Again if their is a thread on this i am sorry but it did not show up when i searched it, anyways.

The Legend of Zelda: THe first game in the series and in my opinion one of the first open world games. You could go anywhere and to any dungeon even though some dungeons would be hard to do with only three hearts or needed amt item from another dungeon, and to top it all off the second Quest after beating it. Only for thoose people who could handle it. Also because peopl are idiot there was controversey over the shape of one of the dungeons because it was in the shape of a swasticca(dont no if i spelled that right),symbol of the Nazis. It is a bhuddist sign for something and thats y it was included.

Zelda II the adventure of Liknk: One of the more different Zelda. It was a side scroller with only three lifes and an exsperiance piont system and some very hard battles with shielded enemys. It did however include for the first time some iconic weapons and the magic meter as well as includeing Shadow link and the triforce of courage.

The Legend of Zelda a Link to the Past: SAid by some to be one of the greatist Zelda games made. It included the idea of the light and dark world and went back to the overhead look. Italso had the first appearnce of the Master SWord. It even has some hidden items and some hard dungeons. Definetly one of my favorites.

THe Legend of Zeda Links Awakening: The firs handheld Zelda game and the firs to happen outside og Hyrule. This also included the first trading sequence in the series and it was not optional since you had to to both tto finish the final dungeon. It also had a hidden dungeon for thoose who got the DX versions for the gameboy color. Oh and zelda is never mentioned except for the begging.

The Legend of Zelda the Ocarina of Time.: AGain one of the best games made for the 64. The game was in 3d, Hyrule was big, and two timelines to travel between time to. It can almost be seen as a reimaging of A link to the Past because it fallows the same basic structure. Get three pendants/stomes items go get mastersword travel to future/dark world save save seven maidens/sages Zelda is the eighth fight ganaondorf?aghnim then defeat GAnon and everything returns to normal. Pretty mauch the smae but i'm not saying ther the same game they are bothe different and two of the best games made.

The Legned of Zelda MAjoras Mask: One the Darker Zelda GAmes made. THis game features the 3 day cylce and a the world of termina. it was a smaller world but more detailed since everycharacter had a set path that you could follow for extra items and mask. It also included the transformation mask and a secreat item if all mask were collect by the end of the game. THe only thing regretable about the game is defeaing the bosses again over and over since after beating each one you would cure that area and after rewinding the clock you have to fight them again to do certain events but the game opens a shortcout to the boss if you beat them all ready and unfortunately this was the game that included TIngle

The Legend of Zelda Oracle of Ages and SEasons: Now i know theese are two seperate games but everyone lumos them together so i am to. Both of theese games take place in two different worlds and you have to save the games coresponding oracles. In seasons you would gain a wand that granted conrol over the seasons and in Ages a harp that lets you travel back in forth throught time. Seasons was primarily action based and ages was more puzles. But if you beat one you got a code to put in at the begining of the other making it look like you went their next and after beating it you got another coded to return to the previous game. Now after beating the second you would also fight Twinrova and gAnanon for the full ending. You could also do a return adventure in the first game.

The legen of Zelda FOur SWord/Four swords adventure: Theese are also two seperate games the first four sword was a multiplayer game that was included with the remake of A link to the past for the gameboy but everybody had to have a copy. All the game was was going through levels and getting enough keys to reseal VAati. This was also his first apperance. Four swords adventure was a sequel/port to the gamecube. This game first retails what woul dhave basically happend in four swords. This game could be palyed with several character but eveybody neede a game boy connected controller so they could see when they went into buildings. But this could also be played in single player with the play controlling all four links by putting them into one for four positions. THe game was also not open worlda, no ruppees and a pont based system based around force gems, also you could only hold onto one item at a time. Still it was fun at times

The legend of Zelda the WInd Waker: The first Zelda game to apper on the gamecube with a very cartoonish look. THis game also included the great sea and it is said to be one of the biggest games worlds made and the link in it is one of the mos detailed and expressive characters. Sailing was the main mechanic in the games as well as finding peices of the triforce just like the first zelda game and retrieveing three items that correspond to the godesses to gain entrance to the area were the master sword is. It also show sthe king of hyrule for the first time. This game also had gameboy connectivity for the Tingle tuner but it was only for extra content. It also had a stealthe levela towards the begging of the game basically turning young link into Solid Snake...with tights.

The Legend of ZElda TH Minish cap: This is the first new Zelda game for the GBA well second if you count four swords any ways it had amazinf graphics for a GBA game as well as changin to the two world ideas to thesame world but with two different perspectives since you cold shrik done to the size of a minish. This games also marks the first chronological appearnce of VAati and his backstory as well as the fou sword. It is said by some to be the first game in the timeline.

