personaly i would like to see a map when you already start at the evac point, the mission would be to go to diffrent areas and try to help pepole get back. i doubt it would actualy work, but it would be a good change of pace from the "OMG RUN FOR YOUR FRIGGIN LIVES TO THE AREA WITH THE HELLICOPTER THAT HAS PEPOLE WHO ARE SOMEHOW IMMUNE LIKE WE ARE PILOTING IT!" kind of mission.

I think the army would do that sort of thing :o

katrina was also the sort of thing the army should have done but didnt. at any rate, the army would take survivor voulinteers, after all, being immune deffinitly seems like a rare ability, and i doubt most of the army has it.

The survivors arent immune :O they just... survived. Im sure if they get bitten they would turn into one. Valve did tests with that, letting Survivors becoming Infected when killed, but it didnt work, so they didnt implement it.

Nah, the suvivors actually are somehow immune. The virus doesn't spread by biting. The virus just happened to turn the others into flesh eating monsters, so the suvivors are trying to avoid getting eaten and such.

Found a picture of an army truck thats crashed. And many other Infected pictures with Infected Soldiers. Wooow, looks like the army has taken a serious blow in L4D. http://www.shacknews.com/screens.x/left4dead/Left+ 4+Dead/1/060407/ZoeyHumVee.jpg (http://www.shacknews.com/screens.x/left4dead/Left+4+Dead/1/060407/ZoeyHumVee.jpg)
Ok, ive accepted the bit about them being immune. Yeah, Rescue missions could be an AWESOME map type ^^ Just wondering though. Will it become a little Counter Strike-ish? Think of the Infected as terrorists... and the Survivors as Counter terrorists... and the people in need of rescue could be the hostages. For some reason, im ok with that. A bombing mission could be good... oh wait, im getting carried away.

with the limmited ammo, no respwans, enemys that are stronger than you, unco-operative civilians, and the fact that you probably will have to defend the base from an invasion final game with the help of anyone you rescued, no... unless in counter strike you can give the hostages guns...

this late in development it would be a bad idea to tack on, but if the game came out earlyer, i wouldnt mind doing a bit of managment, like finding food, building defences... it would make it seem more like survival, and less like run and gun with a strong chance of death.

I read in a PC gamer magazine (this one comes from the hourses mouth actualy, according to them atleast)
That there is another city map, that ends in an airport.
A night-time rural map. and a map on a foggy day in the corn fields...
I can imagine the corn fields already, the thick fog drifting over the tops of corn stalks as tall as a man. the four of you carefuly brushing stalks out of the way as you slide carefuly through the corn field. Suddenly some one yells 'Hunter' and begins to shoot, every one turns and also fires a few rounds into a man shaped object. Then they stop, noticing that it's floating in mid air. Upon closer examination it was just a scare crow. But then the worst happens, you come to a small circular clearing, you can hear the growls all around you. And then, they come, hundreds of Infected streaming from the thick forest of corn-stalks. You can't see them until they emerge into the clearing, all you know is you're surrounded. One of your buddies screams, and starts fireing his Uzi into the brush, zombies blast out of the thickets and dive ontop of you, ripping you to peices.
All because you shot a scare-crow.
I can't wait for the corn field ;3

Neat idea, but the rabies virus, like most viruses, is not capable of cross-species infection in a large scale.
DanDaMan

it wouldn't be exactly counterstrike because there are many many territorists, the terrorists don't have guns, the terrorists are trying to kill both you and the hostages, and the terrorists are mindless zombies... and there are no flashbangs... and de_dust will not be included.

