If someone could please explain who this man is it would make me feel better.:)
Short and sweet - Les Paul invented the solid-body electric guitar. Also invented multi-track recoding and was a stunning musician in his own right.
Another way of putting it - if you could point at one person and say "this person invented music as we know it today" Les Paul would be that person.

Heard about this earlier... very sad. RIP LP.
Strangely enough I just before plugged in my Les Paul guitar to have a jam in the great man's honour - only to find that it didn't work. Seems my guitar died on the same day.

This man made all the big groups possible. Think where the music world would be without Les Paul.
