View Full Version : Survival Locations for Gold
I've been searching through the forums, and I'm quite surprised there hasn't been a thread started on Survival locations for Gold medals. So, I figured I'd start one..
You can post any spots that helped you achieve the Gold medal on a level, let's get these spots out to the public and help everyone out with their Golds!
I'll start:
No Mercy - The Gas Station - 14m 39s
The Gold medal on this level is fairly easy to get, just make sure everyone picks up an Auto shotty, and a pipe bomb (where you're going, a molotov will cause too much friendly damage). Start the lift, and run across the awning until you reach the upper floor of the warehouse. Drop down the hole and pick a corner. USE PISTOLS religiously in order to conserve ammo for tanks. Make sure everyone knows when a tank is approaching, continuous fire from four Auto's will take a tank down in about 3 seconds. Just make sure to save each other from Smokers (there will be a LOT of pulling), and the Gold should be pretty easy to attain.

No Mercy-The Hospital- 13m 53 sec.
Make sure that you have 1 hunting rifle guy, and 3 auto shotties usally work great.
The double doors that end the long hallway were the ammo is. Shoot the door until they have the biggest holes they can get, and then melee them. Or just wait until infected burst it down. Once inside, there are pills for louis, 4 pipebombs, and that's it. Make sure that you USE PISTOLS if you are not fighting a tank, and repeat. And my time is just with random pub players. Smokers will get you, so have your group close to eachother.

I used the same strategy as Hobo posted, got 13m 42 sec, it works well. I remember when we first discovered it, we were like, no way this can work, but we got a massive score.
As for my personal strategy:
Death Toll-The Drains-11m 56s
We stayed in the corner where you start the event. Obviously you can't stand next to the button as fire is spawned in that little area, but directly across from it was a great spot. We went 3 autoshotties and one M-16. It might have been a lucky run, but we got 1 boomer during the whole time. Regardless, standing in the corner reduces your chance to get smoke'd out onto the lower ground, and you can usually take hunters out before they pounce someone in the corner. When you clear the horde early and get a lull, move as group down to get ammo and quickly run up the ladder and back to your spot.

No Mercy-Roof Top 14m 39s
Enter the radio room. Have all of your members pick up autoshotguns. Two grab molotovs, two grab pipe bombs. Have one of your members crouch in front of the pipe at the right side of the room, one person by the double doors directly behind him. Have your two other members crouch on opposite sides of the radio. Use pistols to conserve ammo. Call out a tank whenever you see it, and all four of your focus fire on it to kill it in seconds.

Yes, it's a free update.
Dead Air - The Runway - 17m 16s
For this one, any weapon is fine, although it's usually a good idea to have at least one, if not two auto shotties. Make sure everyone grabs some sort of thrown weapon, either a molotov or a pipe bomb, it doesn't matter, and collect gas cans. Move behind the rear-end of the airplane you would normally escape in, you should see a tower of stacked luggage next to a wrecked fuselage of another plane. Have one player stand on top of this stack of luggage, this will cause the special infected to 'glitch', they remain behind the escape airplane and don't come near the group (except for a few that spawn in other areas). The rest of the group should position themselves with their backs to the wrecked fuselage, covering the player who is standing on top of the luggage. Have someone start the event, then hold your own against the usual hordes. Once again, USE PISTOLS in order to save ammo for tanks, and have fun surviving for 17 minutes :P

Dead Air - The Terminal
18:08:13
1. We went to the bit where the van normally breaks down the fence, and kept crouched.
2. Starting grenades were taken from the baggage carrier area, so to conserve the ones at the counter.
3. Pistols used with the exception for Tanks and Smokers if your pistols are reloading, as Smokers can be devestating on that map.
4. Keep an eye out for Tanks dropping down from above.
5. When the team is low on ammo, wait until directly after the Tank and move as a team to the ammo then directly back.
6. Only use med packs once on the last stand.
7. Never bother with Molotovs on the Tank, as all it does it make it hard to see where it is coming from behind the fire.

