I would say...

a decent prosesor at least 5600Mhz (multi core if possible)

2 gig of memory

512mb GPU or SLI 256mb gpu's

I don't think the game will need much more then the orange box requirments anyway:)

You do know that the specs in your post are -much- higher than OB's requirements?

Pentium 4 processor (3.0GHz, or better), 1GB RAM, DirectX® 9 level Graphics Card

I'd say the requirements for L4D will be similar. There probably will be more benefit from a multi-core CPU, though.

Yea thats a little extreme. That's if you want a FLAWLESS framerate with no slow downs at all. The game doesnt look like it would take a whole ton to be able to play well, but Im thinking a lot of ram would be a good choice for all the enemies on screen at once.

Take it you've got an AMD 4200?

You do realise the 4200 doesn't mean 4200mhz?

The 4200 is 2.2ghz (2200mhz)

the 5600 is 2.8ghz

the 5600 is 2.8ghz

hmm might go for the 6000 + then

When you use SLI, or Crossfire, the amount of ram isn't combined. It shares a single amount.

For example: Two 256mb 7600GTs in SLI will only have access to a total of 256mb of video memory.

Also, looking at the amount of memory a video card has should be one of your last concerns. Its a marketing ploy to suck noobs into thinking a $150 512mb GDDR2 card is better than a $300 320mb GDDR3 card.

Lastly, you cannot compare AMD and Intel processor speeds based solely on GHZ. You have to consider the core architecture, and the amount of processor cache. Sure, the more GHZ the better, but when you're comparing AMD to Intel frequencies its like comparing apples to oranges.

A 2.4ghz X2 AMD is faster than a 2.4GHZ Pentium D, but a 2.4ghz Core 2 Duo is faster than them both.

id be excited if the zombies are controlled by one core and the game is running on the other one. have a core dedicated directly to zombies and zombie AI should mean more zombies on screen with less slowdown.

Yea that would be good, its gonna use all cores in some way so should be good. Talking about multi core use, when are other source games like cs and tf2 gonna use multi core? i know tf2 uses is it a bit for particle effects etc but surley they should be using full multi core support by now, just the fact that when i play css and one core isnt even being toched is just shit!

No matter what the rest of the specs are.

Your graphics card is pretty useless, you'll need a better one.

I'm guessing they would be something like

Minimum:
2.8+ Ghz Pentium 4
1GB system RAM
direct x 9 compatible video card

Recommend
Dual Core/Quad Core
1.5 or 2Gb system ram
Direct x 10 compatible card

...as long as they don't recommend vista :)

There is no DirectX 10 without Vista. Valve doesn't support DirectX 10 yet though, because of the information, gathered with their hardware survey.

Yeah, they wouldn't recommend a DX10 compatible card if the game isn't/ doesn't support DX10.

I reckon the requirements will be near identical to that of Orange Boxes.
