As most of you may know, EA has gobbled up Pandemic/Bioware studios for a silly amount of money.

As usual the bosses at these studios say it's the best thing because thay will still operate independantly but have uber resourses that EA offer. Yeah, ok guys, we'll see how you do after one of your new games doesn't sell a bucket load in the first weekend.

Anyway, after reading the Gamespot forums on this subject (the usual calls about doomsday etc etc) someone remarked about EA trying to screw around with the wikipedia entry regarding critisims. So i went on wiki and found the following:

'Editing of Wikipedia
On August 15, 2007 it was revealed that IP addresses registered to EA had made changes to its Wikipedia entry favoring EA.[30][31] The changes made included downplaying the importance of the founder of EA, Trip Hawkins, as well as playing up the importance of former CEO, Larry Probst.[30] Other changes included attempts to remove information regarding the infamous EA Spouse scandal, which involved the poor treatment of workers. In addition, several paragraphs under criticism were removed completely. [30]

EA's response was that "Many companies routinely post updates on websites like Wikipedia to ensure accuracy of their own corporate information."[32] It did not, however, address the specifics of the changes.'

Now to me this shows how controlling the company is. I've just never forgiven EA for snapping up the NY dev company that produced the Desert Combat mod for BF1942, only to fold it and jettison over half the staff just before BF2 was released!

Gripe away fella's. You'll feel much better for it.

from the beginning iv hated EA people always wondered why, now i have acctuly had people come up to me and tell me i was right. EA is quickly becoming the Walmart of video gaming. and not to bash sony fans but sont has been doing very similar things lately, lieing bashing composition in the most childish way, editing Halo3's wiki to say its going to be a bad game.

Actually i've got to make a correction. It was DiCE that bought Trauma (The DC devs) then shut them down.

DiCE said they were being generous by offering the remaining workforce jobs at their Swedish head office!!! Trauma was in New York City ffs!!!!!!! Loada crap.

We must not forget that the gaming industry is still about making money. Not every company can afford to work for the sake of gaming itself, as much as Valve seems to be able to. ;)

Valve/TRS FTW!

The game industry is exactly the same as any other form of entertainment industry, like Music/Films.

There will always be big named corperate giants that spew out mediocre shit, but there are always the Bands/Developers/Directors that are doing what they do not only for money, but for the art and there passion for doing what they do.

Valve are a brilliant example of company that make games not only for money but, u can see in the games design how much they enjoy what they do.

Another good comparison is Britney Spears and TOOL... (Electronic Arts and Valve)

u get the idea...

One interesting thing to note with EA is that they're trying to reform this whole image that they've developed (due I think to their CEO being bought up by Microsoft?) At any rate, they have some new game in production right now thats going to be a survival horror set in space that looks promising (it was on the cover of a recent game informer magazine, I'll get the name when I get home). Buying up Bioware, which is known for nothing but quality games, may be a sign of things to come.

And when we look at EA as a corporate giant buying out little companies etc etc, we might want to look at the huge success of Steam and the number of companies its taking under its belt.

I've always hated EA but I'll give them a chance if they say they want to change.

As far as EA goes, I think it's not good for the market for any one corporation to get too big.

I knew EA was questionable, but now I know why... I'll stick to Valve and Epic Games for now.
