Actually, that makes it an AOW ("any other weapon") instead of a pistol. Apparently adding a foregrip to a pistol knocks it out of the pistol category and straight into "we don't know what the fuck this thing is" territory. I must say the A2 carry handle looks pretty hilarious on a 92FS...

I saw this web app awhile back and it's pretty damned amusing, even for a diehard gun nut like myself. I can't use it for too long though because I start considering how the internals would be designed to actually make it work. On second thought, maybe I should start filing patents...

Yeah, and a lot of brand name AR-15 stuff that would go great with almost any creation. Yankee Hill Machine makes some nice products worth adding, particularly their handguards. I'm pretty sure some of the front sights in the app are based on theirs.

Kind of sad to see no Magpul UBR or ACS stocks, or the classic PMAGs with the little windows. Come to think of it I don't think there's a Lancer or G36 type clear magazine either. Those always look tacti-cool.

You should check out the Metal Storm system, particularly their handheld shotgun prototype. The barrel might not be *made* of magazines, but it sort of is a magazine if you think about it. Crazy electronically fired guns...

I'd like a middle ground between this app and the ho-hum "customizing" in other games. If you take an AR-15 as an example you could almost infinitely customize your rifle using the thousands of parts available today.

- Barrels; different twist rates, length, profile (M4, A1 "pencil", A2 HBAR)
- Stocks; Magpul makes six types of stocks. That's just one company.
- Pistol grips, foregrips (stubby grip ftw)
- BCGs; Now we're getting technical. Chromed or TiN bolts and internals add reliability
- Forearms; lightweight two-piece polymer versus heavier but free floated rail systems...
- Magazines; don't laugh, your gun is only as good as the magazine feeding it.
- Attachments; I hate to include lasers and lights but why not?

And those are just real world possibilities, without venturing into building your own gun from parts. I could see something like the Galactic Civilizations II ship editor for weapons in a game.

If I could custom make an M4, it would look like this:

I'd go with a different pistol grip, those Mako Group ones are awful. You'd think finger grooves are a good idea but since they're not molded to your hand they always end up being really uncomfortable. Yes I know it's hypothetical, I just like talking about parts.

I tried to use the app to recreate my own AR-15 but most of the parts aren't in there :(
