I need help with my sister's computer. I guess she downloaded something from Limewire that mustve screwed up her computer big time. Now everytime she turns on the computer it wont let her go on start up. Then a blue screen goes up saying "An Error has Occured" so i'm guessing this is the famous blue screen of death. But I cant go to the utility options to change things or try to fix it.

And I know that there are alot of you who are smart as hell with computer stuff. So can anyone tell me what to do so I can fix her computer?

Get into safe mode. Just press F8 on start-up and choose it from there. Then download some antivirus and see what happens from there. If you're running XP though use "pc restore" in safe mode. I'm a computer guru too lol.

Yeh, it's happened to a friend of mine and me twice. F8 MIGHT help, if you know what you're doing. I think it's something screwed up in the registry that causes it. Only way I've been able to fix it was a system restore.

And don't accidentally format and reinstall your OS, like my friend did.

Put in your Windows Installation disk, when your computer starts up there should be an option saying boot from disk, from there reformat computer, it's really easy.

Alrighty, I figure I might as well post my computer problem in the "Computer Help" Thread. A few months ago my computer started having trouble rebooting, and we found out this was the power supply dying. However, after I installed the new one, my computer will won't shut down unless I hold the button down for 15-20sec. It starts the drocess, and gets to "Saving your settings", then stops. Any suggestions/ideas/help/anything?

If you reformat you will regain none of your files. The only way to beat blue screen.

She said that she tried putting in the Disk and that nothing worked. Of course its what she said she did, she wont let me try it because she said that she already tried it and nothing worked at all. But I'll give it another shot. If it doesnt worked is her computer just f***** or is there another option?

If you cannot get anywhere into your computer the ONLY solution is to reformat, I'm sorry but it's the only way possible, it'll just completely reset your computer to the way it was, if you can't do it yourself bring it to the manufacturer and they'll charge 15 bucks to do it.

Really sorry, new job started, I've been away from home for what seems like weeks.

I'm back all this week though, so will give you a proper step by step guide to this problem if you've not already sorted it.
There are other things to try first before you reformat the computer.
