Easily the best FPS I've played in years. The singleplayer campaign may be heavily scripted, but that doesn't make it any less awesome. The first USMC mission and the fight in the television station alone is worth the price of admission, and I haven't even touched multiplayer yet ...

Agreed. I'm level 20 on multiplayer myself, though. Love the fact that you can unlock new guns.. then parts for the guns themselves.

At the GameStop I was at their shelves for CoD4 said "In stores November 6th!".. so I headed out there and got mine. And yes, a LOT of deaths in single player. Love hardened mode, it forces you to not play like a "super soldier" and kill everything on your own.

Roger that. I ended up with a "suggested" difficulty of Hardened after running the course at the start (22s), so I took that game's word for it. Glad I did. It's hard, no doubt, but a ton of fun. The AI is smart, too. I've never seen AI use grenades so well, especially flashbangs. Playing on the Veteran difficulty must be downright suicidal.
It was in stores yesterday where I'm at (Northern BC Canada).

Veteran is so hard... I have finished the game on hardened and now I'm trying on veteran and I can't stop dying.
By the way, don't exit the final generic.. there's a special 3 minute mission on a plane after it... and its fun.

... though my fps goes to hell whenever an airstrike is called in. Shit turns into a slideshow. Not sure what setting to tweak to fix it.

WHAT?! after that whole game your favorite part was the T.V. station, that was actually nothing out of the ordinary(felt like R6Vegas) , maybe my least favorite. the night vision bombing people from the air in the town was awesome, with all the stuff on screen it realy felt real. the ship sinking as ur running out....not to mention GHILLIE'S IN THE FREAKING MIST!!! that mission was the best!!!

... I've only played to the War Pig mission (2nd USMC mission), so I have nothing to compare it to. =) The ship sinking was cool though. What I really liked in the TV station was all the destruction. Monitors and computers exploding all around you, sparks and shit flying through the air with every grenade. It was intense.
Oh, and it turns out the slowdown during airstrikes was server side. Found a good dedicated server with no slowdown whatsoever, regardless of helicopters and bombing runs.

bought the game.... installed.... and my computer utterly failed...
looks like this ones goin on the shelf for a while... oh well, back to COD:UO

yeah hardened I thought was perfect, still die sometimes, not too much...I started again on veteran (for achievements, 40 GP per level!) and am on the fourth or 5th mission. not too hard so far, but I can't even think how to get through the later missions on it.
p.s.....what's everyone's best times on the training course...

I ran the demo at high settings with certain things on 'automatic' and it was fine, generally the retail SHOULD run better than demos/betas... donno whats up there, hopefully its just you (no offense)
Damn it, I had to hold off getting it, got into a good game of TF2 and couldnt get out till now...and im just too lazy, plus its night time, i could get mugged by a cod playing gang! And dinner.

I know what you mean man. I flew through the demo on Veteran tons of times and it was easy. Now the full game, I died a lot on just Normal. I think they tweaked the AI a bit.

yes, they got lot of map, 16 I think, from very small to large enough.
Like overgrown wich is a large rural map with farm and bridge.
The multiplayer is awesome, dependant on the gametype. I hate free-for-all, but I love me some headquarters and dominiation. Very chaotic and unforgiving. Two, three well placed shots and you're down - or one shot, one kill in the case of headshots and/or sniper torso hits. For Quake Wars kiddies, it's a rude awakening.
Survivial has benefits. As your killstreak grows, you gain support - radar, airstrikes, helicopters. Extremely cool, though a team spamming airstrikes will grind your framerate to it's knees.
The RPG element is very well done. You gain XP and progress through ranks (levels), gaining new weapons, attachments and perks (special abilities). You can then customize your class with different loadouts and perk combinations. Lots of fun. I for one am having a good time with a "stealth" build, mp5 w/ silencer, extra stun grenades, invisible on radar, extra bullet damage. I'm only level 13 atm, so it'll likely change as I progress.
The maps are beautiful and well thought out. Very few bottlenecks, tons of fully realized buildings and rubble and sidestreets. I'll be playing for a long time to come.

I don't think the silencer is of any use if you are allready invisible on radar, is it?
I have tried the free for all for the first time today (to get the challenge), and it was a lot of fun. You need to walk slowly and get careful. It don't feel like an arena game at all.
My favorite mod is Team tactical. 3 vs 3 is a lot more tactical and is easier to play with 3 of your friend. You play all the map with differant mod (bomb, team deathmatch, capture and more..)

