Whats your pc spec?
From reading about this problem, it seems to be video driver related. Post your psec and I'll see if I can find drivers you need.

Ok. I have had this so many times. These are things that have worked for me.
Video Drivers
Restart Steam
Reinstall games/Steam
Restart Computer
And I had to do this once...
Wipe computer
Hope you don't have to do the last one. Good luck man, I hate that problem.

1. make sure u have the right video drivers (tyr out beta versions)
2. make sure u have no background applications running in the background
3. Do a virus/spyware scan
4. validate game cache files

Have you wiped your computer? I mean kill the hard drive and reinstall everything. It worked for me.

download the latest dx9 drivers.
uninstall and delete your graphics card drivers, then re-install the latest ones.
See if that helps.

If you're still having this issue after wiping, well...
Something is physically wrong with your computer. As unhelpful as it is, the only option I can think of is either getting it repaired, or getting a new one.
Edit: Caboose, please define what you think a wipe entails. I've no idea why an "Internal driver error" shouldn't be resolved by reformating, but I just realized you may not, err, realize what a true "wipe" is - no offense.
Please reply and detail how you "wiped" your computer.

A pistol with a single shot, no good for hunting, or surviving, really. But after three weeks of starvation and thrist -- the option of that pistol begins to look good.

Does this happen only with source games?
I would also check the RAM for errors. That could be the problem.
