Ok, so in my opinion, crash course was well done. I think it gave players what valve said they would give them : a short, quick, new campaign/versus. I mean, even though it might be a little too short for my taste, i still think the map was made well enough to satisfy me every match. however, I don't think I will keep playing this map for very long. Sure it's fun, addictive, and new, but longer campaigns are not only more interesting, but more engaging, especially in versus mode, where teams have more rounds to get points, so it's more competitive. I did however enjoy the new voice acting, and the new HUD display for infected. So , I want to know what you guys think about the update....

I liked it, bosses (tanks, witches) spawn quick for a good challenge, and the howitzer fire IS MORE DAMGING THAN U THINK! IT MURDERED ME. I thought i could go right through it

Pros:
-It's lots of fun running through a new environment, love the semi-open areas allowing you to choose which way is best for your team.
-Lots more places for infected to come from, i was constantly getting surprised when we were playing through
-Love the restarting generator at the end, that surprised us all.
-Love the randomly moving car alarms.
Cons:
-Map 1 could have easily been split into two maps, same with map 2, but again it would have made for a still short campaign.
-I can't believe it took Valve this long to release these two maps!
-Way to many teir 2 weapons and grenades!
Overall, good map, but it almost feels like a really polished community map. The levels being long mean almost no team will ever make it to the end in VS mode, but i'm sure that was the point.

Lots of pills I noticed. Fun map, kind of easy finale. In fact, on my first run through (advanced) we had a pretty decent team and didn't have a tough time. Easier then I thought but then again that was only campaign. Versus is going to be really tough, but the massive amounts of pills and grenades might change that. I also noticed there wasn't a single health kit.

My review:
Pros
-New area
-Large maps deliver a slightly bigger challenge
-Definitely has some elements that will catch people off guard (Random car alarms)
-No places to corner camp that I noticed, forcing the team to work together
-Challenging finale with a nice surprise in the middle, adding a little twist to the just "Wait it out" style finales.
Cons
-Change in difficulty between first and second map leaves a pretty big gap
-The only checkpoint between the beginning and finale will make it very annoying, especially on expert
-Lots and lots of grenades and weapons just lying around.
And Deadly, me and my friend found several med kits, it may be a difference in difficulty (We were on advanced, so I doubt it's that big) or you were just owning that bad.

I was very disappointed with the update. I can't even connect to a dedicated server with a search key. It makes a LAN server every time.
It's pretty clear to me that their main interests for the past 6 months wais on Left 4 Dead 2 and TF2 "hats".
They attempted to connect the incidents at No Mercy and Death Toll but it was a really sad attempt. There is no story or cinematics to it. Just some new phrases from the Survivors.
In short, Crash Course is "nothing special" and I wouldn't play it ever again. Left 4 Dead 2 here I come!

It's not bad. They could easily released one or 2 full campaigns in all of the time it took though. Pretty disappointed, the generator thing wasn't even much of a threat. It should have made it so the only light you had was flashlights and you had to run more to the generator.

I thought it was ok, but expected a lot more at the finale. When I read about it, I thought you would be in a parking lot type area, where it was a lot bigger than this was, and when the generator went off, the area would be pitch black and every zombie would catch you by surprise. When the survivors left with the "truck", it was a bit pathetic. It was about 3 seconds, and they drove back the way they came, which didn't make any sense. Also when I was playing the finale, I knew the generator would shut off, so I waited near it with all the survivors and it never shut off. The car just lowered, and we finished without even restarting the generator.

When I heard about the generator going off, I had basically the same vision as Rape Shoes. I was kinda disappointed when you could still see everything. It wouldve been alot more interesting if you couldnt see a thing when the generator went out. Overall, I liked the map except for the finale.

Disappointing, the only good thing to come out of this DLC is the fact that zombies don't funnel through corridors like on every other map, making shotguns even more over powered.................

Yeah the finale is way too easy for Survivors, but otherwise it's pretty fun. I think maybe the campaign was meant to be kind of easy for Survivors so that it was those with the best score after getting to the safe room, rather than destroying the other team as Infected.
I really liked how open it was though; less corner camping.
Overall good campaign imo, it's nice for a quick vs. game, even though people still rage >.<

I still see corner camping... there's pretty much no way to avoid corner camping, until L4D2 because of the spitter.

