Okay, I know this can be done. Your standard Xbox 360 Wireless Controller, a Steam Account with L4D. How do you connect it?
Before anyone asks, I was NOT a PC player. I'm at a family member's house who does have it, and am having trouble readjusting to the PC controls (I stopped playing PC 6 years ago).
Please help me here. Would enjoy feedback for tonight. :)

I think you have to have a Wire Controller, not wireless.
The Wired Controllers have a USB plug-in.

The site said you can buy a wireless USB reciever anywhere, but I'm looking at a different way to do so. I have no wired controllers, unfortunately. But thanks for the help man.

Wired controller, and free online software. Sorry, wireless doesn't work.

Arrrrgghhh... Xbox . com says you can use a wireless but you need an adapter that you can buy... Other people say you can find one at Walmart and GS for $5, but who knows... arrrggghhh...
It's hard going from PC (doom and quake) to console then back again... :s

Well, quite personally, I prefer wired controllers. Never need charging, they have a rather long cord, they're cheaper, AND can instantly change to PC use with some FREE software, rather then paying for an adapter. But, this isn't helping the thread, so I'll just go.

I have a wireless controller.
But I bought only the controller and it DID say For Windows on the packaging.
Came with the controller, the adapter, and software/drivers for it.

If your controller doesn't have a USB connector, then you definitely need an adapter. You should be able to get the necessary drivers through Windows Update (as soon as the controller is plugged in).

Thanks guys. So for a recap, all I need is either a wired controller (last case scenario) or an adapter. :D
People are so friendly in this neighborhood... :)

Thought I'd drop my opinion.
I use a 360 controller when I play Team Fortress 2 on the computer. Here is a picture of the adapter. They are about $20, but a little hard to find. I had to get one Gamestop to send it to the Gamestop closer to me. If you get it without a CD, I know that Vista has automatic drivers for it. Not sure about XP.

If L4D for the PC is like TF2 for the PC, you will need XPadder. You need to buy it. It is easy to set up a controller. You just choose what button corresponds to what key. It will be the same regardless of if you get a wired or wireless controller, so keep this in mind.

Um no actualy. In both games just type exec 360 controller in to the console. Easy and it changes any hints and prompts from pictures of keys to pictures of the buttons. :D
