Some News on the TF2 360 updates (finally)
Speaking to OXM at yesterday's Left 4 Dead 2 event, Valve's Doug Lombardi confirmed that the company is still working on Team Fortress 2 content for Xbox 360 and will have "something to announce" before the end of the year.
As we do whenever we see Valve, we trotted out the timeworn enquiry What About Bringing Those Team Fortress 2 PC Updates to Xbox 360. Valve's publically stated that this is on the cards, but this time it was more vague.
"Yeah, we don't have a timeline on it yet," said Lombardi. "But there's going to be some news regarding TF2 and 360 hopefully before the end of the year. So stay tuned for that."

LOL @ "will have something to announce" before the end of the year.
So they will announce something before the end of the year and will probably say something like "Oh, it will be out sometime mid- next year." Then it will still be later than that factoring in valve time, so probably more like end of next year. At this point, I dont even know why they are wasting their time updating a game that is already practically dead on the 360 and by the time they actually release the update it probably wont be played at all anymore. A release next year puts it at well over 2 years, going on 3, before updating the game. Good job valve.

The problem with Valve and TF2 content is in three parts.
Part 1: Microsoft
As seen many times, Microsoft does not like giving out free DLC, which is what this new TF2 content would end up being. Valve was lucky enough to convince them to do the Survivor Pack for free, but who knows what loopholes Valve had to go through.
Part 2: The 360's Storage Problem
Valve has stated many times that they wish to bring all the content on the PC side to 360 users for free, but with each update this gets harder and harder. From the original 7 maps to the now 21 official ones, that's gonna be alot of space for users to just commit to TF2 content. Factor in the six class updates plus achievements, and that's alot of space that's going to have to be used solely for TF2 content.
Part 3: Valve's Design Philosophy
The TF2 team always tried to design the unlockable weapons as a 'side-grade' to the standard ones, but this always worked on the PC side because everyone got the updates for free. With the 360 and Valve possibly having to charge money for several class packs, are people going to complain because they bought the Spy+Sniper+Scout packs and someone else has a Natasha while they are stuck with the original? I think console gamers are more likely to put up with it than PC gamers (face it, if Valve made us buy the Class Packs as DLC on PC, everyone would be complaining because they had to pay for new heavy unlocks, ect ect).
If Valve can solve these problems, I'm sure they will get a huge surge in people on the 360 playing TF2 again and getting new buyers even though the game came out 2 years ago.

They need to release something or just drop it already. Stop saying "Oh, where gonna have it by the end of the year" or "we'll announce it next year" or whatever. Just stop acting like your gonna update it just to keep people playing it longer. Or, at the very least, fix the fuckin shitty glitches like shooting through the gate that have plagued the game for two years now and still arent fixed. And I dont want to hear about M$ being at fault for them not at least fixing the glitches and maybe releasing some new maps. I can understand what your saying platypus, but the glitches should have been fixed a year ago and the least we could see is a few new maps to keep the game alive.

I remember them saying earlier that they had problems updating because the Xbox only has 512Mb of memory, and that wasn't enough for all their updates, so they had to find a workaround.

Well ok now one second guys lets get off the new maps/weapons
What about the patches?
Im pretty sure those can be implemented easy.

those patches are built off of the updates.
there is a few things you guys need to keep in mind and Valve has said it before.
1. Microsoft only allows you to REQUIRE a user to download AT MOST 10(0)?mb of updates to a game. If its more than 10(0)?mb, it has to be an optional download. This causes all sorts of problems.
2. When you talk about TF2 for the PC, that is it. There is just one version of TF2 EVERYONE has. When you talk about TF2 for the 360 it gets VERY complicated. Does player A have just vanilla TF2? Yes? Ok. What about player B? They seem to have downloaded the scout and heavy pack. Player C over there has the Heavy, Medic pack.
When you get into some people having some things and others not it gets complicated to keep all of that tracked. They currently don't need to worry about that on the PC since everyone who plays online always has everything.
So at minimum, in order to be able to give even one updated class to the 360 there are some requirements. Everyone needs to have the models/sounds/etc for that updated class, no exceptions. If they don't have a model they they won't see the person who downloaded the updated class holding that new weapon. This requirement on it's own is over 100mb i'm sure.
I think there are really only two things they could do. Spend a lot of time to bring a bunch of bug fixes together that fit within that 100mb limit and have the users download them. Or come up with a new TF2 disc with everything on it for people to buy.

Time to get the PC version, eh xbox dudes?
I have it but my pc is just not quite good enough to really play it.
To Gehn6: I understand all that. What I was saying is, either:
A: STFU about any updates because most likely we arent getting any anyway.
B: Release at least the glitch fixes and at the very least some new maps.
C: Announce that when all the updates are done they are going to release them on a new disc. That way they can at least rape us for another $60.
or D: Some combination of those options.
Seriously though who the fuck announces that they are going to make an announcement. "Hey guys I just wanted to let you know that im going to make an announcement about whether or not im going to buy L4D2 sometime before the end of the year." Now doesnt that just sound stupid?
EDIT: And to top it off he said "Hopefully by the end of the year....". So basically he's announcing that he MAY make another announcement about it. Thank you valve.

Not trying to start any war here, as I play on both 360 and PC, but I think TF2 on 360 can never be the game that it is on PC, due to all of these issues listed. At this point, to all people who really wanna play the TF2 with the updates that have already been released, your best solution may be to buy a PC for it.

I still play it and i still enjoy it (Despite all it's problems) but i gotta say the updates would be greatly appreciated even if i have to pay, but to be honest i dont think it's gonna happen for at least another year. :(

Did you read the article? It says they are going to bundle every class update together since it will cost money. They want it to be worth it.

I don't understand, I thought one of the main justifications for Left 4 Dead 2 was that such an update could not be supported by an Xbox 360, similar to their problems with porting the updates of Team Fortress 2 to the Xbox 360.
If they can port such updates to TF2, can they not give good Left 4 Dead content to PC and 360 owners?

It was said that all of the content they want to add/change in Left 4 Dead would be larger then the game itself. The new director for example.

Best argument I have heard all day!
Valve is one of the only companies that gives free DLCs to their fans. Im looking at you Bethesda and Bungie!

Of course I read the article and im not talking about the "big" update we are suppose to recieve. Im talking about the fact that they are giving us useless updates before we are getting glitch fixes. Who the fuck cares about being able to turn on and off crits when the game is packed with bugs? Fix the real problems first, then with all your free time give us stuff like this to play with.

Yeah, I agree people feel entitled. I dont. I have said all along I dont give a shit if they charge us for 10 different updates. Just give us the freakin updates already!

I'd rather they bought out EA. I'd take long-delayed Game Gold over yearly shovelware any day.

You had almost everything right, except the achievement part. Microsoft already stated that only purchasable content will have achievements with them. So there would be a crap load of new stuff but no new achievement unlockables.

They need to finish all the updates and release a new disc for 360 owners. Maybe they could charge like $30 or something for it, or whatever the price is of the orange box now. Then any future updates or maps would be a lot smaller and could be DLC. I know I would buy the new disc.