The Legend of Zelda TWilight Princes: The first Zelda game for the Wii and te best one yet. THis one keeps the two worlds idea but only for certain sections and feels a little bit like lord of the Rings. Also it has another female lead besides Zelda for Link and Link starts as an adult this time around. He ca also transform into a wolf for certain task abilities and to talk to animals. The one problem i have is like ocaarna of time the WAter Dungeon was to hard since you mostlikely need the guide to get through it. But it includes new items new ways to use them an intrigueing and dark story and Amazing baoss fights

The Legend of Zelda Phantom Hourglass: The first DS zelda game and a direct sequel to Winf WAker. It has good graphics and a decent size overworld for a DS game. The touch mechaincs work impressivley well with combat itmes running around and abusing chickens. Also it is asier for ship control and fights since you use a motor boat instead of a sail boat and you draw your path and you could keep track off notes on your map. Only flaw was the fact that they made a new villian but some could see that as new , but i though vaati should have been in it and for thoose of you who now the splittimeline theory will understand why he would still be alive. Anyway the idea of consatnly returning to one dungeon over and over agin without the ability to star at any floor you cleard with a full timer kinda sucks

The Legend of Zelda Spirits Tracks: The next DS zelda game that is supposd to happen after phantom hour glass but a couple houndred years in the futre. Travel will be by train and it loks like you could control a ohantom from the hourglass game. There is also a four player battle mode. nothing else is realiy nown but if you have info please add

The Legend of Zelda(Wii title): Not musch is nown about this game except for a oicture of zelda a a girl that looks like the Fairy queen from wind waker and some small resembalences to the master swods. Link is also not holding a sword in the picture again not much is nown but it has been development since a year before TWilight Princess was released and myiamoto said hes more concerned a bout finishing the game than makeing videos and deoms for people to see of it. It will not be a sequel to Twilight princess since it is in a different era and it was said Twilight princess was gonna be the last zelda of its kinda making peopl think it might be in firts person or he only meant that because of the touch controls in the DS games. He is hoping for a 2010 release but i think it should be soonier like this christmas

If anyone likes to add ther thoughts or ideas on the new games please add. Also i did not include so of the games like the ones phillips made for their consol because they are not part of the cannon and they sucked as well as the crossbow game and theirs a tingle ballon game and i dont like tingle. You can also discuss timeline theories as well I will post mine later and also post the split timline theory for thoose who dont know it since it is possible that it is true since the music director of the games commented on it. THer is a timelinfor thoose who dont believe me cuz employess have said their is a file on miyamotos computer but it is confiential to him. Even the team doesnt know were in the timeline the game will be when they start it just falls were it may

I was about to say, you've missed the Phillips CD-I games. They were terribly hilarious though.

1. Ocarina of Time
2. Twilight Princess
3. Majora's Mask

My favorite Zelda games. It's sort of a tie between Majora's Mask and Twilight because I had a TON of good moments on Majora. I actually think it's one of the more underrated games of the series. I've only played two Zelda games on Handheld, and I wish they would focus more on console.

I also hope they make a sequel to the original link (the one from Ocarina) or at least provide some clues to what happened to him in their next game.

I love the zelda games. But unfortunaly I must also hate them as they brought that fuckwit tingle into exsistence. Damn you Nintendo. Damn you.
Edit:
1. Ocarina of time
2.Twilight Princess
3.Wind waker (I don't know why but I really enjoyed it more than I thought I would. The only one I have replayed more than three times)

MAjora's maskis a dircet sequel to Ocarina. It is what happens to Link after he goes back in time after defeating GAnon and Navi leaves him in the Temple of TIme. THats why he leaves at the begging and ends up in TErmina and why he stares at Tatl for a sec when he meats her cuz she reminds him of Her

MM (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J8XxuW-Orww) was deep man. Way deep.

Majora's Mask was just too difficult for me. But then again, the last time I played it was a long time ago.

My top favorite has got to be A Link to the Past, fun to play and an easy learning curve.

The best Zelda game is probably Wind Waker.
The runners up would probably be Majora's Mask and Link's Awakening.

The worst game of the series is Phantom Hourglass which was like walking through a park with your mother stopping you every five minutes to show you where the key to the next room is. It was also completely souless.

Twilight Princess and Ocarina of Time were okay.

I also hope they make a sequel to the original link (the one from Ocarina) or at least provide some clues to what happened to him in their next game.

I was always under the impression that Ocarina of Time Link was the Hero's Shade (that undead knight who teaches you new moves.)

Yeh I only didn't like majoras mask when I was a kid cause it was too hard and I wouldn't bother buying the prima guide. Also I had just finished Ocarina of Time and could not accept another zelda game being as good or better. Now that I am wiser now I went to go play MM only to find. MY EXPANSION PACK IS GONE. I have yet to beat the game.