I must say I was very surprised by these two maps. Firstly for those of you who think because of it's two map design, it's going to be a quick, easy cake walk....your an idiot. These two maps remind me of BloodHarvest, but smaller and with buildings. TWE SHELLSHOCKR, SketerValentine, EPSILON32 and myself took these maps on. Took us a total of 2 hours 40 minutes to complete on EXPERT. Now I don't know about some of you who say you may beat this in 30-45 minutes, but these maps are NOT easy to say the least. We finally worked out how to survive the finale, but even so after our third attempt, only SketerValentine and myself only made it out on the truck.
The maps were very well put together and reminded me more of a Romero zombie-esque apocalypse style than that of Death Toll 4. It just looked and felt like a city full of zombies and your all alone trying to survive. The respawn timers of SI are unreal. You kill one and then 10 sec. later BOOM! another one is right in your face. The Tank comes in the WORST spots and because of the maps small design fighting him can be a challenge.
The AA gun was really cool on the bridge and the finale at the end of the campaign was exciting, though the last scene as the truck drives away kinda left me wanting more (the truck clips through the infected and I wish the truck would crash through the gate as it drives away)
The 10 achievements will keep me busy for the next couple of weeks. Overall I throughly enjoyed these maps and shall be playing them for quite some time.

It was alright. I don't think it will take weeks to get the achievements like crack said. I already have 6/10 I think.
I mostly agree with what was said above. Too many guns/pb's/moly's. I'm glad there isn't a ton of health kits because it makes it a lot harder on the survivors. I think most of the good/bad things about it have already been said. The only thing I would add is I don't like how the point multiplier for the first level is 1x. It's way too long of a map for the survivors to only get a 1x, it should at least be a 1.5x. That way, if you make it all the way to the end with good health and the other team doesn't it will at least reflect more in the score, which it should.
Also, I just thought of something else. There seems to be a lot of indoor areas for the survivors to move into which makes it harder for pouncing for damage or too even be extremely effective as a hunter. They should have balanced that out by letting you get anywhere in the map. There are a good amount of high places you can't even get too just like DA and DT. I don't see why they have to block out all the tops of buildings and I tried to get on to several fire escapes without success also.

Achievements aren't unlocking for me at all (PC version)
I know I've gotten 25 pounces off the building right of the crashed heli, among many other achievements. Nothing wants to register though; kind of odd.

I was let down by Crash Course.
With only two maps, you can't really get the variety the longer campaigns have; also Crash Course kind of feels like a whole jumble of buildings. Sure it is more open; but there's nothing worth seeing (what I'm trying to say is there are no landmarks).

Like I said in the other thread...pretty underwhelming but at least it's more content. I agree with the general consensus that it feels like the community could've done this much in less time, and a company like Valve should've been able to put two of these together in the months it took for Crash Course.
Also most of the reason behind the server string tables issue currently is Valve released a followup update shortly after the main course. I ended up hosting LAN, but that's fine in my case because I have plenty of upstream. It also means I get conscripted into hosting things like Killing Floor and L4D because everyone else has crappy upload :(
Anyway, my two cents. I've been out of the L4D loop for many months and just today grabbed half a dozen of the best custom campaigns.