NM2 Subway - Everyone get auto shotties and grab molotovs from the lower levels. Collect gas cans. Start the event, and linger in the corner by the pipes until the door is open enough to get through. Move through as a group. Go all the way to the corner where the doorway is that normally leads through (in campaign/vs mode) to the ammo room on the 2nd floor. Sit with your backs against the green boxes, be careful not to sit in an area where the railing is missing in front of you, otherwise a smoker can drag you down (to your doom). Mostly everything will come from the stairwell, use pistols for everything but tanks.
Deathtoll 3: The Church - Get at least 3 autoshotties, optional 1 person with AR or HR. Go outside and sit behind the park benches just outside the church (facing church, to the left), near the hole in the outer wall. Almost everything comes up the hill from the graveyard, and the visibility helps. The benches prevent smokers from dragging you away, and provide some protection from hunters as well. Ammo/health runs can get dicy, but are manageable, and therefore it's not as important to conserve your primary weapon ammo.
Deathtoll 4: The town - Everyone get auto shotties and grab bombs from near the forklifts. Collect gas cans. HOld out near the fence all the way at the end of the street, under the building structure on the left. Everyone sit behind the last pillar. Setup gas cans as needed. Try to stay partially behind the pillars so that a smoker can only ensnare you, but not drag you far away from your team. Pistols for everything but tanks. Ammo/health runs are nearly impossible. Share health and wait for a lul before you make the journey.

Gonna try and suggest something here:
Death Toll - The Streets
After activating the forklift, and after crossing over the giant barricade, run to the right, there is a wide alley, with a truck at the end. If you want to bring gas tanks you can. Use pistols until the tanks come and then use shotguns. This should let you hold out till after ten minutes. Smokers arent an issue since they cant get you from across the street and boomers wont have a chance to get near you. Hunters might be a problem but the alley is kinda wide so you dont have to stand so close to eachother. Its a pretty standard strategy but it works :D

Havn't got the gold on this one yet, so I think I need a bit of clarification... When you activate the forklift you climb past it like you would in a campaign and versus and the alley is on the other side of the big barricade blocking the street?

Yep exactly. Its on the right just after the barricade. Sorry if I was being unclear.

Better survival location for Death Toll: The Drains.
Use a propane tank to nudge the wooden box off the pallet so that it is angled on the ground and the pallet. Throw a pipebomb so that it is wedged under the box. When the bomb explodes, it will launch the box up onto the platform with the ladders. Use the propane tanks to nudge the box against the wall and hop on it and into the hallways. Follow the hallways, jump off the ledge, go down the ladder, go up the broken hallway and through the pipes, and BAM! You're back at the safe room. Only thing that can get in there is the tank, and if you all have autoshotties you'll be fine. You'll get a few zombies, but most of them will not be able to make it too you. You can get infinite time doing this.
In Dead Air: The Crane, you can hop onto the ledge of the building and the zombies will not know how to get to you. Watch out for smokers and rock-throwing tanks, and you'll be fine. I got 22 minutes doing this.

BH:Bridge, This is one of the easier maps in my opinion. 3 auto shottys, 1 assualt rifle. 1 guy in each of the 3 corners of the main room, with an extra person floating between the two corners near the back door. Really no need to conserve ammo, as its right there in the centre, keep health usage to a minimum though, and try to use the pills on the wall first. The three autos are for the tank, and the AR is for one of the guys in the back corners to deal with any smokers out infront of the house. Keep all placeable explosives out of the house, and whoever stands in the front corner with the newspapers, look out for smokers coming through the side door into the side room. Take advantage of any lulls to grab the easy to get health and ammo.
BH:Warehouse, put down petrol tanks in the room with the door, grab molotovs. Get up in the corner of the small room, open the door. When the guy who opened the door is back up with you, light up the petrol, you should be safe from it in your raised corner, wait for the first wave of infected to be burned and for the fire to stop, run through the door in this lull before the first tank, up the stairs, you'll notice there are two sections of this upper area, each has a few supplies. Stay in the first area till you have used these supplies, then move onto the next. This upper area is easy to defend, tanks have to move up the viewable stairs and have a (quite) long run till they get to you. Smokers cannot pull you down, and hunters tend to fail at getting up there (they hit the railings and fall down), not too many normal infected reach you either, especially if you throw your molotovs down on the floor below. Pistols for everything except tanks, pills before health kits, conserve health till the last moment.
Watch out for smokers though when you are in the secound section, the tend to come in groups of three, sometimes even four, around the corner near the un-openable doors. This can be a time ruiner if they get enough of you at once so be quick to kill them!

