what is up with l4d sound

help please!!! i got a new headset the other day, works great, mic works great, but i cant hear any sound when i try to play l4d which, as you know, is and impossible to play condition. PLEASE ANY ADVICE WOULD BE HELPFUL!!!

i tried that its just the sound wont work. I turned the sound up to 100 but l4d sound is still muted:(

Ok so the sound wont play in your headset or through the speakers?

EDIT: And what kind of headset is it? The kind where its just headphones or is the mic built in to it?

the headset is a radioshack pair with a built in mic. and the sound wont play through the speakers