This is the worst pile of crap Valve has done. This IS a rushed job because of Left 4 Dead 2.
Have you idiots not noticed the amount of glitches? You can literally walk through the 1st crescendo event, just walk THROUGH the bridge barricade, you don't need to even mess with the gun. Go try it. Jump on the car and into what looks to be a steel wall. There are rooms that before you enter look as if they are not even part of the map, there are what look to be fences around the edges of the map that you can still GO THROUGH AND FALL OFF.
This is the worst piece of crap I have ever paid for. What's worse is I can't get the Achievement to beat a game on versus because IT'S ONLY TWO MAPS, and people quit RIGHT when they die on the second map. Another thing this is supposed to be some...linking campaign between two campaigns? Could have fooled me, just looks like a 12 year old found a map editor and went crazy. All they did was add some stupid dialogue to try to "Fill" in the stuff, like Zoey bitching "HE WAS A ZOMBIE REALLY A ZOMBIE." The whole Francis hating thing is completely overdone, god this sucks. This campaign doesn't link anything and a quick and easy versus campaign? The maps are fairly long and as of right now no one really knows them so I have been still playing a versus campaign in 45 minutes to an hour.
The map is also COMPLETELY uninspired there is nothing new to offer and the locale is completely bland and forgettable.
Also the fact it's only a 1x multiplier for both maps usually means if a team won one map, then there is really no point is playing on, because you can't get distance points if it's close.
PC users you are alright you got this pile of shit for free, but us Xbox owners got fucking shafted.
Fuck you Valve.
However you fanboys, LOL. WHERE IS YOUR GOD NOW?
God I wasted my money. They better give me a refund or fix this glitched piece of crap.

Ok first off, that shit is uncalled for... seriously. You don't like it so everyone else is an idiot? You're funny.
Second, have you noticed that after release, anything and everything will always have some glitches? It is a fact of gaming, build a bridge and get over it. They will patch it.
I like this campaign, it makes for a really awesomely intense versus game. I would have paid a few bucks for it if I had to.

Didn't like the design at first ... Until I got to the bridge.
A tank spawned right after I blew the barricade up, and with all those cars around, I was nervous as all get out. My bad luck got me punched over the side to my death. When I finally got back into the game (Failed the map), a witch spawned a tiny bit later on the bridge as well. Couldn't find her worth anything until I hear "VALCRON HAS DISTURBED THE WITCH!"
Fuuuuu.
Second map was half linear half not. I got lost a couple times exploring, even sat in one place for about 3-4 minutes at one point going "Where the crud do I go now?".
Finale was pretty good, though my team chewed through the tanks that came since we predicted their spawns, and we all had autoshotties to blast him away. Neither of them ever touched us. I have to say I actually saw very few SI during the finale. Anyone else notice this? Or was it just I didn't see my team killing them while I was watching the generator?
Also the generator turning off with a 2nd tank spawning during was freaky. I jumped down and heard the tank roar and was like "HELP!".
Overall a good effort map(s). I think it at least deserves a normal and versus playthrough by anyone.

Why are you losing faith in valve now?
If youre losing faith in valve now, then you probably should have lost it when they announced l4d2 in the first place. What they did wasnt bad at all. if you dont like the map dont play it. they never said it would be a huge campaign so stop complaining.

I liked it, but I wanted a longer cut-scene of the vehicle driving away.
You should have been in the back of the vehicle defending it as it drove off, then the epic cut-scene of it running over a few zombies while escaping some tanks.

I think Crash Course is alright, not fantastic. The glitches do make it quite ridiculous, but thankfully Valve will fix those very quickly. I expect a update in less than a week that will fix up all those nasty glitches. I'm not a huge fan of all the places you COULD of pounced from, but are not allowed to jump too. But, it's a quick Versus map, which has alot of spots to suprise the Survivors and destroy them in minutes, and it's got some cool crescendo events. I think it was worth it.

Overall liked it, didn't love it.
My favorite aspect of it (aside from it simply being new content) is that it is far less linear then the other campaigns. I got lost for a while trying to retrace my steps after giving a lit tank the slip. I like the spawn timers for specials and hordes, keeps you on your toes.
I found it very challenging on expert with a random group of pubbers, but somewhat easy once a few of my friends finally joined the game. I liked some of the new dialogue, had a few lulz.
What I enjoyed least about it is how terribly weak the end cut scene is. Second thing I didn't like is that the number of weapon spawns is ridiculous, eliminating any penalty for not spending primary ammo wisely. I never once had to use my pistols in effort to conserve primary ammo for hordes/specials, as I do quite often in the other 4 campaigns. Same with the moli/pipes, far too many.
However, I do like the abundance of gas cans. I think if some of the weapon spawn points were eliminated, and less moli/pipe spawns, the number of gas cans (if used effectively) is perfect to balance out the frequent hordes and overall increased difficulty.
Also, if a teammate is dead when you enter the first safe room, they respawn with full health. I guess they felt that the extra 50 health points would make up for the increased difficulty and length of map 2? It's not a terrible idea, but not necessary, as the 50 health you normally get on respawn is plenty, just like every other campaign.
I'm not much of a glitcher/exploiter so if I find 'em I just go through the game normally anyways, the way it's designed to be played. If you're pissed about glitches, just report them to valve and move on with your life.