Congratulations on beaing a cheater and one of the people that have ruined the leaderboards.
BH: The Bridge: Hold up in the room next to the room with ammo. The one where the generators are. Two people on each generator. One guy watch the window, and the others watch the doors. If you all have auto shotty's for the tank and pistols for regular infected your good. Just watch the door that leads outside at all times as thats the only real place the smokers will come from.
DA: The Terminal: We started by where the car crashes through the wall and used up as much of the pipebombs and molotovs as you can. Then move along the wall into the first bathroom across from where the van starts out before you press the button. There are some supplies in each bathroom. Use everything in the one bathroom and then when you run out go to the next one. You have to kill the tanks fast because your in close quarters, but the nice thing is when you are fighting the regular infected its easy to kill them quickly. Two guys watch each side of the entrance and it becomes a slaugter house when they all try to run in the door. Basically you are creating a funnel and mowing them down easily.

Im just gonna go ahead and recommend another strategy:
Blood Harvest: The Warehouse
Pretty simple, first and foremost: Always use pistols, and only use shotguns for when the tank comes (just like you do all the time ;) Immediatly after opening the door run through it and up the stairs. Then run on top of the walkway to the left most side of the area and have everyone stand by the wall next to the second staircase. Have two people kill the zombies coming up the stairs, and two killing things coming from across the walkway. When the tank comes, mow him down :D There are pipe bombs and molotovs, but you need to bring gas tanks if you want to. This is one of the better corner strategys in the Warehouse, it got me fourteen minutes, but thats only since we all ran out of ammo :D Four pistols, two tanks=slaughter ;)
BTW: Is there a way to change the leaderboards so that they show everyone, instead of just your friends. I want to see how good people are and how many that have got crazy skillz ;)

It should say worldwide or something similar down the bottom. But don't bother looking it is filled with people that have glitched and have got like 6 hours and shit like that. Unless that has been fixed I haven't played survival in a long time.

For the Construction Site:
One person have a hunting rifle, other 3 get autoshotties. Get up to the wooden scaffolding along the concrete wall and put a propane tank on the scaffolding leading to you. The regulars will mostly fall between the cracks in the scaffolding, but some will make it through. The job of the hunting rifle guy is to exclusively watch for smokers. If one of your team gets pulled, throw a pipe and help him get back up. Always kill smokers first.
When the tank comes, he'll either come from the front across the scaffolding, climb up from the front, or he'll climb up the back way through the lower part of the concrete wall. If he comes up front, shoot the propane tank to knock him off the scaffolding and continue to shoot him. If he climbs up front or back, all 3 autoshotties run over to him and waste him while he's still climbing. It takes about 20 shots to kill him, so 3 people will be enough to kill him before he even finishes climbing.

On the No mercy generator, start the event with all four of you backed up against the security door. Once the door opens run up the stairs, continue straight forward when you clear the top then turn right and run to the end. Make sure all 4 of you camp that corner a little forward next to the railings so no smoker can drag you off. All you need is one guy watching the back to take care of the handful of infected that will try to climb over the fence at you while the rest take care of the infected that are funneled to run directly at you.
Tanks also often get stuck on this top part so nuking them with shotties should be no problem, plus hunters often leap from the ground but bounce off the railing, causing them to fail 90% of the time. Got about 15 min using this. Just make sure you can never get dragged off and never go for more ammo until you've got gold.

I think its funny how little Valve playtested the survival maps. Nearly everyone of them has major exploitable spots.
Last Stand has Chimney where infected wont see you aside from smokers.
Pile of suitcases does same thing on Runway.
Roof of house does same thing at the docks.
Ledge at the Crane too.
Also you can use a trick where you trade molotovs or pipe bombs causing them to fall to the ground. You can them shoot them to move them which lets you potentailly get lots of molotovs an pipe bombs in a corner. Which makes generator easy if you do it downstairs where its open. There is another major exploit that gives you infinite molotovs that I wont even say how to do.
But yeah Valve needs to patch all this up an reset the leaderboards for survival eventually.
