In this thread you can talk about your opinion on the current weapons, weapons that you would like to see in future updates, and changes you would want to make to the current ones.
Currently I think that the current load-out of equipment they have set up is suffice enough for a fun, 45-60 minute campaign. The weapons are diverse enough to satisfy the needs of a long range shooter to a rusher.

Some people have complained that the weapons are unrealistic.. "OMG 50 ROUND M16 NO WAI" But you should keep in mind that they realize what they are doing isn't 100% Realistically accurate and are balancing graphics with game-play while keeping the game creative and original.
I've heard rumors that TRS will be adding new weapons to the game, now this could mean anything from lead pipes, to chainsaws. Since they are planning on doing that, they are most likely planning on adding new levels to the game, so that the new weaponry added will become somewhat useful.
The weapons currently in the game include;

The Springfield arms M1911A1 Double action pistol.
Pros:
- Secondary weapon that comes in handy when there is no time to reload.
- Able to Dual Wield During later maps in the campaign
- Large Clip capacity
Cons:
- Weak firearm
- Poor accuracy

Pump Action 12 Gauge Shotgun.
Pros:
- Extreme FirePower
- Fast Reloading
Cons:
- Low Shell Capacity
- Short Range
- Low Accuracy
- Single Shot

IMI Uzi Sub-Machinegun
Pros:
- Moderate Firepower
- High Clip Capacity
- High Rate of Fire
Cons:
- Low Accuracy
- Short Range

M16A2 Infantry Rifle:
Pros:
- High Clip Capacity
- High Rate of Fire
- Firepower
- Accuracy
- Moderate Range
Cons:
- Not a short Range weapon of choice

Benelli Automatic shotgun
Pros:
- High Rate of Fire
- Extreme Firepower
Cons:
- Range
- Shell Capacity

Semi-Automatic Hunting Rifle
Pros:
- Extreme Accuracy & Range
- Moderate firepower
- Mounted sight
Cons:
- Low clip capacity
- Poor Close-range weapon
- Low Rate of fire

Please tell me what your choice of weapon would be in this situation, and perhaps include some items you think should be included in a future update of the game!

Well it's hardly fair to compare all of the weapons together because the Tier 2 weapons were designed to be 'better' since you find them later in the mission.

And with only 5 primary weapons, I could care less which I chose really. The only gun I'd stray from is the auto shotgun. I just dislike them.

But when I jump into the first game with my friends, I'm going to choose whichever weapon is under-chosen from Tier 1, and then the sniper rifle from Tier 2.

For future weapons, I'd like to see some different pistols for start such as an M9 Beretta or a USP. I don't see melee weapons being a huge part of L4D since you rely so heavily on bashing enemies (or teammates, and I'm sure a melee weapon would actually hurt them, unlike bashing with a weapon).

And for other primary weapons, I think a sawed-off shotgun would be in order. And maybe another smg like an MP5 or UMP. And maybe one more automatic rifle. But the game's highlight really isn't weaponry, and I mean there isn't much more else other than pistols, smg's, shotguns, and rifles save machineguns.

OMG just to think I'm gonna be playing it this weekend...hmmm....take Uzi or shotty in beginning....uzi...I don't like the precious second or so in between firing the shotgun....could mean life/death

Yeah, I'm also gonna take uzi when I play-test.

I think if you limit bursts to 2-3 rounds per infected, 1 clip would last longer than the shotty.

And when I say "reloading" with my uzi, it means more.

I'd love a bolt-action rifle. I could just feel the gun bleeding intensity because of the time between shots. Mmm.. heart race central.

Yeah a bolt action rifle would make a lot of sense for the first tier of weapons.

this is probably the only game where i would actually choose the shotty, just because there is melee... that makes me feel more assured that i wont get attacked during reloading.
i usually love automatic cuz i dont like the pumping after every shot, but with melee...oh oh oh!

I posted this over on steam, but since it's pretty much the same topic, I guess I'll relay it here too.

What I would like to see is some more secondary choices. For instance...

When getting your round 2 secondary weapon; instead of only being able to grab another colt for Dual Colts, I would love to see...

A Double Barrel Sawed Off Handcannon - Most powerful secondary weapon, with the trade off only two shots per reload. This could be balanced with a fast reload.

A Revolver - More powerful than the Colt, with the trade off of only 6 shots. Somewhat longer reload than Colt and Sawed Off.

Skorpion - Similar to uzi, but with a faster rate of fire. Weaker than colt, but with a 20 round clip. Good for spraying into a huge crowd of zombies on last limb. Reload could be somewhat equivalent to uzi.

That's all I've got so far I think that adding these guns would take a lot of effort balance wise, but would end up giving weapon combinations a lot more depth. Shotgun + Skorpion, M16 + Colt, Sniper + Sawed Off. Could add some more playability.

I'd also like to see a choice of a Magnum Revolver, and/or Double Barrel shotgun to contrast the Auto shotgun, and dual pistols. I also want to point out that the models and skins in this game look fucking amazing, and extremely detailed. I think Turtle Rock and Valve have out-done themselves.

If I had one choice for a pistol, it'd be a revolver. Super slow reload, only 6 shots, really powerful. Mmm. Definitely my favorite weapon in HL2.

yea thats my fav too love the power! I remember reading it would be a good idea to be able to choose a more powerfull single hand gun instead of duel pistols, think that could work but it would take away the simplicity and style that i like about the weapons as they are:)

Revolver would be nice, it could have its own knock back effect like the melee. Imagine shooting a zombie square in the chest and having him fly back and knock a bunch over. COOL.

....The 1911 a weak firearm? That gun can put a hole through a door from 30 yards away. I hope they make the 1911 as powerfull as it really is, even if it is just a backup weapon.

Haven't you seen the in-game videos?

I don't really know what weapons I would like to see per-say, however I think it would be pretty cool if you could mod existing weapons. There could be a workbench in the safe areas that you could interact with and add parts ect. to weapons. Items would be scattered around the map, you could pick up stuff like a knife that you could duct tape on a gun to make a bayonette that adds extra damage to mele, extra mags that could be attached to increase ammo compacity; and scopes that could be attached. From the videos it looks like your using the same few weapons for alot of the level, so why not be able to personalise them with add-ons. It would give that cool scavanger use whatever you can feel, while at the same time stopping the people who bitch "waaaa no weapons, waaa". Its a win-win really :)

It would be difficult to do that whilst still keeping the game realistic in the sense that, it would be hard to find a scope, laser, or melee item to attach to said item. and keeping in mind that you'd have to realistically attach it, because most guns don't allow duct tape being wrapped around them for it would interfere with a pump, mag well, chamber, ejection port, or slide.

Well sure, but military grade weapons lying in a pile down some subway is not exactly realistic either. Perhaps we could narrow it down so there are only a few specific modifications that can be made to guns (ones that could be realisticly made) and parts for those modifications would be lying around in groups. So you would pick up the modification items as one pickup, and then be able to use them next rest spot. You could make it so that each survivor has a different modification that they can make, so they could mod a weapon and use it, or give it to someone else who wants that specific mod for their gun.

ur making the game too complicated... then all ppl would do is go around searching for parts, and either die, or leave the team to die. Pros would know where all the items were, and wouldnt even regard their team, but rather go to get the upgrades...

I would just like them to add some more weapons, instead.
