Hitting a hunter in the face mid jump with a thrown object like a gas can will stop the pounce like a melee attack??

I swear I did this the other night and wasnt sure if the buckshot spray took him out of the air before he hit the ground or if the hit sound of the gas can striking him before it exploded in a hail of lead was what stopped the pounce.

Either way the guy went down before he touched the ground again with me getting credit for the kill. The jerry can did make contact with the hunter near the apex of his jump and I did hear the clank of a can making contact with a human object before it exploded from our rain of 00.

I laughed so hard I cried.

Has anyone else seen something to this effect?

The explosion must have killed him, and someone else set it off. Would've been awesome if you would have recorded it though.

Can't say i can, but this would happen so rarely and would be so convoluted to set up as to make it a very unviable tactic to use regulaly.

well, in my opinion, i think this happened at random. your teammate must have gotten the kill because someone might've threw the gas can at the hunter, and at that same moment, some other survivor shot the hunter and the gas can while in mid-air. this happened to me a couple of times, but without the hunter, only the gas can being burnt in my face.

Well... I'm pretty sure it was my first hit with the shotgun that killed him, as I got credit on the screen for killing the guy.

What happened was we were on death toll versus, as we were leaving out from the church going to the alley with the van you climb up before the offices over the event area.

I was running with a gas can and was turned towards those houses on your left... watching my friends get swarmed with infected. I heard the hunter crouch behind me and turned around prepared to swing since he hadn't pounced yet. As i faced him he started to pounce so I twitched up and started spamming the trigger to toss the can and shoot him during the jump towards me.

He started the pounce right about the time I chunked the fuck out of the can. I was aimed about the height the hunter stands above his head while crouched, and he was roughly 20-30 feet away from me. The can caught him right in the face with a clang right as my first shots left the barrell, and my buddy started spraying shotgun in that direction bursting the gas can.

It happened so quick it was hard to tell, but it looked like the hunter stopped as the can hit him, in the same pose they make when you melee stop them. I believe it did stop him because normally a hunter continues his arc when he dies mid jump, or flies off wildly in a physics nightmare. This guy just dropped right about where the gas can hit him.... dead... and burning.

I sorely regret not turning fraps on that night, as this was the funniest thing I think I have ever seen while playing this game. The poor hunter had been getting his ass handed to him for a few games, but just wouldnt give up. I would've had to rage quit if I had died like that.... thats got the be the luckiest hunter kill possible in this game.

Does sounds like the can stopped him. But your shotty most likely killed him. Not the can.

Might be something you'll want to try in single player, just spawning hunters and propane tanks until you can make it happen again? lol

The shotty killed him, but the Gas Can stopped his pounce. Surgica1 has done the same only with a molotov. It is possible, but rare.
