Actually...
Instead of having the SDK ON the Xbox 360, what if you could get custom content onto the 360? You could upload your map/whatever to a website, the download it on the Xbox as soon as you sign in.
I've noticed several options in the sdk include the Xbox 360, they'll say things like: "This Setting is Reccomended for Low/Medium/Xbox360 Systems" and other things with Xbox360 Mentioned.
You never know.

Do you mean like the way UT3 works with the PC and PS3?

A mapmaker kinda thing like timesplitters hell far cry would fucking kick ass, I dont mean like terrain chainging and that, just have like things to choose from and then walls and items for houses. The big problem is that thing that sets out the paths survivors can take and have the AI director plan out all possible assaults :S I would wait as long as it takes to get that on xbox, til then I'll just make maps on the pc version and just play them with 2 or so friends if they havnt gotten bored of the game already :/

Completely ridiculous and out of question. How would Microsoft make money?

M$ Charges a fee for downloads to be put up on the marketplace. (Unless the content is sponsored)

I doubt something as complex as the source SDK couldn't ever really be translated fully onto a console.
A download system for custom content however...

Something like Bungie.net downloads would be cool. We've seen content load within minutes/seconds with Halo. A system like in Halo would be cool where if you play a map, it goes into your recent history and you can DL permanently, if you know what I mean. It would just be a matter of getting through Microsoft.

yeah
the majority of games i've played on the 360 with map editors (most recent farcry 2) the do it yourself stuff is a bit of a fad. People mostly like familiar maps and once you get an online community doing their own stuff, you're just playing loads of different levels and never staying with the ones which are actually any good. Then the fad dies out and it's back to the ready made ones, or something which isn't that good.
I actually liked the 'every game happens on a completely new map' aspect of far cry 2 mp, but not many other people do, so the amount of people out there playing is reduced. I can imagine people quitting all over the place as soon as they decide they don't like a new campaign.
If they could randomise existing maps a bit to make them moderately different each time, that might be a more practical compromise, or allow us to download existing custom stuff
The biggest problem i've had with L4D is getting a good random game when friends don't want to kill zombies. I'm not sure a map editor would fix that even if the 360 was up to it.

HERE HERE!
That would be awesome. And still allow the Xboxers to have some custom content.

Why not let Valve choose the cream of the custom crop, then release "Community Map Pack"s? Wouldn't use up their time, and they already said they're giving out 360 DLC for free.

That sounds like a pretty good idea actually. Wish it would happen.

This thread made me sh!t brix till i noticed the "fantasy" part...
Seriously though, an SDK for the xbox would be the biggest invention since the AI director.

Like I said earlier... I think it would be VERY possible that Valve could develop a system to create custom content on the computer and upload it to the Xbox 360.
I'm going to bet you all ONE MILLION TRILLION INTERNET POINTS that ValvE already has something similar planned.

They could, maybe if they made it to where you had to subscribe to something like "Valve PRO" in order to upload custom content.
shit, microsoft dont profit from halo map editor. but halo is a microsoft owned game so.......................yea

Valve should pick they're favorite custom maps and make them downloadable from Marketplace

SDK for Xbox360? That is ridiculous! Were talking about the souce engine here. People would think, "HEY GUIS L3TZ MAEK TEH HOGE MAPEZ LIKE FARCRY!!!!111!!". What people don't understand is that you can't build huge enviroments but only sections inside of a small cube like map. In the end your stuck with small terrain with only limited possibilities with the source engine. It wouldn't be fun also because SDK is far more complex than that of the FarCry 2 map editor.

Actually, what would prevent them from simply adding the functionality of the newest PC update to the 360 version? It has built in support for 3rd party maps in a .vpk format. If they could simply tool the 360 version to support .vpk they could then put in a USB Thumbdrive support to allow you to make/download campaigns in a 360 format and then plug the drive in to the 360 and let you play the maps. It could use a system similar to Halo3 where the 1st time you play it auto-downloads it and gives you the option to save it to the HD. This way you could get the custom content on your HD and not have to use the thumbdrive constantly.

... And the fact that someone had said (don't quote me) that Valve said that they would THINK about releasing user-made maps every month for the 360 if they found some good ones.
But yes, I made some ridiculously good leves (with some good AI) in Timesplitters: Future Perfect. Unfortunately, I think with the AID in L4D, you wouldn't be able to specify where the infected were and that type of thing... Which would suck.

This. You would have to be content with a very very watered-down version of the SDK. I mean, there are thousands of entities and textures and props. Not having a keyboard to type in (i.e. search) for all of these things would be insanely tedious.
Valve should pick they're favorite custom maps and make them downloadable from Marketplace
They already planned to do that, Valve themselves said that in a couple interviews a while bacj, it just aint out right now because the SDK just came not long ago, so its still in the early stages, I dont think we will see any custom contect on the 360 till next year, when there would be a lot more of custom content.

This is true.
As I said earlier, Bungie.net has a system of downloading custom maps from their website straight into your copy of Halo 3 (As long as you are connected to XBL). This could be easily applicable to L4D, albeit with a limit to custom content (100 pieces would be my guess, every map (Not campaign) would be a piece), and with sites like FPSBanana, Valve could release a patch for 360 that creates an L4D folder on your computer and you can rip content straight from that site.
I really see no flaws, at least none that the PC doesn't already have (Wallhacks, Aimbot, n00b-Friendly overly colourful skins). So in conclusion, having an SDK, or at least a content Porter, could work either way. The regular players will get their content, and the griefers have more ways to grief.

As cool as it would be to get some custom maps for 360. I would prefer getting a couple of legit ones from Valve soon. However I am doubtful about that as well.

Yea see what i dont get is how come Bungie can do that.
But Valve cannot?
