the game, spawn in as one of the three infected, leave, and come back into the game and your infected will still be there. It's also better to just spawn hunters other than anything else, once you have about 7 or 8 hiding in the safe-room, it's amazing. There is no pressure on the survivors up until that point, and BAM, it's like a warzone.
I probably shouldn't have said anything, because now it will probably get fixed, but maybe not if you haven't experienced it yet, and you have to have 3 players on a team who know what they are doing for it to go down properly. Can't just have one guy spawning and leaving, it will take too long, might get 4 hunters max in the safe-room, as oppose to up to 10 if you are working together, spawning, and leaving in rotations. GOD THIS IS MY FAVORITE EXPLOIT.

Why would you want more rage quitting. Server shutting down is maybe the worst thing that could happen half way through a game.
And that is kind of cheap. Kind of really cheap.