Good question, actually. My understanding was, the perk keeps you off the radar when the enemy launches one of their radar UAV drones. The silencer, on the other hand, keeps you invisible when you're firing. Everytime you fire w/o a silencer, you appear on the radar. However, now that you mention it, I wonder if the perk also conceals you when firing your weapon ... I don't think it does, as it specifically mentions the UAV in the description, but it might.

No I tried it and its just not griggs who died lol. I ran up by the enemy, barely alive, and when the tanker blew up it just went to the cinematic and somehow I ended up back a bit getting pulled by griggs again. What I tried was shooting that damn helo to not blow up the bridge, but you cant.
The perk is actually called UAV Jammer, so yeah ... it only conceals you from the radar drone. The silencer is still required to keep you hidden when firing.

Best game ive played so Far. you can't describe the awesomeness in Words dude,i run every setting on Max and its so beutiful ! im at the end of the Assassination Part the "15 years eirlier" Part, when you are waiting for the Chopper,im playing on hardned and well, its kind of hard ive died like 395934785 times and when i finally got so far that the chopper was waiting for me i had to get that damn dude and a Russian dude was pounding me with his rifle in the back ...so when i finally got that beotch down the chopper left us to die Cuz of low fuel...grr...

About the UAV jammer perk, you might be right... Maybe it don't make you allways invisible on the radar.

yeah but wtf you didnt knew he only had one arm dude ....and in this case its 2 options,either you havnt got that far or you are running the game on Extra Extra low so you cant see anything. Then theres also some other options which i won't bring up to get any feathers ruffled.

yeah even though my interent sucks, It was actually good last night, so I played COD4 from 12:30 till 5:45 (with some switchball mixed in)....it was hella tight, and i actually rock at MP. I came 1st or second everytime. well exept for when I was falling asleep my last 2 games..
-when you shoot him in that mission I think ur captain or whatever actually says "u took off his arm" something like that.

EDIT: EDIT: So the only downside to this game is that I can't have a silencer and a sight on my guns at one time. Am I being really stupid or is it one attachment per gun?
EDIT: EDIT: EDIT: Silencer makes you not appear whilst firing. UAV Jammer makes you not appear when they call in a UAV. Dead Silence makes you just plain ol' invisible all the time.

It was pretty balls. Like you were hardly introduced to Zakhaev, and then he just comes down from a chopper, shoots Gaz, and then you are tossed a pistol, and blam blam blam. They're down. Conglaturation(inside joke for people who watch Angry Video Game Nerd). I think it just sucked everyone kinda died. I was still kinda pissed at how abruptly the US mission ended lol. It was like the writers said, I really dont know where we're going with this. Let's just let the bomb go off and have the Sarge crawling around in this like Michael Bay kinda of end of the world scene. Other than that the game was KICK ASS!

lol americans have no patience for that.
From what I understand, dead silence makes you just that: silent. You no longer make sound while you move, though you still show up on the radar and whatnot. I think that's the case, at least. I'll be using it in combo with my silencer/uav jammer. I love the stealth aspect.
Yar, one attachment per gun. If you have a silencer, no scope. Silly, I know. But all for the sake of balance in the multiplayer environment.
I haven't played in a week. So busy!

Level 43 now, with 20~hours of play. Im getting better, almost a 2.00 KD!!!
I played the epilogue mission, its only one minute for veteran I think. Infinitely satisfying when you blow the guys head off with a headshot in the end.
As for story ending. You're complaining that you were barely introduced to Zahkaev? Game starts, 3 missions later Price beats the crap out of Al- Asad and he dies. Zahkaev was there since the beginning of the game.

I have to say that I feel really really bad and sorry for anyone who said "Fuck this" after "beating" it and not waiting for credits. I did that for Halo 3, and didn't see the real ending for a week. It sucks, I know. I learned to watch all credits the hard way. Oh and level 32 atm, but almost 33.

Oh man, funny thing about the ending, I CANT FUCKING PLAY IT lmao. I played through veteran and went through the credits, only to find out that my fuckin box ringed it on the part that plays the epilogue lmao. So none of that for me. But it looks like someone is going to blockbuster and switching a certain game.

Shit, 3 more levels till Barret. It kind of sucks though, it doesn't one hit kill like the other guns, why is that?
Also, attachments work completely different on different 'types' of guns lol.
