View Full Version : CRYSIS OR UT3 fierce competition

I thought UT3 was the greatest action game ever, even when compared to call of duty 4. However, this was because I liked how extreme it was.

I recently played the Crysis demo...

It looks like a slightly better-looking far cry on low gfx settings, so it runs fine on my computer! (huge suprise since it's suppose to be the most graphically advanced game in existence)

I played it and...
you have superpowers in it! The nanosuit rules!
Awesome speed that's lightning fast and no wimpy boost that's only 1mph faster.
Awesome hilarity when you grab someone. Run up, grab them, and they DO NOT look happy XD (also, flying turtles and you can throw the poor, defenseless animals into the water!)

Customizable weapons... you just hold it up and click what you want, so simple and so awesome.

As for UT3...
since the original it was a classic. Fast paced and pure fun. The new UT3 has Warfare mode for cool new battles. It also has the return of the classic weapons. Finally, it's mod base looks awesome as always with Night Blade (imagine Assassin's Creed or Thief multiplayer online), UnWheel in ut2k4 might return, and so many other mods to be announced.

So....

Which one would you guys get? I'm still deciding...

This is the fiercest competition ever...

Crysis:
pros
graphics
superpower-style nanosuit
perfect interface for all things
promises to have great cs and battlefield-style multiplayer

cons
umm.... none?
maybe no hoverboard... not that it matters

UT3:
pros
graphics better than Crysis even on low settings
runs fine with the better low-setting graphics
Awesome weapons
Awesome vehicles
HOVERBOARD
tricks on HOVERBOARD
Variety of game modes

cons
umm... none again. This is why the competition is so fierce.
no modern-day vehicles? I personally like modern-day and scifi equally, so doesn't matter.

MUST CHOOSE

Crysis all the way. No UT will ever beat '99 and '04!

UT3 > UT2004, except for the new vehicles.. they are too soft in UT3. I love the game anyways though. Feels sooo much like G.O.T.Y.

I like both, and will be getting both. Both have huge potential.

Unreal Tournament 3. There is no comparison between these two games for me.

graphics do not really matter to me because even if my rig could handle either one of these games, they would look like n64 games. So since im a multi guy, i would go wit UT3. UT is always a good choice for crazy ass multi.

I really want both still, but in the end I know that I'll enjoy UT3 because it's just fun no matter what. Crysis' Singleplayer will end, and its multiplayer is just more realistic warfare like cs or battlefield.

Oh yeah...
UT3 has an entire singleplayer game too! Also, 4 player coop on it! Crysis has no coop.

Ut3 even takes up less space on your computer!

UT3 wins.

UT3 has an entire singleplayer game too!

Err, have you seen the single-player component?

It's basically fighting against bots. Really, there's nothing else to it. There is some sort of narrative involved, but other than that, it's just regular deathmatch against stupid bots.

Actually, UT3 will be the first to have a proper single player campaign. Rather than the usual set of bot rounds interspersed with weak narrative. :D

Sigh. This is incorrect. It's just like you said; deathmatch against bots with an ostensibly weak narrative. Seriously, have you seen the preview for the single-player component?

Edit: let me quote the preview.

Though there's storyline, the actual gameplay consists of what UT players have seen before, where it's simply an sequence of deathmatch, capture-the-flag, and warfare contests populated with bots. There are a few extra and much appreciated presentation elements thrown in to make it feel more like a game, however. The single player campaign is broken up into chapters, each with shifting main goals. During the first part, or act if you want to call it that, you're rallying against the Axon Corporation in an attempt to steal their vehicles for use for the impending Necris battle. The second act kicks off with...ahh, spoilers!

Haha, that's great. Almost acerbic, but not quite.

Also, I fail to see how informing him that he is in fact incorrect is a crime. Surely you realize it'd be quite a disappointment for him to load up the game, expecting a fully-fledged single-player experience, only to realize it's a glorified botfest. Perhaps informing him that this is the case will influence his attitude towards the game.
Still, cretins like you tend not to ponder upon such quintessential facts, preferring to consider them as irrelevant circumlocution. Your choice, pal.

Really, you try too hard to impress people on the interenetz. It's a waste of effort, people don't usually care and you come off as an ass when you do. I wasn't just pointing out what you said in that quote because I didn't disagree, you post something "D_Smiddish" in every single post you make. That's all I was saying. I could care less about your views on this game.

Edit: Also, let's refrain from name-calling, please. I'm no cretin, and I don't appreciate being called one. Ass.

I don't look forward to the aliens in Crysis... just like I didn't look forward to the Triagens in FarCry... stick with the people! I like killing mercs and soldiers lol. Oh, and I hope they have gliders in Crysis also.. those were fun.

But yeah... I much prefer the outdoor environments to indoor ones, and the alien stuff seems like it will be mostly indoors.. which is poop.

I'd seen it before, but never read it any more closely than a quick skim. I naively assumed they would have done more than that from what I read in an interview a while back. :( Luckily, I don't mind glorified botfests, but thanks for pointing it out anyway.

Glorified bot matches don't sound as cool, but I'll probably get it anyway considering your attitude here...

condescending

EDIT: I just thought of something... how do you know it's just bot matches anyway? To be fair, the enemies in most fps games' singleplayer are just there to mimic multiplayer bots with a story.

Most importantly, cite your sources!

he talks about the singleplayer here. It sounds good how you get new tech from certain places and you can make decisions to alter the way the story goes. Also, the "ramifications" of doing the wrong things is cool.

From what I've read, Nemesis, they basically try to come up with reasons to steal the enemy flag and play games of deathmatch. I wouldn't expect much from it (especially after the UC2 Campaign), but I have no doubt in my mind that it would be fun as hell! :D

I think it's funny that the game industry has shifted from tacking on multiplayer as an afterthought to tacking on a campaign as an afterthought.

IMO multiplayer is where the attention should be focused.

What do you all think?

Grasping at ephemeral straws, are we?

IMO multiplayer is where the attention should be focused.

The main problem for developers is that it's rather difficult to create a successful multiplayer experience - not necessarily because it was poorly developed, but because few people will actually play it. There might've been terrific multiplayer games of the past that no one played, for no tangible reason whatsoever other than "Not being popular enough".

"Not being popular enough".
They needed bots in games like that for online. That way, you could play fine with only a few people.

I've always liked singleplayer more, but true adventure games died off already. There aren't any true singleplayer games now. Bioshock is the only recent exception.

Sure, recent games have singleplayer, and it works. Now, just stop making it so short! If it's not 50 hours long with extra replay value, like storyline-altering decisions or random levels, then why not just have multiplayer only?

Even Call of Duty 4's singleplayer is just a progressive multiplayer with bots.

Maybe I should forget both UT3 and Crysis and get Super Mario Galaxy. Mario is always the ultimate singleplayer.

Interestingly enough, Left 4 Dead is singleplayer and multiplayer at the same time.

hooray for zombies

BOTH

There is no possible way to decide!

I preordered UT3, and with my next pay check I'll probably get Crysis!

UT3 for multi, and Crysis for single yay!

CRYSIS & UT3 together = ULTIMATE WIN

I found yet another alternative.

www.smod-tactical.com (http://www.smod-tactical.com)

everyone knows that half life 2 is an awesome game by itself, but if you add in the greatest ultrarealistic action ever, it becomes even better. The new release will have LEFT 4 DEAD STYLE ZOMBIES AND A BETTER THIRD PERSON VIEW! The Current Version is awesome already, but the next version... well, we all know that l4d is better than crysis anyway, so maybe smod: tactical with l4d style will be better.... hm...

I choose this alternative because it's free and already on my computer.
