Hi guys, I'm a big fan of Tuna, yes, the food, and I've been eating lots of it lately

I was curious if anyone was aware of the acceptable, or 'safe' amount of mercury acquired by the consumption of tuna one can have in a week

lol. I'm sorry but a thread about the safe amount of Tuna consumption. As long as you aren't easting like a can every hour, you'll be fine. Besides, you'd have to worry about other problems such as vomiting before you could die of mercury poisoning.

Actually, this is a useful thread! Mercury poisioning could be accumulative, so if you're eating alot of tuna then this could well be worth finding out.

I'm not being sarcastic either, as I'm currently eat two tins (400g) of tuna a day.

Would you believe it, I found a site that gives recommended tuna amounts based on how much mercury is found in tuna! lol.

Albacore:

According to FDA health standards, you can safely eat 4.3 ounces of Albacore tuna per week (assuming that every can of tuna has an average amount of mercury*). That's three quarters of a can of tuna. Albacore tuna has three times as much mercury as light tuna


Light Tuna:

According to FDA health standards, you can safely eat 12.6 ounces of Light tuna tuna per week (assuming that every can of tuna has an average amount of mercury*). That's 2 cans of tuna.

3/4 of a can isn't lethal, what they are saying is that eating 3/4 of a can a week over a sustained period of time is hazardous to health.

10-14 cans a week here :( I'll be dead long before the zombies get me.
