You have to be crazy too if you don't love this idea, but this should've been a given. They HAVE TO make this as a map for DLC since we now know it's not in.

They need to make a damn mall map, and if you love zombie movies with fast running zombies, you'll realize "Why the hell didn't they put that in in the first place!?" I mean come on! It's the most classic setting for a zombie movie and it would be so damn awesome to almost re-enact Dawn of the Dead. You could start off in a forest, into the mall wherest you run around for a while, escape into the streets and than off to a dock where you drive out into the ocean distance, and than when you get to the island, infected will come at you and kill you no matter what =] That'd be interesting >.>

yes ever since Dawn of the dead first came out, I've been REALLY INTO Johnny Cash music ( that song in beginning credits "When the man comes around"), and that is one of my top 3 fav songs....too bad he is dead....and no that's not from L4D I watched that a long time ago and talked to the poster I think, I think it's a NMRIH map.

I found this a long time ago. I don't think it's official, (that's why I never sent a link to it before), but the title, description and tags kinda make me wonder.

Three things:

First, why would you want the dev's to blatantly plagiarize (more than they already are anyway) Dawn of the Dead? I think its up to the MOD community to create tribute maps, not the developers of original content. On that note i hope somebody recreates the 28 Weeks Later farmhouse because that shit is awesome.

Second,

You should also check out Hurt - his last song, literally weeks before his death. Very emotional.

Hurt is a cover of a Nine Inch Nails song thank you very much. And I doubt that was the last recording he made.

However, his version smacks the turds out of Trent's, which is rare when it comes to covers.

Third, get "Live at Folsom Prison" for some old school cash.

Cronos, let's work together to make the mall map! If it's not in the airport campaign, you make the first section of the mall, and I'll make the second section. Since it'll be part of a chapter, it has to have two sections.

We should make it into a Chapter like this:

1. Suburbia (you start in one of the houses but can't enter any of the others)
2. The Mall Outside (first section)
3. The Mall Inside (second section)
4. The Secret Umbrella-style labs under the mall (because secret laboratories are awesome)
alternate 4. The Mall Basement (a pretty normal alternative section...)
5. Underground Subway to escape (mount a heavy machine gun on the back of it since the truck and helicopter have it in the real l4d levels :D)

This is just what I think would be a good campaign, and I like to do mapping, so we could do this!

Maybe we should just remake Lila_Panic and have no exit :D how long can you survive Lila_Panic Left 4 Dead style?

I'm aware that Hurt was written by Trent Reznor - but Johnny made it his own, surpassing by far NIN.

Do you honestly think people will remember the song as written by Trent, or Johnny's rendition of it?

I agree with you, Johnny Cash's rendition is superior. However, there would be no JC rendition had Trent not written some brilliant lyrics/melody/music. I'm not even a NIN fan by the way.

I find that people have a deeper appreciation for things if they learn about how they actually came to be.

I wasn't trying to be a jerk, just trying to give some perspective.

Is it just me, or has this been said a million times? But now we have a full fledged topic on a mall map!. Nevermind the posts in the "Maps for L4D" topics, which by the way number too many already. Besides that, the video itself has been posted to death on these forums too... Everyone knows it was from NMRiH, and that it was Johnny Cash.

Second, making a mall map is plagiarism? Don't think so. In fact, TRS is fully capable of making a mall 20x better than that actual mall, and that actual map. As for the division of the map, you're forgetting the in-door parking lot. It wouldn't be a 'plagiarism' of DotD without the dark, seemingly deliberately made for Hunters, parking lot.

and since map making IS verry hard and long ill be working on a map for 3 weeks before i think: this sucks let do something else! :D
and i think there MUST be A L4D411 server!! whit all teh original maps AN all the fan-boys maps :D and ofcourse they must make it this way that there can be at least 15 peeps in it (like 8 are fighting and the rest is wachtings and humiliate them :D)

There will be 501 mall maps released by the gen pop after about 2 weeks of the game/mapping tools being available (I assume this would just use the same tools as HL2).

All of them will suck.

Mall custom maps for zombie games are what trench custom maps are for WWII games.

I jest of course, they won't all suck. 499 of them will.

It's like The Chili Peppers trying to claim they have the rights to use the word "Californication".

They don't.

Trust me, there were plenty of movies, comic books, novels and computer games that used a shopping mall (some probably with zombies in too) prior to Dawn of the Dead.

It's not even close to plagiarism. Stealing lines from the script or screenplay might be yes, using a shopping mall in a zombie game isn't.