Watching the credits roll for Legend of Zelda on the NES right now.

The first Zelda is unique from any other because its truly an open world, treasure hunting experience. Later games would focus more on linear story progression, which is fine, but none capture the unique gameplay of the original.

I'm debating playing through Link to the Past right now, since I did get pretty far along on the virtual console version before I sold the Wii. Not sure if I'm up for starting over again.

I loved and completed both Links Awakening on the Gameboy and Minish Cap on the GBA. Phantom Hourglass was a travesty that focused on timed gameplay and making me watch a boat for hours.

Majora's Mask is my favorite of the 3D Zeldas, and while Twilight Princess was a good successor to Ocarina, I'd love a game that brought things back the Majora's.

Windwaker was a good game with dungeons on par with the 64 versions but hours on a boat made me switch it off for good. This one only ranks slightly above Phantom Hourglass and the second NES title for me.

Sorry, but the first Zelda was just terrible. Who in christ thought of enemies to be shielded from the front and be programmed to always be facing toward you? That and to find certain dungeons you'd need to go around burning every bush in sight unless you had a guide. No thanks.

WOW Matt... You get so involved when you post these... hahahaha

Yeah, I would have to say OoT is the best out of all of them, I have actually played at least 2/3 of the games, beat them a lot. Here's a clue to how much I loved it: From me at age 8 - today, here's my total repitition count on OoT: 63 and about 1/10 ways (I'm currently in Death Mountain... :D)

So yes. OoT and MM were awesome. TP was a little... less awesome. The original was hard as hell. The second one, not so much. A Link to the Past was pretty damn cool, I beat that a few times. Wind Waker was alright, I just thought the whole "travel with the WIIIIIND!!!!" thing to be annoying after a while (the whole music instrument thing WASN'T revived). But, everyone has amazing music; Nintendo has one of the greatest composers in their ranks, Mr. Koji Kondo!!!!! Yay.

And BTW Steve... I think you're right about the Shadow Knight guy in TP........ He fits.

Oh I swear the entire time while fighting those. You forgot to mention that in some rooms with those guys, you've got invulnerable speedy tracking balls of death that make it so you can't use your sword for a brief period of time, turrets spewing balls of energy at you, and guys that will hold onto you and destroy your expensive shield if they touch you.

And there's only one bush that you need to burn to actually get into a dungeon and I remember finding that one when I was a kid because its such a questionable bush. Other concealed dungeons you can find clues for. There are npcs that give information all over the place. Like I said, its a nonlinear treasure hunting game. Very different gameplay that caters to a different player base. To call it terrible is just silly.

And another thing. Back in the day when I was too young to play, I demanded that my mother play while I pretended. She beat Legend of Zelda without any guides.

I just beat Majora's Mask again the other day, this time I took the time to get all the masks and get Deity Link. That was WAAAY more easier than beating Majora the old fashioned way. Now I can go back and beat all the bosses with Deity, but I think Majora's Mask is probably my new favorite.

Ahh so much nostalgia in this thread :|

I played most of the LoZ, granted no DS or Wii titles but every one I've played I loved (besides the II, I suck hard at platformers.)

I'd say Majora's Mask was my favorite, but they were all so unique it's too hard to choose...

Great, it's one in the morning and all I can think about is digging out my old systems and playing some oldschool zelda. -_-

You know, I was just thinking about why I like LoZ so much, and this nails it. Every game has the same core Zelda gameplay with a twist that makes it radically different from any others. MM with the 3 day cycle, TP with the wolf, WW with the sea, and OoT with the time travel. The series blends nostalgia and familiarity with fresh ideas seamlessly.

Yeah the warrior dude from twilight Princess i think is the link from Oott. Maybe. If it was it would not fit in with the timeline but it could be another previous reincarnatio of Link.

The only reason it doesnt fit the timeline is cuz TP, WW, PH, and Spirit TRacks happen in the time period that continues from the future that link leaves behind at the end of Oot.

I think I've figured out why MM was such a drag for me. I very much enjoying taking my time to comb through whole games. The time limit in this game made this very hard. I also hate doing boss fights again. I hate the fucking bull thing. And the fish thing. And the fucking not having a horse. And having no fucking arrows or bombs. God I hate that game.

I'm going to go play it.

So long as you knew to play the song of time backwards to slow down time the negative aspects of time restrictions were almost removed and it brought a lot of nifty time based things like NPC schedules over a 3 day period. Never had any problems clearing a dungeon so long as I began on Day 1 and played in slow time.

And the whole thing that Zelda has kinda farsed MGS twice: In the Deku Palace, and is WW in the fortress... Hiding in a barrel? O rly??!?!?!

It's a super interesting ARG. Jadusable is actually making a amnesia style game about it, with a trailer due this week.