Ok for maps I would like to see, them include:
A 2 tier Mall. What zombie game DOESNT have a mall. Maybe start in the garage and make your way to the roof, then use the roof to get on a nextdoor building and go from there. The Mall is an endless Fun-Gasm of Zombie Carnage, it's a must have
Maybe a Highway related map. Walking threw woodlands to stumble onto a Interstate, LIttered with cars and debris, as well as fire. Then find a massive, but passible, barricade like in 28 days later, then use the Air Raid horn they had to signal the Heli.
How bout a Neighboorhood. Rather than the 'Urban' run-down area's, you could do a 'well-off' neighboorhood as in the start of Dawn of the Dead. Traverse the houses to get...... somewhere.......... kinda doesnt work but. WAIT, go threw the neighboorhood to get to a Huge Manison, that has a heli-pad. Haha
A military area. Or atleast an area covered in destroyed military equipment. Then the map would end on a Carrier that is ... sinking? Maybe just un-able to move, so a Heli. would have to evac. you.
I got a dumb map. One the side of Mt. Everest. Your team must hike two miles from the spawn point up the Mt. were there is flat ground for a successful extraction. Nothing funnier than the one kid trying to kill all the zombies, just to fall off Mt. Everest. *lawl*

All i know is that it was a PC gamer about PC hardwear (mostly). It was new(er) than the other two, those being the Sup-Com and C&C3 mags. I hope that helps...Otherwise i can tell you tomorrow, when i go back to get ANOTHER shot. wee.

04-24-2007, 11:45 AM
I would like to see a map that takes place years after the zombie outbreak, It could start off with the four of you in a community set up by the survivors, with everything peaceful.
Then a massive infected attack occurs and you have to escape the settlement with chaos all around you (NPC survivors fighting and dying) and make your way to the closest surviving shelter.
The next part could consist of you traveling through an abandoned area, demolished buildings, fading paint and rusting cars surround you. However the city is not dead, Infected crowd it to the very corners. Infected that haven't had anything to kill in a long time.
Following that you could travel through woods in which absolute quiet reigns, at least until the first of the infected fall on you.
It could end with the team reaching what they thought was safety, only too discover that this safe place has also been overrun
The biggest reason that I like this idea is that it illustrates the apocalyptic effect that the zombies would have on the world. The enviroment could be made to really represent this , for example, I picture the city part happening on a grey and rainy day with little touches to show that there used to be humans here. A toy abandoned in the street, cars with the keys in the ignition etc. You could also find abandoned caches of ammo and such
To be honest, I like this idea mainly for its theatrical value. The fact that it could create a world where humans are now hunted and killed, and do so very clearly.

Here's an idea I came up with awhile ago. Good to see there making an airport level.
The survivors would be stranded on a highway in the pouring rain (perhaps a huge bridge over the ocean) because their transportation crashed or couldn't get through. They load up on the supplies in their truck and have to make their way down a long highway filled with burning cars and flipped over trucks. The dead would be coming from ahead and behind and the hunters could use the bridges supports above the road as a means of getting around unnoticed.
The highway would be to a city and the survivors would eventually have to make their way off of an exit and into the city. They would head down and make their way to an airport after fighting through the abandoned city.
The fight would then continue through the desolate airport, where the climax of the action would take place, until they made it to a landing pad on the roof.

i think there should be a level where your pleasure cruise went wrong...very wrong.
your sailing along on your cruiser(during this time you gather your stuff)when suddenly,BOOM!the ship shakes violentlyand explosions ring out in the background.
what the hell was that everyones wondering, your ship has just collided with another ship which is loaded with zombies,DUN DUN DUN!!!
you keep fighting them off and keeping them off your ship, and you notice there not stopping OMG WHAT DO WE DO?!?!? THIS IS LIKE THE TITANIC!!! WITH ZOMBIES!! you have to blow up the ship preset C4s or something and escape on a life boat that was never there before.
well what do you think?
hooray for zombies
04-25-2007, 10:23 AM
while that is a pretty good idea, there have been so many cruise ship ideas, that I'm honestly getting tired of them.
I would love to see a map based in a funhouse. "is that a mirror or a zombie?" "Which of those 4 boomers is the real one?" It could bring the freak out to a whole new level.

