View Full Version : My Orange Box is fucked up.

When I got on today I found that all my Orange Box games are fucked, and by all I mean Ep2, Portal and TF2... didn't check the rest. They seem to have a tear in the top left hand corner of my screen like so:

It may also be worth noting that this happened in Fortress Forever as well, and perhaps might have something to do with my texture settings not saving when I quit the game, or maybe at all.

If anyone can help it'd be much appreciated... time to copy and paste it into every forum I know.

Edit: Reinstall didn't seem to have an effect.

Is there anything on the CD? Or did you buy it over steam? Could be some kind of graphic card issue?

What do you mean? The game doesn't run with the CD, and it worked the first couple of days I had it... FF did however last longer before it fucked up.

If it happens in fortress forever that may be a bad sign. Turn all your settings to the lowest possible and see if its still there. Toggle v sync off or on. If it is still there, it maybe a hardware issue.

If so wouldn't it have occured the first time I played it? Not 3 or 4 days afterwards. I haven't had this problem in any other game outside STEAM and probably more specifically, Source, so... The last thing I have left is drivers, and as far as I know there aren't any newer ones. Something between last night when I played it last without problems and 4PM tonight changed with my computer, and I have to figure it out...

Edit: It would appear that lowering the resolution makes the tear encompass more of the screen. I play it natively at 1440x900 if that is relevant.

Edit: Edit: Lowering my settings made the tear bigger also, the top of the tear seems to show (albeit in a distorted fashion) what would be on the bottom of my screen.

Well so far its Episode 2, Portal, Team Fortress 2 and a while ago Fortress Forever.

CS:S checks out fine right now, CoD4 is fine also...

I've been doing that, so far none... that helped.

C'mon guys!!! As much as I'd like to say I can live without TF2...

Could be something do with the in game overlay? They released an update yesterday to do with some bugs relating to it.

I take it you've downloaded the latest drivers that specifically improve compatibility with the OB?

Not if there is something wrong with the hardware your using. Then it can show up whenever the fuck it wants.

i want to get portal and tf2, cuz they look fun, but i dont want to get ep2 cuz i have never played any of the others and i might be confused.
i would just buy the orange box if i wanted ep2 as well, and i know that if i buy them separately(if u even can yet) that i prob. will be 'losing' money
im sure the box has some deal in the price

But it can't be a coincidence it happens to all my new Orange Box games, I don't doubt theres something wrong but it must be something a tad bit more specific. In the mean time I've installed it on another computer... both of my other computers, IT CAN'T STOP ME!... seriously, I'd prefer it not to be broken.

Edit: Thanks a bunch Qouti, it worked out. Although it did say my graphics cards weren't verified by Microsoft and it may cause harmful damage to my computer now or in the present. But I guess I'll cross that bridge when I reach it.

That wasn't referring to the card, but rather the driver. It's a beta, so it's to be expected that it'd blurt that nonsense.
