Just to prevent a million topics about the same thing.
Airports are cool, and "murky" makes me think swamp, which is also cool.
However, as many of you might know, I wanted a battleship/city docks chapter.
Oh well, swamps are cool too.

Well a mall is a must. And i don't doubt they got one in there somewhere. What I'll would like is a small town in the states. We travel in a convoy, but one of the trucks brakes down. So the survivors have to look for a other truck, or a part to fix the old one. And Ofc the town is swarming with infected. So the survivors have to search all through town, the hardware store, the junkyard and so on. I think that could work.

Come to think of it, "Murky Countryside" is quite ambiguous.
Could be: Swamp, Forest, Meadow, or a mix of said locales.
I'm hoping for a swamp, so that it's quite different from Cornfield.
What about you guys?
Gforcemember45
11-30-2007, 08:52 AM
yeah, a swamp would be creepy as hell. Just think of it, you and your team are wading through the swamp, then everything goes quiet, infected burst from the water and attack. One of the group is seperated and torn to pieces. Im looking forward to it.

Man, you'd hafta use the outlines to see them if they were down in the water!
And also, guns don't fire well while submerged, and if they were true to physics there, it would mean you can't even defend the guy who's helping you up!

hmm, well they could lower the water so it wont be that high then, but high enough that they're under it. That would be so freaking awesome just to watch them burst out of nowhere.

Actually there are no swamps in HL2... Just radioactive water... A swamp would consist of... well... life. Possibly even trees, the swamp visited in "Man vs. Wild" would be a good reference. And would definately, set in the right time frame, provide a better zombie atmosphere than simply dirty, life draining water.

But I wont deny a WWII map would be cool, but only with day of defeat (or something)skins and guns. A bombed out city full of 40s soldier zombies sounds like fun.

Awesome. When the CSS zombie mods first started in late 2005, there was a zombies_normandy map that was a ton of fun.

The first day of outbreak. There are barricades with AI Military soldiers/police and civilians all running around with the infected running all around too (intense as fuck) like the part in 28 Weeks Later when the snipers are picking everyone off you cant tell whos who. (Maybe not.. lag much?)
Or maybe a suburb or house development you each start off in a different house and meet on the street to move to the police station or something. (Long walk!)

Ugh battle creek ugh. It was bad enough in Halo. Oh also I think we are all hoping that the escape mode for the airport is like a Boeing, because who doesn't want to fight zombies in a giant plane miles in the sky? Ooh! Tank on plane?!?!?!?!!!! Can you say ripping holes in the fuselage causing air pressure drops?! But anywho methinks escape on swamp/rural will be a boat or a boat thing that they use in the everglades, for get name but it has a big prop on the back. W/e. Argh if I don't get to run onto the tarmac and onto a 747 with hordes of zombies and hunters and tanks chasing after me, then taking a last stand on the top of the stairs to the plan, shooting at hundreds of zombies, then the stairway closing up, while hunters leap up onto the half closed staircase, shredding my friend apart while the stairs close so I have to jump off, get him back up, and jumping back onto the stairs as they close, flying away to freedom! Also, the tank would be able to hold the staircase from folding up/just ripping it off. That'd be great. Also, it would have to be around 8:30 at night during the fall/early winter, so it's dark out but not really dark, so the cool lights from the runways and stuff can cast glows. Damn, TRS will probably make you escape on a military plane, but that would not be as cool. Comon TRS, make it a passenger plane!

Saving Private Ryan/Medal of Honor seems to hav made lots of people like german bunkers...
You see Jay, the bunkers have become an iconic symbol for D-Day. Basicly they represented an impassable wall, that included mine fields, barbed wire, and pillboxes. And the reason people make Normandy maps, is to remeber and honor those men that we're able to pass that impassable wall and defeat our enemy. Well, that's why i think they do it.

Actually, I think it's more that they want swathes of enemies attacking them while they have god mode and infinite ammo.
I wanted to see NPC Cops and Military and maybe even Civilians since the beginning, but it's more of a mod thing. It would be cool. As for snipers on the roof tops, don't think Source is the engine to do that... UT3 maybe? (Source sucks with outdoor environments, it even sucks with indoor environments that look like outdoors ie. Tunnels)

Hardly, they turned one of the most serious battles ever into a game... That's not honoring whatsoever.
And in terms of zombies. I KNOW it's because they want swathes of enemies attacking an impenetrable fortress, it has nothing to do with D-Day other than it's a bunker on top of a hill.

Ah but EP2 expands on the typical source engine. Remember, Outdoor environments in EP2 were the main focus and I do believe they did a good job.
Not to mention L4D seems to have possibly a more tweaked version of Source Engine 2?
An awesome map would be in a 747...
30,000 feet in the air! yeah!

Meh, there were still framerate issues with outdoors in Ep2. Which is what im talking about. Mine were quite low, and I get higher FPS overall in more recent games like UT3, CoD4 etc.
Still, doubt Source can handle a city, or even a full 30 story building.
Shrubberyjsc
12-01-2007, 12:43 PM
a full 30 story building.
Shouldn't be a problem with regard to L4D. You can still get the feeling of going up a 30 story building, it's just different maps in the campaign.