How bought a Prison? 3-4 layers of reinforced fence assures that the surivors can not run away from the imminent Doom. Not to mention it would be just freaky.
I just thought of this one, since everyone for some dumb reason thinks we should all flock to Wal-Marts in the event of a zombie tragedy, there should be a part where you have to traverse a Wal-Mart. And just to prove everyone that the Wal-Mart is the worst place to go, There could be like 90 zombies in there. That will teach you all not to try and barricade yourself in the Wal-Mart :]
Movie Theater. Nothing funnier than to walk into a screening of 'GrindHouse' and see all the audience is dead. Not due to the virus, just because of how stupid the movie is, Bored literally to Death !!! *Lawl*. WE all no that the climax would have to be in the Room screening '300'. Tank busts down the wall and You all cry, "FOR SPARRTAA!!!
How bought a zoo? I am not suggesting resident evil thing with the animals as zombies, but just zombies, in a zoo that for no reason has no animals. Maybe they all got loose, I dont know
A school of some sorts. Maybe a college or High school, however a college campus could provide alot of possiblities. You would just have to avoid any direct references to current events that all. Maybe you can find out were the Rabis virus mutated <.< College experiment gone wrong and the wholle world ends
How about Washington, DC. Have all the the momuments there as well. Running from infected passed the Lincoln Memorial, Tank breaks down a wall only to be standing on the Declaration of Indepence. And in the end you will be fighting all the infected politians in Congress :D

Creepy Castle/ Mansion: Destroyable knight's Armor decor, Dimmly lit rooms, spooky paintings, etc.
Sewers: Streams of guck + Zombies. Claustrophobic tunnels, zombies climbing through man holes.
Train/ subway: Imagine climbingt ontop of box carts or max trains, zombies scratching on your toes.
Central park: Open fields = danger.
Skyscraper: Start from the bottom going up. 100 stories of zombie scum. Manipulate through waves of zombies by climbing up elevators shafts, taking the stair cases, etc. Zombies climb up the sides of the building and bust through the windows for a great surprise.

Ever since playing onesmallshamble on Zombie Master, I wouldn't mind a "space" map. There'll probably be a custom one though, somewhere down the line. Aside from that, I'm fine with whatever urban maps I can get my hands on just prior to release. Good city maps seem rare in steam games.

Except that a space map wouldn't fit L4D at all... You can just as easily make a Government facility just like one small shamble. I don't think it needs to be in space, the only aspect of being in space that actually plays a part in onesmallshamble is the airlock room.

The place they did that stuff in though is really cool... very horror movie-esque although the movie was just make you puke movie.
Gotta like hostel for giving props to canadians though... Two americans worth one canadian haha... gross but... haha
For a map id like it to be the area where I lived. The maps would be divided into:
1: First area/start is my school, pretty big, two floors and a basement. A lot can go on there, has a double... thingum parking lot for crazy ass fights that you'd have to pass through to proceed. A bit off from my school is a fire department, so that could be a checkpoint/re arming place, dont know if they carry guns but first aid. You'd have to run this part while fighting off zombies on the streets... opposite my school is a huge forest btw, where zombies will spawn out of.
2. Second map is another really long road down. It's got a bunch of houses so this will be the rural-ish area, where you're going house to house, or just running down the street gunz blazing. Originally I'd hope for it to have a vehicle in, because in real life the road is like 3-5 minutes stretch in a vehicle, but it can be shortened for the games sake. Either that or code in a vehicle, it wont take you all the way down... maybe a scripted crashing into tank scene and you're on foot again.
3. Third map starts at a bus station which is at the bottom of the road, across the streeet are two pretty big malls seperated but still are the same mall... no doubt action and stuff goes on there. Third map is only the station and the first mall though, and maybe the parking lot... its not tiered like the one at my school just REALLY big. And sometimes those carnival things come there... so that'd be pretty cool... deserted carnival.
4. Fourth map is the second mall, this mall has a knife shop too lol... and most of the stuff they carry is definately not kitchen material. They have trench knives there and broad swords... so if they were ever to implement melee, this is where i'd get my stuff. There's a really big GAP store at this mall. And in the store there's an area where a bunch of mannequins are laid out which i;d think would look cool during a gunfight...
5. fifth map is the car dealership a bit off from the mall... you find a car and escape... yeah kinda ran outta ideas by the end but you can see how my little area could be really cool for a zombie fight.
Also, in real life you can cut through that forest to get to the mall... a forest would be raeally cool in l4d.