Tiny cramped map was bad. The only good thing was the difficulty. Actually scratch that, the new voice acting was the only good thing.
and the "cool story bro" I say that all the time when playing with people who won't shut up.

Uh hey Jim, I did. I still thought it was bland while I was playing with my brother. I said it looked like a fischer price create-a-map, but I liked the way it was non-linear. I played one versus map and thought it was okay and was looking for good spots to pounce, smoke, etc..
However the second run through I saw a weird room that looked like not part of the map, then I started noticing several, I noticed I wasn't stopped at small barricades and crates that I could walk right through them, I saw the new vehicles like the white van touched it and went through it. I put 2 and 2 together and realized you can go through all of them. I noticed when walking through the containers on the 2nd level it was rocky as hell, it wasn't smooth to walk through them and I hugged the wall and realized you can go through it, put 2 and 2 together YOU CAN GO THROUGH ALL OF THEM.
I saw a new design for a barricade I walked into it and went through it and found a dead area, but that barricade had the SAME design as the one that you shoot with the howitzer, once again I put 2 and 2 together and tried walking through it, and look at that it worked.
I didn't look for glitches, I had to pay for this I hoped it would be good, but it's completely terrible. I have played it many times and have yet to see a tank before the finale, and see one witch ALWAYS in the same spot. (Why play it many times then?) So I can expose these stupid glitches, THEY ARE NOT EXPLOITS THEY ARE SHITTY GAME DESIGN AND I WANT THEM FIXED BECAUSE I HAD TO PAY FOR THIS. Either that or I want a refund. There was all this hype about how this would link campaigns, and a cannon and tons of cars for tank and all this stuff, and it's fucking crap. There are so many potential places to pull and pounce, BUT YOU CAN'T GET TO THEM.
It IS unfinished and bland, and it doesn't link anything except with some lame dialogue, and LOOK LOUIS MADE A GAY JOKE ABOUT FRANCIS WEARING LEATHER.

But seriously why do people like you derail a topic by posting things attacking the person because you think I am a troll or something? You're the kind of poster that will go into a topic with an obvious troll and then just post..."obvious troll" It's like you have some smug sense of superiority about such details that you need to prove to everyone on a Left 4 Dead forum. I have noticed quite a few people around here as such, which is why I make hasty generalizations. As to say such insults as "idiots" and/or "morons" most of which I am just clumping together as a whole, as I know not everyone on the forum is as dense as these persons.

I know I am a bit of a dick, but I don't understand how this is relevant or even necessary? I am attacking nobody personally. I am attacking Valve for this awful job they did on these maps, and getting annoyed at the people who assume I didn't actually PLAY the campaign. I don't seek out glitches for fun.
I am obvious at nothing, nor am I successful at anything until I either get my money back or they completely patch this campaign up.
I have gotten warnings for trolling, some of which I don't understand but I guess it is assumed when someone rages on a forum and disagrees with the general consensus to the people they will get flamed as a troll. Which is all fine and dandy, but someone fails to realize that I can have a rational argument and explanation if people are willing to give me as such instead of just going "OBVIOUS TROLL. TROLL TROLL TROLL" or the whole "You don't like it, get out!" I know this is a Left 4 Dead forum, I love Left 4 Dead, I hate Crash Course, but last time I checked it wasn't "Super Fanclub for Valve because of Left 4 Dead Forums!"
I know I am walking a thin line, but the amount of responses I get just continue to surprise me at the fact...you guys will just mark me off as a troll and then make one word responses such as GTFO, and tell me to read the forum rules which I have read.
I'm not intentionally trying to get a huge ruse, I am just angry and this is a left 4 dead forum and I am being relevant. Aren't I? Maybe slightly irrational in times of anger, but overall I am a rational person.