Some campaign ideas:
Suburban America; fighting from house to house, back yard to back yard, someone's left their stereo on after the attack and you can hear the eerie crooning of the Carpenters singing Breaking Up Is Hard To Do. The aim of the campaign is to reach the abandoned and exceptionally creepy local Police Station and reach the heli pad on the roof.
Industrial Estate; the script writes itself for this one, Terminator style. Perhaps not with the bit where he lowers himself into the vat of molten metal, though; think T1. Goal of the campaign is to reach the car park at the front of the estate where you only have the abandoned cars for company and cover and the infected stream out of the various buildings ahead, over the walls from behind and leaping out from over trailers and tankers. Just be thankful none of the infected can wield a mini-gun, right? Right.
The Theme Park (similar to the carnival idea before); some of the lights are still on, the fuel-driven generators still chugging away on the dregs of their fuel-tanks. The survivors must make it through the trailers and trucks, through the big wheel and the coasters, past the coconut stands and, of course, the hall of mirrors and the horror house/ghost train ride... Oh yes. The piece de resistance could be close to the last stand where, at the front of the theme park spanning over the front gates, is a huge, grinning clown's face from the eyes of which many infected can spew and leap down to attack. Just don't bother to get your hand stamped when you leave and keep running to the top of the tallest ride in the park, where the chopper will pick you up after fending off the onslaught of infected climbing up from all sides and generally being bothersome.
Army Airbase; self explanatory...
Isolated Mansion and adjacent grounds; ripped off from Resi 1 but always a perfect scenario to work with.
San Fransisco; hills everywhere, Golden Gate bridge to cross (and yes, you must cross it), San Fransisco Bay (feel free to add in the docks idea, posted above) etc...
Hollywood Studios; the devs could have a lot of fun with this, inserting as many references to classic movies as they liked (with permission of course). Movies that really connect with the story of L4D. Like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Kindergarten Cop. End of the campaign? Hah! As if I need to elaborate... Right up by the Hollywood sign of course.
Las Vegas; clearly a favourite already, what better place to set your survivors in to battle for their lives through swathes of drone-like, savage and aggressive automatons that are hell-bent on ruining lives, than a casino? Of course, the setting wouldn't be quite as dramatic without some of the amazing lighting being on, but the darkened and vacant feel would also be quite surreal. Stick or twist? Escape from Las Vegas and make your way to the Grand Canyon to be saved, the last map of the campaign focusing purely on this location as its finale.
Olympic Village; a fictional location with every stadium and arena for every sport you can think of, Football stadium, swimming pool, ice rink (melted of course), golf course, race track, equestrian, tennis, body-bopping, fly-fishing, wrestling, boxing, national fart championships and of course karaoke (the Japanese have to win at something!)
Old Castle Ruins; I know, not too many of these in America but let's just allow for some artistic license. Express your desire to "do a Highlander" and get that kilt out. It'd have to be a pretty massive castle but you could span it over scary locations like countryside (at night, foggy and facking cold), murky forests and Glasgow. Introduce "A Kind Of Magic" as the soundtrack and we're cooking on gas. Pucka.
Garbage/Rubbish Tip, Scrap Yard; Possibly a little limited as to what you can do with this theme, but it should be included in another larger campaign maybe. Perhaps Chicago city, or some other relatively cool location. I don't know the place well but I'm thinking free-way overpasses, homeless areas with the barrels and fires and so on. Get through all this and into the city, there's a barricade with your name on it, where you can hold off at the last stand and await the chopper to liberate you (and, bizarrely, take you to yet another ludicrously dangerous location to fend for yourself).
And finally....
Milton Keynes; doubt any of you lot know this place but those that do will know what a hell hole it truly is. Perfect scenario for a post apocalyptic living-nightmare; if only it wasn't already one!
That's me about out of creative juice. I'm off to bed now, got to get up early tomorrow I have a flight booked for my vacation to Battle Creek.

As anyone played the zombies Board game?
Well I think that starting on the streets, and then have a chance to go into a school (or not), and later into militari station... and well other thing wich all have an helicopter or something at the end. So the map can be played in multiple way everytime.
But then it would take a lot more time to make the map, and people may want to make there own way all alone.
I think a wood around a lake (and you need to go to the small village wich is far away, and on the other side of the lake) with some small wooden house and maybe a randomly spawned little boat to make your way across the lake could be fun.
You need to find a house with a boat, and then you have sometime to breath while you're on the lake, and then you have to make your way to the village by following the road.
Of course zombie could run in the water when you are still not far enough.
Just some idea..

hmm... the ultimate obstacle... Normandy-style maps are the ultimate assault! You rush up the beach trying to avoid getting shot, and if you make it, it's awesome because of how hard it is! Also, the people protecting the beach have fun defending since defense things are always nice.
I'll go for honoring the dead and victorious. Then I'll go kill virtual nazis and honor my relaxation time.