Some form of Canyon map where the survivors have to get through this canyon. Zombies would appear from small cracks in the walls and be able to get on top of the walls at either side, specially for you smokers ;0. The narrow thin aspect of the map would make it pretty scary if confronting a tank

Well, I have a idea :P
Train. The survivors make it onto a train, after running out of bullets, and being cornered and forced to escape on the train. Little do they know, the train track had not been complete, and there is a bridge that hasnt been complete. They find this out in a manuscript at the back of the train, but the train has already started, and they dont know how to stop it, so they figure there's a emergency button at the front of the train, so they make their way to the front of the train, and press the emergency button, which is about to break in 15 seconds, then the survivores have to make their way back as soon as possible to the back of the train. Then the train stops, but half of it goes over the bridge, so the front half is dangling over the bridge, and the back half is still standing. And if you didnt make it back to the back half of the train, then the survivores fall, but they can stop themself by grabbing onto the bagracks which could act as a ladder, or the very front window, which survivores can grab onto the window frame, or just fall out of the window into the ocean and die. Obviously if they grab onto the window frame, another survivore has to climb down the bag racks and help them up before they die. Once they climbed up the train, and through the train (obviously zombies not spawning on the front half of the train) and out of it, they see a boat with survivores at the bottom of the canyon, and they need to find a way to the bottom of the canyon and swim to the boat.
Maybe if the train hall is blocked, then they could climb up a ladder to get onto the roof, which they have to crawl on (cause maybe if they stand up, the wind sweeps them away) and get to the next carriage. And when they have to get to the bottom of the cliff, they find a bunker like thing, thats full of elevators and rooms and stuff, for zombies to spawn in and stuff. The bunker could have been for survivores, but the infection got in there, and the survivores of their caravan got onto the boat through the bunker.
Lol, thats my crazy idea!
Plankie
06-30-2007, 02:38 AM
Sounds exciting. Very cinematic. Although you mention something about an emergency button that you have to press, and something about it dangling in the air. What if the survivors push the button too early? or too late? In that case, I think there wouldn't have to be any button. Something else should happen, something scripted. Perhaps it derails and then it starts to dangle? Hmm... Sounds kind of hard to make... But good idea anyway.

Someones going to make the RPD station. Someone always does, I imagine it'll be badass.
A large Mall is a must, no question about it.
Off topic but me and some forum mates from Bf2s.com had the idea of creating a "Zombie Survival Sim" type game, this was about a year ago now. I had a story set up for it too, another person drew a couple of bits of concept art. We didn't end up doing much, just writing a story for the start of the game, deciding on a few characters and deciding that the main character's signature weapon would be a broken lawnmower-blade attached roughly to a headless hatchet handle - the reasons being a small tribute to the lawnmower scene in "Braindead" and also 'cause it looked wicked.
Basically it was going to be story driven for the start of it, then be a big free-roaming enviroment where you'd just have to survive, find other survors, barricade houses, find weapons etc. etc. and if one wanted to continue the story they could go to one of four selected areas, (the School, the Police Station, the Mall and the Hospital,) and eventually after these places had been "explored" a military extraction point, (the last part of the game would play out very similarly to Left 4 Dead.)
It was a good idea but we lacked technical knowlege and time, but it would be a great thing to go back to, might work as a mod for Left 4 Dead.
