View Full Version : Voted off in versus

I've had three attempts at versus mode. I've been playing campaigns and survival reasonably successfully, but I readily admit I'm a bit shit at versus. The last two attempts I've been voted off pretty quickly. Is this because I'm terrible? Or am I making unforgivable noob mistakes? Can someone link me to a crash course in versus tactics or something please. It's frustrating, and not just for my teammates!

Hmm, probably all of the above I'm guessing. Most players are pretty unforgiving on new players. Heres a few basic things (the rest you'll learn as you go):

- As survivors, never EVER split up and ALWAYS stay together
- As infected, ALWAYS attack together with all 4 if you can
- Have a mic and talk to the players. I personaly can't stand playing with mute people.

Essentialy, those are the three big main things. Everything else comes with experience.

make sure you dont split from the others as a survivor, most of the players will kick you right away some others will actually tell you 3 or 4 times to come back and prolly type and if you dont answer they kick you

Half of the time , you are votekicked to make room for a friend of your current teammates. But it tends to occur sooner if you don't match their skill level , yes. Unfortunately , all you can do is keep playing and try to learn , which is harder without communicative teammates - especially as infected.

if you want send me a pm with your steam id i can add you i have like 3 other friends and we play, that way you know that we wont vote to kick you, i know its hard to learn when they dont even let you play

I am planning on making a complex video guide when I am done working on Duality Reviews, and I'll make sure to make a versus edition. It's pretty hard for new players, because the infected are radically different from the survivors, and a 20 second spawn time means that the game is much more intense

Thanks for all the advice and to sofaires for the offer of help. I think I'll practise campaigns a bit more to get my basic skills up and maybe have another crack at it.

Thanks all, at least I know it was nothing personal ;)

Go buy a mic, it only cost 5 bucks at the cheapest and a decent one will run 10 or so only. If you can afford this game you can afford the mic, it makes a big difference as everyone says. At the very least you can ask for help and communicate faster rather than just stop in the middle of playing and try to type out some message.

Also if you want to learn how to play and not get kicked, you can look up left 4 dead videos on youtube. There's tons of beginner stuff you can watch. Lots of people like to show off what they did to another team or how bad some other team is. You might as well take notes on what they did.

Yeah a mic helps.

If you're on PC and don't mind restarting a few times cause of my crappy interweb You can add meh on Steam. Most players don't like playing with noobz but Me and my friends never play seriously, I'm still learning stuff too and I've had the game for 3 months.

I'd take that offer mate. I began playing versus with friends which eventualy evolved into a clan. I dread to think how much harder it would have been to learn the ropes with a group of people that wouldn't have a laugh with you or forgive your frequent mistakes. Trial by error is the way to go in L4D, and so long as you're not an idiot the first time you run off alone and get tripple owned by a boomer, smoker and hunter, it should be the very last time you ever try a 'Rambo' again. Good luck matey.

Yeah thanks everyone for the advice and offers of help. I'm not a complete idiot when it comes to versus, but I think I probably know why I was kicked off both times. I'll try not to make either of those mistakes again! My steam ID is flynnious. I'll add Claudia when I get home and hope to join you for some laughs and progress along my learning curve soon! In case it matters to the connection, I'm in the UK.
