I volunteered to go to a boot camp for my JROTC class at school. Totally worth it. The highlights would be high COPES which consisted of rappelling off a 50 foot tower and a 30 foot high obstacle course.
Anyone else go to a boot camp or have another awesome experience?

Yeah was in the air cadets in my younger days. Involved lots of shooting, flying, night-time combat simulation ops, traveling, assault courses, the works. Was a laugh.
As of yesterday at about 11am I became Private Tyr of Bravo Company in the New Zealand Army.
Cool eh? My first RIT, (Recruit Initial Training,) starts on Friday.
No jokes about the NZ Military please, I'm entitled to now shoot anyone who does that.

Hopefully bunnies are like Cole (http://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2009/5/27/)
and the aborigines could be easily defeated with good ol' SARS

Yeah I'm part of the Fluffikins Extreme Super navy. I'm leaving tommorow for candy Island. It'll be my most grueling venture yet, we're only allowed one plasma screen television and we have to ration or sugary snacks and Illegal drugs. They say that we may even have to fight aliens

I think Tyr is a pretty cool guy. He kills lots of aliens and doesn't afraid of knife-throwing.
DO YOU SEE MY GENIUS!? NO ONE HAS EVER TAKEN A MEME AND SLIGHTLY CHANGED IT TO SUIT A CURRENT SITUATION.

I don't use memes anymore, but instead, rely on my natural ill-humor. That makes me better than you.
Kneel before me!
... and since when did they teach knife-throwing at boot camp?

I was never taught knife-throwing. Hell, I can't even do that flippy stuff with a butterfly knife.

Ouch. He get pinned to the wall by his hand or something?
There was this cadet in a local squadron that was a living legend of how not to stay alive. When flying in a light plane he turned off the engine 2000 feet up because he wanted to see 'what that button did'. The pilot instructor had to restart the engine and pull it out of a nose dive.
He also nearly blew off an instructors head with a single shot assault rifle on a training course. Basicaly he thought his rifle was jammed, so without putting the safety on, he stood up with it, waved it in the instructors direction saying 'it dont work', at which point he pulled the trigger, firing off the round that blew a hole in the ground a few inches in front of the man.
The guy was just a legend xD

I regret not joining the Army before college. Now I have a shitload of student loan debt, no income, no vehicle. My friend just joined the Guard. I almost followed, but I didn't wanna have to take 18 months out of my schoolwork to go to training. I'm thinking about going for it after I graduate, just so I can have the experience.

AIT lasts different amounts of time depending on the MOS. I was going to go for an intelligence MOS, either 35M or 35P. Both of those require 10-18 weeks of training, not including language training at DLI, which can last to 18 months. The 35P MOS requires that you go to DLI, and that was the one I was leaning towards most. I am taking Arabic right now, but I'm not fluent, so I would have to go.