Or a tell-tale sign of someone trying to defend themselves and their viewpoints, it's usually called arguing, but I guess the internet is a terrible medium for such as you label me a troll.
Trolling is inane flames, and mindless banter which is used to MAKE the person on the other end rage. If what you are saying is true, it's you people who are the trolls as I am getting slightly irritated, which if that is what you want fine. I just attempt to hit every point thrown at me, to be sure people know complete details.
MAYBE IF I WAS DOING THIS IN EVERY SINGLE POST YOU COULD CONSIDER IT TROLLING.
However I am not saying Metroid ripped off Halo or anything retarded I am stating my opinions on such and I want to know if people share them, but I don't like the fact people can go I LOVE IT I LOVE IT. but when someone is like I HATE IT I HATE IT, people are like "WHAT HE HATES VALVE. GET EM. TROLL ALERT!"
Ugh.
This thread seems to be better suited for the Steam forums...
I'm sure it's been hit, but I own a 360, I don't have a steam account or Left 4 Dead for PC, and this forum is all Left 4 Dead so it seems relevant to me. People are asking on First Impressions of Crash Course, I gave mine with anger included and people still think I am trolling.
(Yes I reply to almost everything, as to give complete details I know a lot of people here are under 14 and don't want to read long-winded posts but this is a forum right? Not an AOL chatroom)
I also have enough sense at least to quote and edit then double post.

To be quite honest, I wouldn't call this guy a troll. He just has an opinion that he didn't put correctly. In the future Kill1184, an unspoken rule of the internet is to never post when you're angry, at anything. I only breezed over your post, but supposedly it consisted of "ZOMG CRASH COURSE SUXORZ", and you have brought up this post in several Crash Course threads. It could certainly have been put better, but I do applaud you for expressing your opinion regardless of the public opinion, even though I disagree with it.

Also, I think it might be fixed. I noticed the Jesus Rooms have been boarded up and I can't walk through anything. I didn't get an update, maybe it was a server side one?
Regardless I am happy with that, but unhappy with the fact it's just not a fun map for infected so much potential for good spots, and the maps as a whole while non-linear are just very boring and VERY bland in appearance. Nothing jumps out at you like in the other maps, there isn't anything different. Dead Air had the airport type of aspect and Death Toll the whole dock aspect but this just feels like a boring outing at an abandoned train depot or something.
Also I would like to not, it's not a I hate it this sucks. It sucks, therefore I hate it.

On topic, I felt like the stages were great for being non-linear but the stale scenery and littering of propane tanks kind of pissed me off. The thing that truly gives me a migraine though was the finale, it's actually super easy for the survivors it seems like. All they do is run up to that box inside the building with the machine gun and camp it out with shotguns, easily machine gunning the hordes and protecting the turret guy from the SI.
Maybe I haven't figured out a good strategy for it yet but there's really no great Smoker spots, Boomer has to be super careful to get close enough, Hunter might get a handful of 10 damage pounces but not regularly unless Survivors are stupid, and the Tank is mega fucked. It spawned me as a Tank on the f***ing staircase across from them, like I got chewed up by the gatling gun as I was first taking control, managed to run outside with about half life (didn't rush them because they had propane tanks set up... like ten of them), ran around back and jumped in the window, only incapped one before getting shotgunned into oblivion. So aggrivating.

I just played it on versus and Expert and I gotta change my opinion. ITS THE BEST CAMPAIGN YET!
The HUGE amounts of pipebombs and molotovs aren't there just for show, VALVE actually wants you to use them, not hold on to them like in regular games. The vasts amounts of high surfaces are there so you can't corner camp the entire campaign. All the propane and gascans are strategically placed so if you just shoot at them, they won't be effective but if you hold on to them and use them tactically they will rape everything. The best thing is how open the campaign is meaning that throwing a molotov at a horde will actually allow you to get AROUND it and not have wait for the flames to die out. Also more open campaigns allow the SI to be even more effective since there are multiple ways to go and survivors sure like exploring for those tasty pills >:D
Its a bit short but it was a great campaign, only fun in Versus/Expert.

I didn't have any problems whatsoever besides the Witch spawning 1 kilometer away from where she should have spawned.
In my versus game when we were survivors she spawned right in front of the AA gun, when we were infected she spawned right outside the warehouse where the saferoom is at thus allowing the opposing team to cr0wn her since there were no hidden dangers. I minigunned her but then got pounced by hunter :)

I really liked the level design, I don't know where the people claiming it's uninspired are coming from. I liked the part in the first where you have to jump down onto the wrecked tanker and I liked the part in the second where you have to climb on top of the semi to progress. It felt like I was navigating the wreckage of the zombpocalypse, something I never really felt in the other campagins. I liked how every area was more spacious and I liked the random care alarms. If this is just a taster of what L4d2 is going to be like, I cant wait for november.

Also, I think an unofficial pre-requisite for posting any opinions related to overall difficulty in this thread is to have played at least one game of CC on Expert or VS.. You can't say, 'oh its too easy' when you're playing it on normal or even advanced. There's just no comparison.

Well, IMO, Crash Course is what versus SHOULD be, chaos most the time, VERY little down time, and you've GOTTA keep moving. All the other campaigns are kinda dull because there are so many points where you can hide and melee spam. CC has none because you don't stop long enough to really need one.

Valves new crash course campaign is completely half assed, it seems like they just wanted to get it out there i dont wanna see it if it came out any earlier then when it did, valve is apparently to busy working on L4D2 to give the slightest shit about the new crash course, which has so many glitches, bugs, jumps and i heared rumors of an autokill in the first level. perhaps in the future when they make a new update and all the bugs and level glitches are gone in crash course then it will be good. it has potential but fix the bugs and glitches first then we'll talk =P
Dear Valve: we know your busy but pick up the slack.

Good lord this whole thread is a giant tl;dr
I'll add to my previous consensus that Valve did the same thing to Crash Course that I strongly disliked about their versus iterations of Dead Air and Death Toll: they gimped the infected using tons of invisible walls. This is why for a long time before I stopped hosting L4D I ran the co-op versions of the maps in versus mode.
Aside from that and the glitches I don't mind it, mostly for versus though. It's not particularly enjoyable in co-op because it's so short, but as DTard said that's actually a plus in versus.

Playing it multiple times, I stand by my initial diagnosis. The spacious levels are definitely refreshing compared to the cramped, linear bullshit of the other campaigns but the scenery is very stock and there are way too many accessories scattered around (pipe bomb/molotov, propane/gas tank). Also the finale still sucks for Infected, it takes a damn miracle to get anybody off that f***ing container at the back of the building.

My first impressions:
Large level design +
Multiple paths +
that's where the good stuff ends.
Horrible, Horrible Escape -
Atmosphere - (will explain further down)
open spaces = horrible for tank -
Now the atmosphere I think could benefit from a fit of HEAVY rain. They just got out of No Mercy with its drizzle, but now I want a rain with some fog. Rain where you can barely see for a few blocks. It would enhance the "back alley" feel of the campaign.
Oh, and the safe room writing?
Lulz worthy. In a good way.

I like how there are predefined 'spots' for 25 damage pounces. While there are certainly typically high spots in the map, you can easily get 25 damage pounces from places nowhere near as high. All you have to do is get some distance between you and them. Back up, aim high, jump. Hopefully you can land something big.

Valve wanted the choice of shorter campaigns so people who didn't want to spend 3 hours playing through an intense game of versus can just drop in and play a shorter map. I like the idea, but I wish they would have released 2 or 3 maps instead of one.

Except NOT. With a decent team, you can shoot the hunters with ease, they have only three spots they can come from for damage pounces. Inside, they can appear from the windows and get you, and they have more chance of killing you with sheer massing. Ask Deadly, he's played with me on there, we had a decent opponent team and we were able to make it with quite a bit of health.
